They have to pay me to install their products.

      Agree - hero to zero.

I am old enough to remember when Norton was an essential for every PC user and then declined into useless bloat ware. I do not understand why they are still in business..

Can I ask what you would recommend instead? Thanks

          Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, EMSISoft

I can honestly say, I haven't run any product like this for many years.

These products have very much become digital snakeoil over the years… they've bundled it full of completely unrelated bloatware - registry cleaners, installer cleaners, backup (often for an extra storage fee) - to distract you from the fact that you're getting very little virus/malware protection.

If you're running windows & let it install updates, then windows defender is more than enough.

The only additional protection that I really apply is ad and script blockers in my browser.

          • @bobbieb: Totally agree. Windows defender is all I run with. If I'm surfing dodgy waves I'll run it in a VM.

That was when Norton was a product coded and developed by Peter Norton. His first "Norton Utilities" introduced a magic tool Microsoft thought no-one would ever need - undelete. Things just got better from there, until 1990 when Symantec bought it and the wheels started to fall off.

  • lol… Norton

  • A few years ago Norton introduced region locking to their products so they could charge more here.

Generally Norton Products from US Amazon will not activate in Australia. I have had this before and had my purchase refunded.

There is this small comment from a Norton rep in Q&A "Yes, you can definitely purchase this Norton 360 subscription if you are located inside United States"

There are Global keys available at low cost on eBay.

Nortons is probably not needed for most tech savvy people with Microsoft's incuded offerings.

But I still run it on my elderly parents PC's and it has stopped them from downloading and running a bunch of dodgy stuff they have clicked.
