  • Cinemas must be having a tough time with the competition of movies being released "at home" on streaming platforms.

    • still they are going to survive

We are humans and all have the sense of getting bored, being at the same place even if it's a palace.
Kids still like the idea of going out to the movie and holding a popcorn in their hand. :)

      • I get what you're saying, yeah they're nice, but I don't think that's the deciding factor. Cinemas take a lot of space. There are plenty of ways the land owners can use that space to make more money than the cinema ever will. It's a miracle that we've still got cinemas.

It's not that they can't survive.. just that they aren't the best profit option in dense urban areas. Big complexes in dense areas will go. The smaller complexes might last though.

You'll probably always have seasonal cinemas and festivals etc too.

Mind you, I think it's a miracle that golf courses still exist on prime land. Yet they do!

        • +1

Have you seen golf course membership fees?! That's why they still exist!

        • Many golf courses are subsidised by taxpayers. I don't think cinemas are though, presumably because there aren't enough politicians as members.

  • Thanks Op - Was just looking for cheap movie tickets, so this was perfect timing!

  • Limited choice of movies unfortunately. Be careful.

  • Hoyts is currently running the same promotion in case there's a Hoyts closer to you than Events Cinemas: https://www.hoyts.com.au/offers-events/offers/save-on-family…

  • Highly recommend The Croods: A New Age. My son and his friends, age 10ish all gave it tens If that helps.
