BCF are having a 48-hour flash sale, and this looks like the pick. It's a single swag, but it's pretty big. The mattress is air+foam and the outer cover can be turned into an awning with the supplied poles.

My local BCF had no stock. Delivery for one was $20, but for four was $90. Macpac price matched over the phone and I went and collected them. I'm happy with the quality just by looking at it, especially at that price.

The only design downside I can see is that you can't fully open up the other side for lots of cross-body ventilation. There is an air escape on the left, but it's not big.

Is a tent for one person?

  • +3

IMO this looks like someone wanted a tent and a swag but at the end got neither.

    (Maybe it's better than both?)

    • yeah I prefer a swag that I can sit up in like a Darche Dirty Dee

I have single swag, 4 man tent and recently got a roof top tent and I can't find any advantages of the swag over tent unless I am doing winter camping. What's the general motivation?

$200 is a good price for that equipment OP, enjoy your new gear 👍

Motivation is getting four teenagers out of the caravan (edit: while taking up less campsite space than individual tents)

      • Interesting

What's the advantage of the swag when winter camping?

I'm tempted to get a swag for roadtrips with the missus - just unroll, put a pole in and sleep in a truck stop on the side of the road. Hopefully avoiding and deliverance type hillbillies.

The sheer size of a rolled up double swag is ludicrous though, it takes up around half a ute tray!

      • Since there is less air inside of the swag over tent, you loose less heat. (at least what I believe lol) and also canvas gives better insulation than nylon plastic so these are my reasons to believe swag is better for winter. Of course sleeping bags more important but I only have medium level sleeping bag.

I agree with you double swags are huge unless you putting on roof rack you loose huge volume of your cargo. Single swag is fine but double too big.

Just saw on bottom of website it has got product recalled sign …just passing the info

    • That recall is for another product

    • For flares?

      • +2

They went out of fashion 40 years ago, so yes, if anyone's still buying them, they should be recalled.

  • Been looking at getting a swag for a while and this is cheap as and massive fan of the additional accessories. ty

  • Anyone know the actual dimensions? The site is unclear

    • yeah looks like a 900? Also is the mattress 80mm?

    • +2

It's rough because a kid is asleep in it right now, but the mattress is approx 2150x850, and at it's widest and longest it is maybe 2800x1300

      Edit:

The specs say "Size (65+215) x 130/90 x 80/45 CM". From my measurements I take that to be:
215: the length of the mattress / sleeping compartment
65: the length of the floor mat at the head
      (65+215): the overall length
80/45: perhaps the width of the mattress (80) and the width of the side mat (45)
130/90: dunno, perhaps the height at the max and the height at the foot?

      • Awesome. Thanks for that. I'm 196cm so wanted to check before buying. I've got a kings big daddy deluxe and it's just too big in the bag.

Edit: yea the specs make sense now. It was just a weird format.

        • I'm 194cm and fit in it no problem

1 swag to my address $20
2 swags to same address $90

    and they call it logistics;)

  • No stock at bcf north Ipswich but they have some in the warehouse and ordered me one. They'll probably be oos but worth a try.

  • Does anybody know if this a free standing swag or you have to have it tied down on either side??

    • +1

There are guy ropes at the head and feet, and you need them; there's no spreader pole. The poles for the annexes need guy ropes and pegged too

      • Free-standing Spreader pole is where it's at for swags, $200 will get you close to the adventure kings version which seems to the pick at that price range.

  • Bought one today!! Very good quality swag, comes with 4wd mat too.

Definitely not free standing. Took me 1.5 hours to put up the first time to season it.

    • Whaat!!! 1.5 hrs??? Were you driving the pegs in with a chopstick;) I thought the main point of a swag was the minimal setup time?

      • +1

First time doing it.. will only take me 30 mins next time.

There are quite a few poles with this swag!
