This would be so tempting if the new version wasn't such a dramatic, huge improvement.

    • Summary of the huge improvements? I’m on the fence.

      • +13

The 1/1.7" image sensor of the Pocket 2 trumps the Osmo Pocket's 1/2.3” CMOS sensor.

As for the lens, the Pocket 2 has a 93° FOV, 20mm focal length - ideal for making cinematic vlogs and videos - and an aperture of f1/8 for low-light shooting.

In comparison, the Osmo Pocket has an 80° FOV, f/2.0 aperture and a format equivalent 26mm focal length.

The latest version in the series also has a superior and updated ISO range, spanning 100-6400 for photo and video. The Osmo Pocket is limited to 100-3200 (photo), and 100-3200 (video).

Using the Pocket 2, capture 16MP or 64MP images with high-resolution mode, compared to the 12MP image capture on the original Pocket.

This is the highest-resolution currently available on the market for this camera size.

Both gimbals can shoot video in 4K/60fps at 100Mbps, but the Pocket 2 features an upgraded performance with HDR Video and Hybrid AF 2.0.

HDR Video will make your videos pop with vivid colours, while the revamped autofocus increases speed and accuracy, thanks to Hybrid 2.0 AF's blend of phase and contrast.

The Pocket 2 also benefits from a new zoom feature; 8x zoom in 64MP photo mode, and 4x lossless zoom in 16MP/1080p.

Pocket 2 has undergone an upgrade to address such issues, with vastly improved audio functions such as DJI Matrix Stereo, Directional Audio, Sound Tracking, Audio Zoom and Wind Noise Reduction.

        • Alright, I am sold on the f.18 aperture and ISO range. Any good deals on the creator combo? ;)

          • @moo: Creator combo is $400+ more. See my comment below, I don’t think it’s worth it unless you’re a professional blogger.

@plasmapuff: or you shoot in low light.

Worth it 100 fold if you enjoy night or dusk recording.

Car shows, night walks, family trips; all the reasons I can see myself using a "pocket" camera, all have very real potential for night shots.

Also, the bigger sensor really does make it acceptable for stills; the 1 was "passable" if you intended to crop or blow it up, the 2 is genuinely a good stills camera too.
A few bloom effects, but overall "good".

        • I have the original and think it’s fine for what it is especially at this price.

Yes a wider FOV would be nice but I’m using it on a selfie stick most of the time so it doesn’t matter.

I never really use it for stills when I have my full frame with me…

Solid video camera with excellent stability and portability.

          • @plasmapuff: Can't you get a lens for better POV on the 1?

Also the 2 has a proper joystick attachment.

Comparing this to FIMI Palm ($250) https://www.amazon.com.au/Stabilizer-Bluetooth-Connection-Mi… I think is more appropriate

    • Yes, and I actually prefer the palm to the dji 1.
It's just a more useful config all around imo.

but most of the chatter here isn't about a "which is better" in the traditional sense; it's about "is $300 worth it" when for $490, you can get a vastly improved model.

      • Have you by chance been able to find an underwater rig for the FIMI?

        • Never looked; that's what my osmo action is for.

Though, if you're going to mute the sound, I've seen some oddly effective shallow dives using a Ziploc bag semi-inflated.

          • @MasterScythe: If you had to choose Osmo action or the FIMI as a general use video camera, which one?

            • @Nalar: Depends if small size is a priority.

A hohem isteady pro gimbal + osmo action, is a MUCH more capable combo.

You can turn rocksteady off at night, and just use the gimbal to prevent ghosting; and use it without (or with) the gimbal, with rocksteady on during the day.

Catch is; it's significantly bigger than these pocket aio gimbal cameras.

So; depends on your needs I guess.

I think the Osmo is clearer personally, and being able to take shots like, putting it in your cup, pouring your juice, and drinking from above make for some cool cinematic shots.

Horses for courses I'm afraid, needs vary :)

              • @MasterScythe: Thanks for the insight, I think the ability to add Gimbal later is better than being unable to take it snorkeling/diving
