Shame we can't ride them legally in most places…

    • All the more reason to get one.
      Chicks/wives dig bad boys

      • Are they legal in Perth ?

        • -1

Yep, thank god for progressive legislation

@Drakesy: That's what Donald Trump said and look what happened…

          • +1

            @Drakesy: The WA limit is 10kph & 200W.

            The Reid E4 is 25kph & 350W.

    • It's idiotic isn't it, come on NSW you draconian state!

      • +1

        possibly…

there do need to be rules around their use though…

i'm guessing most state governments couldn't be bothered putting in the time…

I liked a comment from jv. What is happening to me?

        • I am glad QLD did, we use ours all the time, so much so I will be selling my car. I thought the Scoot would replace my bike but turns out its replaced the car for me.

That aside, I am gas riders in other states are out riding them, I woudl be nice if the cops started fining them to force the politicians to actually do something aside from be draconian.

I would prefer to see normalised legislation, I think the 25KM/hr and the Kw limits (neither my partners nor mine are legal) are asinine but there are plenty of scoots getting about near me on the GC.

How do you shop at Costco now ???

          • @ruprectaus: I'm relocating to Brisbane in 12 months or so, first thing I'll buy will be an electronic scooter.

        • If they've got time to vote for a pay rise they've got time to do actual work like modernizing archaic rules.

Have a couple of these and very impressed for the price, good for people who are not too heavy :) I'd rate it above a bog standard Xiaomi or the clones, though not a Pro 2. Only concern would be spare parts, but Reid Australia seem to have parts available even if not advertised, and if parts were not available you could return it as major fault anyway. Also not found any hacks, it can in theory be unlocked to 30kmh but all models limited to 25kmh now even the USA/Canada ones.

Put thread locker on the hand grips if you don't want to keep taking them off to fit it in a car, they will not drop off when riding but can get loose.

    • Oh if you look at reviews the neon underneath will probably be rainbow, newer stock is just blue.

    • How does it go uphill? Does it struggle with only 250W?

      • +2

For me at a bit over 100kg small hills ok anything steep and it's a no no. For 65kg rider no issues so far for 12 year daughter who is even lighter it holds full speed.

For the record my Ninebot Max takes me up the same hill at only 14kmh stock and 19kmh hacked to 30A.

        • My ninebot only gets me 8-10kmh uphill depending on battery. Some crazy hills here

          • @BargainKen: Changing it to 30A made a big difference for me, and of course tyres to 50 psi as the forums suggest. 35A added a bit more uphill but not a lot, so dialed it back.

            Not many hills here though.

  • Looks like a clone of the Xiaomi M365 apart from the dash, I own a different brand clone and they are pretty fun.

Description states it has a foot/disc brake but it really looks like it's only a disc brake and may damage the scooter if you stomped on the rear fender.

    • +1

Yeah doesn't have rear foot brake…. Has rear disk and front electronic.

    • Biggest difference to the Xiaomi is the Reid has solid tyres. Pros and cons there of course, but for the use our Reids get I prefer the solids and 0 punctures possible.

Other than that yes very similar other than the dash, the manual even uses the exact same images as Xiaomi/Ninebot use.

      • Are you sure they are solid? They look like air tyres in the photos?

Have you popped off the bottom and checked how many Ah the battery is? With the range they are quoting my guess would be 7.8Ah or less.

        • +1

Says its a 30 cell 7.5Ah, so a 10S3P most likely, but I have not checked. The specs list them as a "cellular solid tyre", and they certainly have no valves on them.

    (From https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/9lklkxq3?p=111#r2219)

Proposed legislation for personal mobility devices (e.g electric scooters, skateboards etc) is expected to be presented to ministers in May 2021 [1]. Ministers in November 2020 agreed legislation needed to change to enable PMDs (summary of proposed rules and speed [2]).

My understanding states are waiting for national legislation to be implemented, to then develop and implement aligned regulation.

    • Hope NSW minister adopt the recommendation by NTC

Which can be use on most Shar path 10km max, cycle path and road for 25km max.

  • This or the Xiaomi Pro 2?

    • +1

Not really the same price bracket, I wouldn’t pay RRP but it was $499 when I got and the Pro 2 was $699 at the same time. For a bigger person the Pro 2 is absolutely superior, but then again JB Hifi were selling the Max for $799 at the same time which I think is better again.

      • Thanks. I might wait for another deal on the Pro 2 then.

  • I have a few of these and love them, especially at this price. I was annoyed at paying $700 for mine as ones with an extended range went on sale around Xmas, but if I’d paid $489 I’d be absolutely stoked. I’m just over the 100kg limit, and still manage to get up to 25kmh, though more steadily around 23kmh. The range is supposed to be 25km, but I think my weight is what reduces it down closer to 18km. Still very happy with it though.

  • Review here on the e4 Plus model (not sure if its the same/similar) as this one is based out of UK: https://www.expertreviews.co.uk/scooters/1412052/reid-e4-plu….

    • Different. Plus has suspension. Plus has 350w motor and 10" wheels vs 250w and 8.5" wheels on this. Not sure what else but those are probably the main differences

      • Yeah and a different folding mechanism.

Avoid Anaconda. I paid for portable fridge last year. No fridge, no refund, not even order cancellation. Bank, FairTrading, Visa - all did nothing so far. Outright lies on phone and emails. 1 star on productreviews.com.au, fascinating read.

  • +1

Looks like these are back on sale, but for $499 now: https://www.anacondastores.com/cycling/scooters/reid-black-e…

Can anyone who got one at the last sale provide a review?

    • also curious to know!

    • +1

Ours are still going strong, I don’t think there is much to compete with them at the $500 mark, but it’s certainly no Pro 2.

Main thing you lose is community support, no custom acceleration curves or power hacks around unlike the more common Units.

  • We have another sub $500 challenger, 250W motor on this one: https://www.jaycar.com.au/folding-electric-scooter/p/GG2400?…
