[SA] Kebabs $6 (Normally $9) @ House of Doner Kebab (Ottoway)

1310

Hey all,

First time I've decided to post, please go easy :) just opened a kebab store in Adelaide a few months ago and for the month of February this year we're selling doner and chicken kebabs for $6. They're usually $9. I'm pretty sure this is the cheapest kebab in Australia at the moment(happy to be told otherwise)

Let me know if you think its a deal or not. I've linked our Facebook pages which contains address, open times and location.

Open Monday to Saturday between 10:30am and 5:30pm for now.

149 Grand Junction Rd Ottoway, SA, Australia 5013

Just wanna wish you all the best on your new business venture :)

    • Thank you :)

  • Any Vegetarian option ?

    • +7

We do make Falafel wraps but they're not on special unfortunately as we buy the Falafel from another shop. The doner and chicken kebabs are made in house which is why we are able to price them really low when doing specials ( margins aren't the best, but given its a new shop we want as many people to try the product).

I've had mad cravings for a döner since coming back from Vienna - going to have to visit to see if you do it justice!

    • +3

They're made a bit differently there, I visited in 2019 and really enjoyed eating kebabs there myself haha. Let me know what you think of ours :)

  • What are your opening hours?

    • +1

Hi Matt, open Monday to Saturday between 10:30am and 5:30pm for now. Thanks

Good luck with the new venture. Suzan did an awesome kebab and I was crushed to see her move on but it’s great that you have moved in there. Will be there for sure.

    • Thank you :)

  • Was it something else similar before ? I'm sure I went some time ago.

    • apparently "under new management"?

      • +1

Correct! New owners. The old kebabs made here were from kangaroo meat and sweet and sour chicken. So a bit different from a traditional doner kebab. We make ours very different so if you haven't please come and give it a go :)

    • +6

Yes, in 1980 that was true.
Doner Kebab is quite different from Yiros if that's what you're referring to. Now you'll find Kebab shops across Adelaide.

      • +2

        that's a burrito /s

      • Are you actually in SA? I've litterally only ever heard Victorians call these things 'Doner Kebabs' I didn't even know those words until a few weeks ago when I visited VIC

    • +4

Next you'll be complaining that Macedonia isn't Macedonia

      • +1

        Tell me more.

    • Clearly Victorians downvoting you. This man speaks the truth, literally logged in just to say the same thing! South Australians say Yiros!

  • +12

I'm not even in SA, but I will always upvote $6 kebabs.

      • +1

        is this still there

        • +1

An unfortunate google image lol… still waiting on Google's account verification post card so I can change the steet view angle

  • +1

I'll up vote this if you open this next store in North Brisbane

    • they have 30 days then

    • +1

Haha if I could only duplicate myself.

  • I'm seeking a filthy rich Kebab donor.

    • Come on past :) not sure if it'll be filthy but I think youll still enjoy it ;)

  • HA!! I turn right at the Addison Rd corner every night. Definitely going to try a Kebab. Was addicted to them when I lived in Germany :D

    • See you soon !

Great to hear, and all the best to your new business.
The fact I'll comment on this is the pre stacked frozen rods. I mean every all kebab shop uses them nowdays and its bloody disgusting.

I remember you bloody champion of all kebabs, middle of parra mall in his little hut in the 90s, haven't had one as good since then, and by now it's a myth.

    • +1

      Thank you :)

      • Have you ever considered stacking your own meat and charging more?
Genuine question. We had a new kebab shop open near us and they are making a killing! Super popular and always have customers/delivers.
Ive had it couple of times and its rather bad.
There needs to be a traditional kebab shop for hang over connoisseurs as myself.

        • +2

Dad is actually the producer of the meat! Right now it's more about customers tasting our kebabs as we beleive they're of the best quality you can find in Adelaide. The price is currently a promotion for February this year :) youre def thinking about it the right way though haha

          • +1

@Houseofdonerkebab: That is awesome! Would love to try your babs and hopefully some hand made buli, could eat it by a ton!

Sadly I'm in Brisbane and have no ties to Adelaide, which means I won't make it there until I drive my camper van in my retirement.
All the best in your venture! Kebab love ❤❤❤

  • Best of luck in your new business venture.
Will make sure to pop in when around.

  • Damn too far from work.. can you open one in the city :D

    • +1

      Maybe in the future! :)

Do you have purple cabbage ? I guess Doner Kebab means Turkish / German version of kebab with triangle bread ?

    • +1

Hi PAPower, unfortunately we don't have purple cabbage or triangle bread. I could probably work out the purple cabbage if you message me on fb and tell me what day you're planning on coming in :) thanks!

Hey House! Came in today, wraps were super tasty, especially the chicken! Only downside, took 40 minutes to fill my order of 2 kebabs :(

    • Sorry to hear about the wait :( we didn't realise how busy it was going to be after this post and definitely understaffed. We will get better :) appreciate the feedback.

      • Yeah I feel sorry for the lady, doing both register and cooking. Luckily I came in when it’s not that peak.

        • Tuesday hasn't been as busy haha. Lesson learnt when ozbargaining !

Hey good luck with new business although technically we call them a yiros in Adelaide

    • Thank you :) a gyros is slightly different ;) come and try a doner kebab!

  • Do they come with tabbouleh? I've noticed a lot of kebab/yiros places don't even have tabouli these days or charge extra for it. Great price, btw. I've seen some kebab shops charging upwards of $15 for a kebab then charge extra for tabbouleh.

    • Hi Crys, unfortunately we're only doing lettuce tomatoes and onions to keep it simple. We offer cheese at an extra cost and that's about it :) sauces are also optional. Agree - kebabs in Adelaide are super pricey elsewhere, our normal price is still only $9 :)

      • Any reason why a lot of kebab shops no longer have tabbouleh? To me it has always been a key ingredient that makes a kebab/yiros great. Is it one of those things where customers never wanted it or no demand?

  • I can vouch for the quality of these guys.

I used to work for old management when these guys used to supply the meat, and it was heaps tastier than the stuff they ended up doing once old management transitioned to their own meat.

I know these guys will be super successful as they're incredibly dedicated quality workers.

You won't be missing out by deciding to go and try one of these kababs.

    • Thanks Jaydn, you feedback means a lot !

  • Just had a Lamb Kebab from here.
OMFG!!!! Quite simply the best Kebab I have ever had. Lamb was AMAZING.

Will definitely be going back regularly.

If your in the area give them a try and you'll not be disappointed.

    • Thanks Todes :) I'm glad you enjoyed it !! See you next time :p

  • looks good. I suggest putting copy of menu on facebook or picture showing prices for others such as AB packs, chippies. so that workplaces nearby can buy lunch. we do that with near by local eateries all the time.

    • Done. Great suggestion, thank you :)

  • Did the 60 kilometres round (dedicated Ozb looking to save a few $ 🤣 but really looking for a good doner kebab/yiros) and this definitely passes the taste test. Full of meat (I only buy lamb), simple salad (thankfully - a good kebab does not need sauces and other muck to make it tasty). I was able to warm the extra kebabs in the air fryer and to my surprise, they came out wonderfully, bread and all (yes better fresh but this was a good substitute). Good luck with your venture, I will surely return.

    • Haha I think you've travelled more than any other customer! I'm impressed lol. Im glad you enjoyed it :) see you next time

  • Tried the Kebab today. It was really delicious and the serving is large as well.

    • Awesome to hear :) glad you enjoyed it
