nbn Technology Choice FTTP Upgrade Quote $0 (Was $330) @ nbn Co

1632

$0 FTTP quotes are back. There are installation fees if you decide to go ahead with it.

Due to the intricacies involved in generating and processing quotes for complex premises, the Group Switch and Area Switch application forms are currently unavailable on our website. We are only accepting applications for some single premises at this time.

Please refer to our website in the future for updates as we continue to optimise the nbn™ Technology Choice Program.

The same amount governments 'steal' to pay for roads and all the other infrastructure of commerce.

Economics 101: 'common good' vs 'commodity'

  • 10k, for FTTN to FTTP, for my location.

    • Same, $10,809. Surely they are not getting many buyers at this price point?

  • Mine is HFC, is it supposed to be close to FTTP?

  • +2

Some more information regarding the planned "free" upgrade program: https://www.itnews.com.au/news/nbn-co-floats-250mbps-minimum…

    • +4

      Parts of FTTN only.

    • +1

Remember that notional bushfire fund they had

      • Have they spent the first dollar yet?

        • +2

          Notionally

          • @deme: Our thoughts are prayers count more - ScoMo

            • @hardya: So when they enrolled FTTN they all told us that it is temporally as they just run out money due perfect management of project. I am almost 1km from node, my speed and quality terrible and I can't even go to 100Mb as NBN checks confirmed that my max speed is 22Mb due line quality. Another node is 300m away but it is cross boundaries of postcode and I am not allowed to use it. What the f***?

Now seems we need to pay to upgrade it, even we all paying same price for FTTP. What is point?

  • +9

3k for FTTC for my house. The pit is just outside fence.

    • +5

Better than the $6,000+ FTTC quotes.

      • +1

        $7K for ground level apartment…

      • +2

It feels like an RNG price generator at this point

    • +6

lol I got the same, I asked they would do it for 1k - I'll dig the trench, no dice.

      • +2

Now that is an OG ozb move.

    • Same, FTTC $3k.

    • +2

Better than last time. Got reduced from 11k to 3k for FTTC

    • +1

My initial quote (12 months ago) was $9k verbally but they didn't charge me a quote fee, then $5k where they did charge a quote fee a few months ago… I pulled the trigger at that point but then they offered everybody refunds so I took one. Just pulled the trigger on $2,500 because might as well get that sweet sweet 1000mbps.

  • My quote dropped from $10436 to $9109, I checked it a couple months back. Still FTTC and right out front.

    • +3

Mine went from $14,000 to $16,394 HFC to FTTP :(

      • +1

I get the feeling they went from working them out individually to just giving out quotes of $16,000-$18000 for all HFC>FTTP.

  • +2

Just another food for thought - there is current a cease sale on all new HFC orders in Australia due to a lack of chips used in the NTD.

So be glad you have HFC (even if it's a bit garbage sometimes)

    • Have to laugh, had a perfectly working NTD but when I switched to Telstra a technician was ordered to my house in order to replace the working NTD with… Another NTD! Complete waste.

      • +3

Yeah for some reason a lot of NBN solutions for faults are to just replace NTDs without investigating

        • Or install a battery when you will never use it but tell you they can't reconnect you without it. (Waited 2 weeks to get one to reinstall my internet that got cut off by my ISP with no reason)

  • +6

$2795 FTTC to FTTP, valid for 24 hrs only. That's $100 cheaper than last quote.
Pit is at my front gate, replacing approx 15m telephone cable run to my house. Yeah nah.

    • +11

That is a low quote for FTTC-P.

    • +13

      Yeah nah.

That's a bargain. What were you expecting? There's people who would love to get that pricing. SMH.

      • +3

Yeah nah because I am wondering if I will really get much advantage from changing from C to P since the telephone cable run is so short to the house. Plus the G.Fast thing coming later.
Of course I will get the option to move above 100 Mbs but at a much higher cost per month.
Currently getting 99/38 with ping of 5ms most of the time with 4 users in the house - usually OK.
        Sydney suburbs.

    • +5

Hmmm… dunno what you're waiting for, it ain't gonna get any cheaper unfortunately. I got an original 'quote' of between 6K and 10K or 'maybe more'. Now it's down to $3,580 so I pulled the trigger. Same deal, my pit is right adjacent to my property so it's around 25m only. It's twice what I think is reasonable for the job, but what would I know hey?

    • +2

I don't know how they calculate this, mine is almost half your distance (~8m) but my quote is $2960.

      • My land is dead flat and pretty sandy so easy digging I guess. Plus I suspect the existing conduit could be reused.

        • You should be right. I don't have a conduit, my current HFC (non NBN) & phone cables are overhead cables.

          • +1

            @Sharp: 3k is cheap for HFC-FTTP.

            • +1

@Twix: I think you misread. Sharp probably has FTTC NBN, but is using a HFC non-NBN line for his current connection.

