I found this on whirlpool.

Existing customers use https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/lp/freakinfast/customer

100/20 $89/month (Was $99)
100/40 $89/month (Was $109)
250/25 $99/month (Was $129)
1000/50 $119/month (Was $149)

Due to the recent HFC technology shortages and the potential demand on our call centre, we feel it is important to manage demand and as such, we have decided to put our existing customer Focus on Fast promotions on hold.

If customers decided to upgrade their plans now via MyAussie, the system is ready and will apply the promotion (provided the service is eligible), but we will be holding off our communications of Focus on Fast to existing customers until later this week.

Plans not available at all premises. Only redeemable with an existing active Aussie Broadband nbn™ service. Current nbn™ plan must be held for a minimum of 3-months prior to the upgrade to be eligible to receive the discount.

Customers are eligible to upgrade to any supported plan above/faster than their existing active plan

Update. Thanks to kain0rer

They've scrapped the need for being on the same plan for 3 months, it's now as long as you haven't been on the same plan you're upgrading to in the last 3 months.

        Thanks !

  • +2

I dont see the discount noted anywhere or how to access it.

  • Excludes Opticomm services. >:(

    • +4

It isn't that it is excluded. Opticomm is a private network, an alternative to the nbn.

  • I think this is only for people coming from <100mbps to 100mbps+

So if you're on 100mbps+ then no discount for you.

Unfortunate that we on 1gbps could have saved $180!

    • In the WP Thread, the rep said that you would have to change to a lower tier for 3 months to become eligible for the Focus on Fast pricing for the remaining 3 months.

    • +1

That's not what the terms and conditions say, it just says "Customers are eligible to upgrade to any supported plan above/faster than their existing active plan".

So as long as you're upgrading at least one step it should be available.

Still means no luck for those already on the 1000mbps plans though…

      • +5

So existing long term customers who have been supporting ABB the most, on their highest plans, are being shafted. I was happy with ABB until today, but am now very tempted to port away to Superloop.

        • +1

Same. I'm paying for 100/40, which is the fastest my piece of shit HFC POI will support. I would happily upgrade and pay for the 1000Mbps plans, but there is no way for me to access this pricing. Shafting your high-value customers seems like a pretty crappy way to do business. I have had nothing but good things to say about ABB up to now, but this is pretty shit.

  • +5

How do you change it, still showing $99 for 100/20 on the abb portal.

  • +14

As much as I like ABB, can't really justify the premium price anymore. Their recent price hikes forced me to change to Superloop 100/20 $75/month and the service is identical.

  • +2

"If customers decided to upgrade their plans now via MyAussie, the system is ready and will apply the promotion (provided the service is eligible)"
To me that implies that it won't show the promotion but you will get the discount. That said, I probably won't be trying it myself until I get confirmation.

    • "That said, I probably won't be trying it myself until I get confirmation."

      ditto!

      • +11

I called them. I was told the system won't be ready until 11th Feb and if I manually changed my 100 speed plan to 250 speed via the ABB Portal, I'd be charged the diff in plan cost. Not a very good implementation of this offer I'd have thought.

    • How do you actually apply for it as an existing customer? I dont see a place to enter a promo code on their portal.

  • "Promotional discount reflected in monthly invoice following plan change."

So it'll show the full plan cost and then they'll deduct the offer price difference each month?

Edit, confirmed from ABB on Whirlpool forums.

"The MyAussie Portal will still show the normal pricing, as per the T&C's of the promotion, the discount will appear on your first month's invoice after the plan change is completed."

    • +1

Be careful posting this as it doesn't appear to be correct without context around your current plan.

  • Is this for HFC Customers only?

I'm on FTTN, don't see no upgrade option to these prices

    • Want to ask the same HFC only?

    • I am on FTTC (HFC) and do not see the upgrade option.

    • +3

I was just on the phone to ABB, this offer service is only available to existing "eligible FTTP and HFC customers" with at least 3 months of ABB service under their belt. Well that's according to the bloke I spoke with.

      • Thought so. FTTN always misses out on everything :P`

        • +2

FTTN always misses out on everything :P`

          Yeah, price and speed.

          • @superforever: I must admit. I get very good speeds on my 100/20 connection

Just did a speed test using my iPhone on 5ghz wifi and got 101Mbps download zipped :|

            • @Danstar: I can only get 85Mbps so I downgraded it to 75Mbps to save $10

              • @superforever: Was trying to think why I wrote 'zipped' last night.

I worked it out, was meant to write 'speed'

                • @Danstar: Same here, sometime my brain think of something but my hand type a difference thing XD

      • -1

Nothing in the T&Cs about FTTP and HFC only.

        • It's in the very first line.

Aussie Broadband are offering a promotion to eligible existing customers…

and I think this might also cover it,

Not all speed tiers are available to all customers – click here to check
          eligibility

          • +1

@Flyerone: I called up and they cleared it up.

