how long is the usual expiry date?
The smoked salmon I buy usually only has a few weeks on it. Have never seen a 10 month expiry before.
I wonder why the other brands (Tassal etc) don't do this.
I doubt the BBD in this Deal.
This HF Smoked Salmon received on 31/12 had BBD 16/1. The price has since dropped $5/kg, indicating they want it gone.

I had ordered 3 kilos and finished 2 kilos. I liked the Aldi one as it is softer and more tasty.
I've bought both in last month.
Did not notice much difference apart from Aldi is much dearer. Taste is similar.
Enjoyed HF better - considering the price.

Usual BBD of smoked salmon in stores is no more than a month
Given the even lower price now, would not expect long expiry date! It's a clearance price.

No Smoked Salmon I've seen had BBD beyond about a month in supermarkets.

The price was just too low - indicating clearance, & BBD unbelievably long for Smoked Salmon.
Expiry date of this Deal (tonight) is likely due to the short BBD.
We all make mistakes.

Like the $15/kg Smoked Ocean Trout Deal with BBD in 2 daysJust put it in the freezer, it should last for up to 6 months. Just remember to provide an extra seal at the opening sides such as tape or several rounds of plastic wrap, before you freeze it, it's sealed poorly.
Would not recommend buying at BBD to freeze.
Seafood that is at BBD is a poor buy!
Most reports of freezing SS is the texture suffers.
Around BBD I would describe this as mushy - not well suited to eating fresh, but used it in omelettes & scrambled eggs. Freezing won't improve that.
I froze 100g of this HF SS near BBD for a week to try - didn't enjoy it as much when defrosted. Had the fresh product to compare.
Would consider buying at BBD to freeze a waste of money. Paying to store it even more so.
May have been frozen before.

As it is a heavily reduced price, it may not be available for ordering, or orders may be cancelled.
That was the experience in the $15/kg Smoked Ocean Trout Deal with BBD in 2 days. My order was cancelled.
As I found out last time with cancelled Smoked Trout - it's distributed from different locations. If that store is sold out, order of that product is cancelled & refunded.
I mainly buy the Tassal 250g at Coles but it is quite dear. If anyone has some cheaper, tastier alternatives in VIC that would be much appreciated.
Also how long is it usually still good to eat after opening?
🥺 I've never been to Harris Farms, now I know why, its a little far from Fairfield.. Why am I so not bothered to drive to Bondi or any of its stores but love driving to the Gong or Jervis Bay 🤔 Ulladulla? No problem but to grocery shop, 🥱🤮🤢
I made the order but haven't checked the expiry date. Very bad. I've tried to cancel the order but Harris Farm rejected my claim. Delivery will happen tomorrow and I will check BB date.
Got 2kg before christmas and could finish 1kg in 3 days avg. Was so good but definitely OD'd on smoked salmon now lol.

Product is frozen but comes thawed as the item isn't in a frozen truck
Just came back from a Harris farm run - Broadway, Leichhardt and Drummoyne, NSW (in that order, yes my partner was very insistent we check them all out). None in Broadway, 3 or so in Leichhardt (but best before date was 21st Jan) and a lot in Drummoyne and it's $15, see photo here https://i.imgur.com/wEeAJZx.jpg There seems to be two batches - 1/2 of the pile you see here is BB 21st Jan but the other half 28th Jan. There had to be around 100 packs in this fridge. Can't imagine the price changing (as in, go back to rrp) tomorrow.

OP had that date in Deal, but removed it as incorrect.Even for a frozen fish - that would be a very long BB date (usually stated as 6 months max)!
Ringing HF I was told BB 21/1/21. Others reported 21 or 28/1.
Multiple sites say BBD of smoked salmon is a few weeks after packing. That's what is found on supermarket smoked salmon.
No way HF would be clearing stock (was $25/kg 2 weeks ago, twice reduced by $5 to now $15/kg online or less in store) if it could sell it much dearer over the next 8+ months!
