My local asian grocery have them for $12.50

    • -2

Yeah but there's no way you can return or get credit if chopsticks are DOA

Also not possible to find which grocer has stock

      • which is best grocer?

      • If a product is faulty the retailer has an obligation to refund you under consumer law. Why would cheap plastic/wooden chopsticks be DOA anyway?

        • When the paint comes off straightaway don;t think you can claim anything from Asia Grocers. You can try, its a waste of time

          • @neonlight: Threaten to report them to Fair Trading and/or ACCC. That usually works.

It's should be no skin off their nose as they can return it to their supplier.

            • @ramboando: Except next time you will be remembered they are unlikely to deal with you. And then who knows if they bring the Asian gang and bikies and raid your home

              • @neonlight: That's fine there's plenty of Asian stores around 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • Which grocery, want to get one

      • which is best modernized(online) Grocer? (yet still somewhat cheap)?

  • +2

This seems like a great way to break some teeth 😆

    • +15

You're not meant to bite the chopsticks though.

      • Yes, but many children chew over the chopsticks (3 years old)

  • +1

Thanks for this, I totally want some pocky chopsticks!

  • +28

These are likely the rubbish ones made in Thailand. You want the made in Japan ones

    • +9

      Can confirm made in Thailand

    • Where can you get the Japanese made ones?

      • +6

Usually the Asian grocery shops in the CBD will have them. If you're in Sydney, there's two shops that specialise in Japanese groceries - Conveni8 in Pitt St and Maruyu in Kent St

      • No need to go to cbd, most Asian stores will have them but they usually stock both Thai and Japanese ones, you have to check the packaging and price

        • Not all Thai ones are always at Daiso. Asian grocers the Jap ones are double if not triple the price

    • What are the main differences between the made in Thailand vs made in Japan ones?

      • +6

        Taste

      • +1

nothing. sugar is sugar. some say there is a difference, but that is not true, if anything there is a 0.000000000001% difference.

        • Depends how good your taste is I guess.

Last time I actually asked the company, there was a difference in oil, and flour used in the biscuit.

Some people can tell the difference between oils very easily, some can't.

          • -3

@MasterScythe: I don't think I ever seen a JP Pocky. Only the Thai ones. Tastes all the same I reckon

            • +1

              @limucat: I don't understand your statement sorry.

If you've never seen Japanese pocky, how can you have an opinion on whether they "all taste the same" ?

Doesn't that mean you haven't had the opportunity to compare?

    • +2

I was reading through the replies and thought we were talking about the chopsticks :/

      • Haha same! Are made in JP plastic/wood chopsticks superior?

  • Which Coles?

    • Knox has it. Pretty sure its nationwide

      • +1

Can confirm; spotted in south-west Sydney

      • +1

Yep, picked one up at Carousel, WA

  • +4

Maybe after cny they might drop in price to become a little more bargainish

  • when is Chinese new year this year?

    • +3

A shame this batch isn't made in Japan, are there any Thailand made packs with the pocky chopsticks?

    It's a great novelty I'd love to have :p

    • +3

are there any Thailand made packs with the pocky chopsticks?

The one in this post …

      • Oh lol, long day. I meant the made in Japan ones 🤦

    • If it's made in Japan it will be triple if not double the price.

Anyhow today I found out Daiso is ripping us off on Pockly you can get the same from Coles also Thailand made for less

My wife was obsessed with Pocky and we would have to go to the Glico store in the Tokyo Train Station and she would buy 10x boxes of those giant rainbow ones and she told me to carry 5 so “she doesn’t look greedy” 😂😂😂

    • +7

Upvoted for balance because 2 people really don't like your wife

      • -1

        She sounds like a keeper.
Any japanophile female is usually a good time.

        • Wow, people REALLY do dislike his wife; lol.

  • What's the pocky "chopstick"?

    • +3

It’s a chopstick that looks like pocky

  • +3

    $1.20 individual packs at woolworths

    • Makes this multipack pretty poor value then.

      • That's with no chopsticks that's what the deal is about….

        • $3 for plastic chopsticks which reportedly the paint wears off very quickly.
Fair enough though, seems to have fans.

          • @bmerigan: Sounds like the paint is wearing off faster than its novelty…

    • Cheaper than Daiso

  • +1
    • I tried to log in and it disappeared?

  • -4

Made in PRC, Korea or Japan?

    • +1

      Nope, none of these 3.

      • lol likely Thailiand or Indonesia

    • Made in Thailand

  • +2

Fyi not worth it if you just wanna get the chopstick. The brown paint on mine peels off really easily. It wont be pocky anymore after the choco paint is all peeled off

    • Imagine if the paint was made from lead…….

      • +1

Unlikely. It wouldn't peel so easily. Lead paint is amazing stuff.

    • thanks for the heads up! was thinking of it just for the chopsticks lol…

  • So 3 days ago I checked my local brisbane Coles and they said there are none anywhere near me (none in brisbane). Friend checked an outter Vic suburb and none available either.
I have heard that Syd have it and possible melb cbd

If anyone knows otherwise pls let me know

    • Leichhardt Coles has alot.

  • +2

Any way to get the chopsticks by themselves?

    • Make them yourself.

  • Nice, thank you

  • +1

Got it. Went to two coles and got the last one.

  • the chopsticks are crap. One of mine has a nub on it and a bit of green paint.

    • +1

      a bit of green paint.

      Matcha?

    • What's this "nub"..!?

      • +1

Manufacturing defect. A bit of clumped up plastic or coating. Haven't been able to remove.

        • any pics of the choppies plz

          • +2

@capslock janitor: Because you asked nicely: https://imgur.com/a/9cBoO7a

They're shit, I don't recommend. They're in some crappy coating, hard to see in a photo but the second pic (minus the defective crap) should be an indicator. I wouldn't eat with them.

            • -1

@ippy: mm yeah they look like regular chops half dipped in brown paint LOL
will keep for novelty, not practicality
(wouldn't trust eating w/ that hard coating you mentioned either)

sucks you have the nub in the top gap, trigegring me

  • Where in the store have people been finding these?

    • +1

      In the Pocky department.

    • +1

International aisle is where they keep all the pocky

    • +1

      Asian aisle, otherwise International aisle.

  • Got a box, the verdict is: not worth.
Chopsticks were very disappointing - expected a round pocky shape like the large image on the box, but it was just a cheap beige standard pair with some brown painted on. If you placed it out in front of someone they wouldn't even recognise that it was pocky.
No need to go out of your way to get these I'd say, even something from the dollar store or daiso will look much nicer/cuter/better quality.