            1. At least 3 months.
            2. FTTN, FTTB, FTTC can get the 100/20 or 100/40 discount if your service is capable of delivering it and upgrading from any speed below than what you are currently on. 75/20 is not included. If you are already on 100/20 or 100/40 no discount for you.
            3. FTTP and HFC can get the 100/20, 100/40, 250/25 and 1000/50 discount if you are upgrading from any speed below than what your currently on. 75/20 is not included.
            • @Twix:

If you are already on 100/20 or 100/40 no discount for you.

              :( Lame.
Might move back to superloop, or even give Kogan a try

              • @Danstar: Go to SL. Kogan is Vodafone.

    • It will probably be for all technologies but will be limited on what speeds your connection can reach e.g. FTTN/B/C upto 100/40, HFC/FTTP upto 1Gbps. Though it doesn't appear the promotion is live which is why the prices aren't showing yet.

  • +1

Great news, but pretty weird since it's only been 4 months since they increased prices: https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/blog/price-increase-annou…

  • +1

Quoting Adam from ABB on whirlpool
"The MyAussie Portal will still show the normal pricing, as per the T&C's of the promotion, the discount will appear on your first month's invoice after the plan change is completed."

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3j5znlq9?p=29#r562

    • Check that first bill to make sure the charging actually reduces as offered here since it doesn't show correctly on the portal (it should have been changed IMO).

Had a similar not shown on an offer in the past and I had to call after that first bill as the reduction was NOT applied.

  • From whirlpool forums.

You will need to have been on your current speed tier for 3 months before you are eligible for any Focus on Fast promotions as a current customer. However, be assured that when you reach that 3 month point, we will contact you to advise you what options you have available to upgrade.

    • I have been on an eligible plan for over 12 months. When I called them, they said wait for the email & don't manually change plans before 11th Feb or I would get charged the diff in plan cost.

    • -1

Was with them for over 4 years and they offered nothing, I asked them if they will provide any promotions or discounts before I port.

      The answer was no, Goodbye.

      Was on the 100/40 Plan.

    • I was on the 100/40 plan, before they automatically downgraded me to 100/20 when the whole NBN price increase bs happened. Then I had to upgrade to the 100/40 plan again which was in the last three months so I'm not eligible?

      Well done.

  • +1

And yet TPG and other RSP's offer the 100/20 products for under $80 a month. Still better deals out there (maybe excluding the 1000/50).

    • +4

Yeah not worth it, service has gone downhill

    • +10

Rather use dialup 56kbps than have to deal with TPG ever again.
What you save in monthly costs you pay for in poor quality service and poor customer support.

      • +2

Yeah you pray you never have to use them.

    • +4

TPG sucks ass though and they under provision for their services.

  • +4

So people already on 100+ plans dont get anything? seriously?

    • +1

Very easy to change to a different RSP.

      • I really want to support them as i think they did bring forward a good ethos of customer support and fast speeds but it is disappointing that the existing customers and higher end customers always miss out on deals :(.

        • +6

If you are unaware, this deal is a result of the NBN Co's "Focus on Fast" promotion and ABB only gets the rebates when people upgrade to the 100+ plans.

So it isn't really ABB leaving you out in this particular case, at least.

    • i will try to call them, if they don't give me the discount, bye bye aussie

      • I did call. No go on any discount.

        • what speed are you on?

          • @Geoff-bargain: 1000/50.

            • @PlagueistheCheap: I moved to Launtel a few months ago and had a fantastic experience thus far. 1000/50 (most of the time, unless I decide to pause it, or move to 100/40 etc)

        • Yeah, I will never understand this type of business methodology, but hey, whatever works [or doesn't]??

    • Haven't read the terms and conditions but I think you still qualify if you upgrade to a higher speed from one of the 100+ speeds.

      • I have 2 ABB accounts my house and my parents. Both are at 100Mb/40. And My place is FTTN and my parents place is FTTC. So sadly i dont think i can go above the speed i am on :(

    • T&Cs say you just have to upgrade, so 100 to 250 (for example) should be eligible

  • Opticomm services not included :( rip

  • +1

lols… on hold to superloop to cancel my existing service. Caller number 22 to the disconnections queue option…..

    • "Active plan must be held for a minimum of 3-months prior to the upgrade to be eligible to receive the promotional discount"

Yeah you may want hold off on that.

Superloop will very likely bring their own deal in soon.

    • Lols… thinking they have a dedicated team to process disconnections rather than just their first level support team doing them

      • +1

I got some dude in Adelaide… definitely a dinkum Aussie. They may have an Australian based retentions team?

When I went to sign up to Aussie as a new customer using the post link the discount could only be applied to the 100/40 plan, that was the only eligible plan shown in the address check in that page.

I could pick the 1000/50 in the next screen but the code is invalid for that tier for me (I’m FTTP).

Ended up just signing back up to Superloop 1000/50 for $129 under my wife’s name (different last name). Order went through and discount applied with no issue.