              • +1

                @wellzi: Yeah I did. Good pickup 👍

        • +2

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you went through with the $2795 upgrade and got FTTP, wouldn't you then be able to upgrade your plan with aussie broadband to 1000mb/s download unlimited for $149 a month?

          • +1

            @Hermanios: Yeah agree.
I am not certain I actually need the extra download speed unless the ping improves to allow faster gaming.
I already have 5 ms latency, which I believe to be pretty good.

  • +4

    $16,492…
Would probably be better getting 5G

    • +6

My house is obviously just a little bit trickier - $16,640.

      • +3

Ah ha! $16,401 here - because I just trimmed the rose bush that was encroaching over the box out the front of the house… that much easier / cheaper now.

        • +2

Clearly the guys that are getting obscenely high quotes need to trim their bush.

  • $ 12,739 HFC to FTTP

    • +1

$ 17,326 for me, HFC to FTTP
5 years ago I paid $3k to upgrade from ADSL2 to HFC (cabling to my unit)

  • +3

$ 9,660 in December and still $ 9,660 now. At least they're consistent.

  • +7

$2808 FTTC to FTTP and there's literally a conduit pipe that runs from the pit to my house, the nbn employee connected our nbn with a network cable via this pipe during install.

  • +3

    15k for me. I'll grab 10.

    • +4

      Are you Brodening the NBN?

    • +1

      That's good for 10gbizzlesp/s

  • +3

$ 18,006 inc. GST :-). They are asking to ——off

  • +1

13k….. lol.. only 2 corners and 500m away.

  • 25 metres from the node 11k.

  • $10, 481 Pemulwuy, Sydney.

As others have said, “Yeah, nah…”

  • +1

Do they actually expect people to pay the money to upgrade?

    • +3
      • +3

Sorry what is that telling me? People who have paid or people who've gotten quotes?

        • +2

People who have paid for and upgraded to FTTP.

  • +1

$ 15,238 for me. I need to sell my house to get this and quick, only valid for 24 hours.

    • Damn mine is only $2 cheaper $ 15,236 what a bargain

  • $3k for me to upgrade to FTTN.

However, those with FTTC might benefit from the next NBN rollout.

    https://www.nbnco.com.au/blog/the-nbn-project/evolving-the-n…

    • +1

Upgrades to FTTC have been promised for years. Still nothing.

    • +1

      $3K is pretty cheap!

      • yeah but then increase in monthly price from $70 p/m to $99 for nbn 250/25 or to 119 for nbn 1000/50

According to the terms and conditions, however, you’ll need to have been an Aussie Broadband member for “at least three months prior to the upgrade”. If you’re an existing customer, the deals you can get are: NBN 100/40 for $89/month, NBN 250/25 for $99/month, and NBN 1000/50 for $119/month.

        https://www.kotaku.com.au/2021/02/aussie-broadbands-nbn-250-…

        • +1

Not if you don't want to. You can stay on 50/20 with FTTP.

          • @Twix: What's the upside in paying $3k to stay at 50Mbps?

Galvanic isolation? Good if you're concerned about lightning I guess.

            • @abb: If you keep having FTTC dropouts, better stability with FTTP, 1 ISP for home and 1 ISP for work purposes and the ability to change to any speed you want for a month or a day. With Launtel you can stay on 50/20 and change to 1000/50 or 500/200 for a day if you wanted to.

    • +2

$3k is very cheap for FTTN to FTTP.

  • +6

    $28k for me

Wonder if they're willing to take gift cards

    • It sucks aye. Mine was 26k. What a joke.

  • +4

$2613 FTTC-FTTP, same as last time

    • Correct me if I am wrong, but if you went through with the $2613upgrade and got FTTP, wouldn't you then be able to upgrade your plan with aussie broadband to 1000mb/s download unlimited for $149 a month?

  • $10k FTTN to FTTP, CCNSW

  • $163XX, so close to the high score.

    Oh well, top 5 easily.

  • +3

$20,405 inc GST for me. Madness
FTTN currently, barely get 50meg on a good day, depending on the wind direction.

    • +8

Bury your modem in a deep hole, the data flows better downhill as well as downwind. Upload speeds will suffer though.

  • +6

Was $660 for the pleasure of getting a quote to upgrade to FTTP when NBN originally came out. Imagine my joy when I received a $10k+ quote after paying $660.

    • +7

NBN should offer refunds. In my dreams.

    • +1

      F

  • Only $18,992! Bargain!

  • +4

All these sad comments and here I had FTTP for like last 10 years.

    • +2

      Living the dream.

    • +1

      In Tasmania or WA?

    • +8

Ok Malcolm, no need to boast.

  • I wonder how many people will take this up now that there are HFC modem supply issues?

Nice "coincidence" that this came back online so close after they announced HFC cease sale, no?

  • +1

All these 2k quotes make me envious. Why is it $19,000 when i can literally see the node from my house…

    • The parts are cheap. Labour costs are the problem.
