Optus Mobile Broadband Recharge with $30+ on 17 & 18 Dec & Get a Bonus $30 Recharge

70

Just got the below text for Optus Mobile Broadband special over the weekend the link explains it all. It does say "Invite only" though no special codes were given etc. only the link supplied.

Good value considering I'm finding the Optus mobile broadband nearly as quick if not quicker than Telstra wireless these days. Great value if you do dollar days, $3 for unlimited downloading.

Here's the original text msg.

Invite Only! Recharge with $30+ on 17&18Dec & get a bonus $30 Recharge automatically applied in 30days! See: optus.com.au/pp52

Dude…your getting f**ked! I'm on 'dollar days'. Was also being charged the $3's. Go to the 'dollar days' site, switch your plan to the other 'dollar days' and you will get unlimited calls, text, mms, pms, tmi, mp3, dvd, std and internet for $2 a day. They switched the plan down to a flat $2 a day but neglected to tell anybody…especially those on the $3 dollar days.

I'm wondering if optus will accept this $30 deal for those of us with 'pre-paid' phones, nudge nudge, wink wink.

I also haven't received an sms or email inviting me. But I'll try anyway :)

I just did some more investigating, turns out they have a '$3 all you can eat' data download sim, which is for optus mobile broadband (not optus mobile). This enables the user to do the obvious for $3 a day.

If you haven't got a family who loves the net, I just tether my 3G Nokia through my computer to use the net. I charge the phone at the same time using another USB port. As soon as I need to go out, I just disconnect the phone and get unlimited calls/data while I'm out for $2.

If you want to save $1 a day, you can cancel your $3 broadband deal and go to the $2 Optus Mobile plan :) Saving 33% :) But there is a rare chance they might wise up and cancel it, where as they can't with the $3 broadband deal.

I haven't edited my comments above so people can point and laugh at my temporary stupidity :)

    • are you serious? $3 a day for all you can download?

how much data can you get for the $2 Optus Mobile plan?

In theory you can download over a terabyte per month for $60. But I generally…cough cough, do anything from 30GB-50GB for $60. Don't forget, unlimited phone/data/sms etc when I'm out and about as well! ALL my telecommunications needs are taken care of.

        • I'm with live connected for $10.99 a month and that offers enough for my needs.

But +ve to you I didn't know about the $2 deal.

I'm surprised Optus let you download 30-50GB. There terms state "Excludes … Mobile handset tethering and use of non mobile voice devices", it also says "Optus may in the future require customers to change their Internet connection settings to be able to access the Internet while on the Dollar Days offers." not sure what that means.

Nice find, you might want to submit it as a deal yourself as it's a good saving on the $3 a day deal. I just did a quick search and could not find a $2 one on here already (also link to this one as it might be able to be used with it).

        • heck, that's good! I'm sure their 'acceptable usage policy' has some kind of limit, though from the sounds of it, they don't monitor it! :D
That's so good I'm almost considering cancelling my freaking "unlimited" $79 Cap plan which only includes 3GB data, and a 1GB addon data pack for $10, excess usage charged at a ridiculous $0.25/mb…. problem is I'm locked into a 24mo contract for another 7 months.. not sure I want to fork out the $520 early repayment fee.. gah! Optus sure knows how to screw their customers. >_<

  • Yeah I might look at it, could be a good option if it works. But anything beats $150 for 10G form Telstra.

BTW I've easily done 20G+ in one day. So really $2 or $3 much of a muchness. Its more on the days where you need to check your email & nothing else its not such good value but I do that at work so there no drama here.
