Basically a vintage looking Hue bulb with a fake exposed filament, there are cheaper generic brand ones available but if you've bought in to the Hue environment, they generally sit at the $40 mark … They are around the 550 lumen mark so not overly bright and should be considered for areas where you want an exposed light, i.e not behind a lampshade or cover … maybe the bedroom ?

In any case happy hunting …

  • Side note

A hue bridge is not required for these bulbs but there isn't any real advantage to them if you are only using Bluetooth for them.

    • You want to pull your phone out every time you turn the lights on/off?

      • +5

Ummm yes? You hold the power button or just say whichever catchphrase you use and boom lights.

If you then buy shitty $5 wifi power points, you can hook your fish tank lights into it too, then the Chromecast… next thing you know everything is automatically timed to the sun and you can trigger everything via your phone from the bedroom, its great lol.

    • Is there any reason to use a Bridge, will it give you better or faster control over lights in far reaches of your house (assuming your wifi router can reach)?

        https://www.trustedreviews.com/news/philips-hue-bluetooth-vs…

TL;DR = more lights, more range, more control/integrations (including with Hue non-light accessories and things like Home Assistant)

… lights in far reaches of your house (assuming your wifi router can reach)?

If using the Hue Bridge, your lights will communicate over Zigbee, not Wi-Fi. This creates a mesh network with each individual Hue light acting as a relay as required. This allows the range to be significantly extended in comparison to Bluetooth.

    maybe the bedroom ?

Nah, these are for decorative lighting, in a "shade" that does not fully obscure the bulb. Maybe a stairwell or dining table.

Well it is an Edison 'Screw' type …

Sorry, I'm not with you. Isn't that just the normal socket now? … oh, you mean (profanity)?
        edit: Scotty's prudishness, not mine.

I’ve got two of the bigger globe ones in the bedroom and they look and work good. They’re in lamp stands that don’t obscure the bulb of course, so they’re plenty bright enough.

Thanks for the light bulb socket for non psycopaths.

      • The court does not recognise the Tesla bulbs !
