I dunno…can you really call TCL "reputable"?

  • Reputable… Yes, it's reputed to be spying on you.

Did you thoroughly read this article? or just the title of it.

      • Did you? Have a look at other articles about TCL security issues that have only very recently come to light. There's something dodgy going on, or they are simply incompetent.

But at the same time I'm considering buying one because I need a new (cheap) TV. I'm torn…

Pretty much all smart TV's are spying on you.

    Howdy,

Have the 55" at my dads place, it's actually not too bad, the OS is decent, brightness and input lag is solid too

The area where it struggles is a telling one, motion blur, gaming, sports etc, it smears a little

    • I’ve got the 43”

Great panel and sound for the money

    • I think they are quite different - usa ones typically run Roku software vs Android Tv here in Aus

  • I also once made the mistake of thinking TCL was a reputable TV brand.

    • why is it not?

Nothings reputable compared to Sony. Samsung, Hisense, LG, TCL none of these can compare.

        • +9

This is very biased. Samsung, LG, Hisense and TCL have been in the TV business for quiet some time and some offer higher warranty compared to Sony. If you just want to get Sony that's fine, but dont knock down the rest saying they are not reputable.

@lknight: For Sony fans, there are only two type of TV in the world, one is Sony TVs, the other one is non-Sony TVs.

          • @lknight: Sony warranty based on my experience is the best. Had a PS2 couldn't read the disc and I couldn't find the tax invoice just needed to quote the serial number they sent me a prepaid courier box to send to them for repair within days. Hisense is probably the worst that my TV DOA within 6 days was told had to be repaired and would only replace if within 2 days. TCL, LG and Sony TVs built qualities are almost equally good in my experience they all are older than 10 years and still going strong. My Samsung Blu Ray player died after 10 years of use and I have no complaint.

  • I'll ask the question we all want to know, how does it compare to the Eko frameless? Worth the extra $150?

    • I asked the same question back in Black Friday. I went into BigW and JB hifi to compare the quality. I went with the TCL 50C715 (NOT P715). I felt that there was a large difference in quality, enough to justify the price difference. I suggest you walk in to do the same to judge for yourself.

      • Fair point, this isnt even P715 though, but a year older model P615.

I'm guessing there isn't much difference between this and the Eko, maybe the Eko is even better, at least the Eko has QLED.

        • Ah, didn't see that it was P615. From seeing the Eko in person, the QLED didn't mean much at all. If I put it next to a GOOD non-QLED, I would probably pick the non-QLED over the Eko. I highly suggest you head to your local Big W and have a look, you'll see what I mean.

@SpacePolitix: I have the EKO QLED 65". I don't really know what QLED is supposed to do, but the price was nothing to sneeze at and I'm pretty happy with what I've got.

What purported benefits does QLED offer over non-QLED screens?

            • @Droz: That's what I am saying. There doesn't seem to be much difference at all if it's low quality QLED. I am saying to compare the quality visually and in-person. @CheapBrah was saying that at least Eko had QLED and I am saying it doesn't make much difference. Go look and decide what you want and what you're happy with. That's all…

              • @SpacePolitix: Oh, i just wanted a quick explanation of what is supposed to do - wasn't a criticism or defence!

    • Picture-wise, excellent quality, looks good as well. Crappy speaker and video freezes sometimes having audio playing in the background. Few blokes suggested turning the TV on and off helps but I have returned mine anyway.

    300 kilowatts?

That's like 400 horsepower in the old money!

    • Typo, must be 300W max.

1.21 Giga Watts! Great Scott! Do you know what that means?!?