I have used 1000/50 tier previously for both Aussie and Superloop and the speeds and experience for me is pretty much identical.

Never needed support as I am FTTP and it just always works. I might value the support if I was stuck with FTTN??

The only time I have ever needed to ring either company is to cancel.

  • how easy is it to change to someone else? hard enough to get it all working in the first place.

    • Signup, wait until the new ISP says your online, cancel Aussie BB.

Sometimes router configuration changes are needed depending on the ISP you are changing to.

      • +1

You may need to give the current 1-month notice, so if you did it that way, you will most likely be paying double for that month?

        • Yeah depends on the ISP cancellation terms.

          • +1

@Twix: I would think most, if not all, would have this as part of their T's & C's due to this, but yeah, would be wise to check with your ISP first

  • +6

The reviews for Superloop Vs Aussie Broadband are a concern. A common complaint is waiting hours to get through to them on the phone. Cheaper is not always better…..getting through in a timely manner when you need to reach them is more important for me and worth paying extra for.

Superloop's 5 star reviews are nearly equal to their 1 star reviews - https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/superloop

Aussie Broadband has much better feedback in comparison - https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/aussie-broadband-p…

    • +8

Seriously, how many times are you going to call an internet provider, and is this one call a year worth the extra $120+ a year to pay for…

      • +4

Depends on your MTM lottery outcome.

      • +5

Depends how good or bad your NBN is.

      • +4

Or you can know… people can make their own mind about what they prefer - price or customer service

      • +4

It really depends mate… in my case it doesnt make sense and i've had to call TPG maybe a handful of times at the MOST in the last 20 years i've used them (i'm in IT so i tend to sort my own sh*t out..lol)… however for my mum i would recommend to pay the extra because if she has had NBN issues which she has had to deal with TPG (not pretty at all) then it's worth the extra to get the CS ….

      • +2

I called my ISP 3 times this year so far.
Dunno about Superloop, but TPG support (from past experience) was annoying. I had to go nuclear (TIO).

      • just this week, I called around 4 times since my speed was not in full force

      • Would you care to explain why you are paying an extra $11.4 a year for your Superloop plan?

      • Stayed with Superloop for 6 months, planning to do the bi annual swap. But had daily dropout issues for at least a month and drop out once every other month. Calling them was a pain in the butt and things never got resolved. Went back to ABB and no issues, if there is a dropout the call center is good and I haven't had an issue for the last 6 months. That being said I was going to do my bi-annual switch but now my missus won't let me swap back for the savings.

      • Had to call them approx 5 times myself (VOIP issues in that number) so want the quick response personally. Perturbing that neither have 24 hour call centres.

    • -1

How often do people contact phone support though? Pretty sure I can count on one hand the number of times I've ever needed to call my ISP, and half of those have been to cancel when moving to a different provider.

Doesn't offset the expensive prices IMO.

      • +1

You have good NBN then. Personally, I dislike cable based technology. I had to call at least once a year since moving to NBN (generally 3 times+). Also, family members get quite unhappy with the outages.

NBN - less choices on technology type.

      • +1

If you are on FTTN it's like every 2 months.

    • I switched from ABB to Superloop. My FTTN is stable and max sync is 130/50. I haven't had any issues with Superloop. Speeds are the same and it doesn't go down. I haven't had to call their helpdesk. If you have a stable connection, I'd recommend switching. Saves a fair bit a month.

  • +4

Maybe they should have run with this 5 months ago and a hell of a lot of us wouldn't have ported when they stitched us up for an extra $25 a month…

    • This offer is NBNs doing.

      • Yeah and ABB is still one of the most expensive out there

        • +3

They always have been. If you want Dodo pricing go elsewhere.

  • i moved onto their 250/25 plan as a promo a cpl months ago for 6months at 109 hmmm i need to chat to support or just finally switch to superloop

    • They won't move you to the cheaper plan (they won't get anything out of NBN) The only way is going to another RSP.

      • +1

What Gilby said or change to 1000/50.

        • +1

yea was thinking that cheers :)

        • +1

moved to the 1000/50 once thats up i will probably move over to superloop

        • "….1000/50", if only that was available for all HFC users!

          • @havebeerbelywillsumo: Ultrafast = 1000/50.

On Tuesday, NBN said by the end of November, it would have over 25% of its HFC footprint able to get an ultrafast plan.

"The company expects that by June 2021 over two-thirds of premises in the HFC network footprint will be able to order NBN ultrafast broadband, and it forecasts that by the end of 2021 nearly the entire HFC network footprint should be able to order NBN ultrafast broadband," it said.

NBN jacks up 750Mbps coverage to 'nearly' all HFC premises by end of 2021

    • Just tried the same thing. ABB support said they won't change the plan. Moving to Superloop.

  • Strange,

I've been on the 1000/40 plan for 6 months. Nothing showing in the MyAussie portal. Still showing $149. Might be best to just give them a call.
