You are a very brave man if you order a CPU off AliExpress

      • +2

I've bought 3 CPUs from AliExpress in the past 6 months and they worked just fine. Plus a few mouses, soldering iron kit, heaps of cables, the list goes on. Everything I ordered arrived just takes a little longer.
AliExpress is great you should give it a go before you bash it.

I have given it a go, if you need support you don't get it. I have countless items come broken or faulty and it either takes months of arguing to get a partial refund or they give you nothing at all. Aliexpress refused to make the seller give me a full refund for a faulty screen I bought for a phone because I still got to keep the screen.

Sorry but 3 CPUs in just 6 months is a pretty big red flag, CPU meant to last years, just so you know.

            @kaitoivan: Or you know… multiple computers 😉

      • I bought a ryzen 5 3600. They gave me a tracking code which ended up in a different city under a differetn name. I am never buying anything again from Ali take my money and give me nothing in return express. tried them once never again

bought 5800x for $601+$17 postage fee on taobao

  • Just wondering.

Would the older 1600AF be an option for $185 vs the 3600 or is it too old now to be relevant?

Save a little more and go for a 10400F when it goes on sale for ~$200

We're not talking about 3600 vs 10400 here.

All those reviews were done before Intel reduced the price of the 10400 around december. The 10400 and 3600 were about the same price then.

2666mhz on the 10400 is behind by about 5% on some games, this will be cheaper than a 3600 aswell. The I5 overtakes the 3600 when you spend on a Z board to overclock the ram to 3200+mhz. This is why almost all reviews shun the 10400, because you had to spend ~$200+ on a Z mobo when the 3600 was happy with a basic b450 as low as $130.

NOW you can get a 10400 @ 2666 ram and bare bottom mobo for about $300 and that would just be behind or as fast on games with a 3600 combo.

10400 is on the level of 3600, the 1600af is not, it's more like a 2600. For $15-25 more 10400 would be a better buy.

@krisspy: the video recommends not using 2666 RAM at all as it slows it performance too much.

@sillyhead as for cheap gaming, imo it's always best to save a little longer and spend that extra on mid-range GPUs and get a decent CPU with some performance and hopefully some extended lifetime from it.

example: I had my Intel it-2500K CPU for 8 years, every year I spent between $200-$300 to upgrade RAM, SSD or most of all GPUs to keep it relevant for 1080p gaming. Last upgrade 2 years ago was to an RTX 2060 (upgraded from a GTX 1060 6GB).. then I built a totally new AMD 3700X based system.. used the RTX 2060 until I bought an RTX 3070 recently and a 1440p monitor.

The Intel 10400 does beat the 1600AF ( https://youtu.be/6RuMzhuNQKk ) but make sure you go 3200 RAM and be aware if you go Intel you will be locked into only the 10 series CPUs, you most likely won't be able to upgrade to a newer CPU in 3-4 years time withouth buying a new motherboard which supports it. I was looking at upgrading my i5-2500K for years.. but the combined cost of a new CPU, new motherboard and then new DDR4 RAM was outside my budget, until the motherboard died and then I found it almost impossible to find a replacement motherboard for my system.. which is why when I had a decent tax return I decided it was time for a newer PC, so I went AMD because I could be fairly certain I'd get another few generations of CPU support with the same motherboard.

It's not actually old. 1600 AF is based off the 2600 platform. Still relevant but for under $200 the 10400F is a better buy I think.

seems like the price has jumped back up to $319
