Why does the white one have no LED screen but the black one does? Seems odd.

    • +1

      black one RRP is higher

    • Seems the white is the analog version, while black is the digital version
Function is the same, but RRP of digital is higher

    • +1

The black one has a different model number which has a higher RRP price. Looks like 2 models combined into one listing.

    • +3

get the white analogue one for the oldies easier to comprehend

  • Apparently the numbers on the dial will come off. Seems it's biggest flaw. I went Ninja after reading a few reviews.

    • On the digital one the after a couple years the dial is a bit unresponsive unless I push the panel in while turning

    • +1

Which one did you go for? I'm torn between the Philips XXL and the Ninja Foodi Dual Zone.

      • I went Ninja Max XL from Catch. 10% of with Unidays.

      • Isn’t the Ninja max XL only 1750W vs the Phillips XXL 2400W twin turbo?

    • +1

I have the black one but I've heard of some applying clear nail polish to the dial, which apparently helps.

    • Sure does, it happened to mine within a very short time period. Had to use permament marker texta to bodgy in my own markings.

    • yep, happened to mine super quick. Like after 2-3 months.

  • +1

It's also $299 at David Jones. I called Bing Lee (5min away from me) and asked them if they can pricematch, and they did :)

    • +1

no bing lees near me , harvey was willing to do $319 if you aren't near a bing lee or DJ. for some dumb reason ended up with the digital version for $430 ….. will sleep on the decision and maybe return and get the analog one :-(

      • Sorry to hear that, nearest DJ to me is 20 min away, Bing Lee still pricematched with no hassle. Stupid Hardly Normal. Have you got any Good Guys store near you? Maybe you can try them

I went to a games night at my mate's house and we put garlic bread in one of these beauts. Turned out crispier than the collar of his dress shirts. Yum. Can't wait to use this deal! Thanks OP!

Turned out crispier than the collar of his dress shirts

Maybe the air friers are not meant for dress shirts ;)

    • You are too kind, stranger!

  • Got mine for $224 which is a price I have not seen since. The Ozbargain in me doesn’t want to pay more than that >.<

    • Don't be confused with XL. This is XXL.

    • I got the XXL digital one for $269 last January. That too is a price I've not seen since.

  • +1

In terms of litres Conversion unit , how much is the XXL?

  • +1

Is there any actual difference between this one and the digital version?

    • +2

Technically no. It is just the way the temp and time is set.
Just look out for what is included as accessories.

  • I have this, very good for family.

  • +1

Are air fryers the new Eneloops ?

  • If you have Cashrewards it comes down to $278.07

  • +1

Can someone explain why people go nuts over these ? I made chips in them and they were nowhere near deep fried ones in terms of taste , it was like just baking them in a fan forced oven

    • +2
      1. Quicker than oven.
      2. Less mess than oven.
      3. Uses less power (I think) than oven.
Just way more convenient for so many things. I especially love using mine to reheat pizza.
    • you don't compare them to a deep fryer. you compare it to your regular oven.

Nothing will beat deep fried chips.

It's a faster easier way of ovening things. We only use our oven for things that don't actually fit in the air fryer now.

    • My chips come out really nice and crispy in my Kogan airfryer. If this hits the $250 mark I'd buy one. It takes some time to figure out the technique on how to make good chips.

This is the best shape chips for airfryer imo

    • Very easy to clean up. I use mine few times a week. After using it, you just take out trays and baskets into a dishwasher. Done!

  • +5

Are these worth the premium over the cheaper ($50-100) air fryers?

    • Have bought 3 kmart ones and one target one (gift for friend) - they did not disappoint. Actually easier to clean because I believe the phillips one has grill plates at the bottom where as the kmart one has the hole punched basket.

I do like that the phillips basket sits on the track thing when you roll it out! But that doesn't justify me paying an extra $200 for

  • My old Phillips air fryer just died after extensive use for a number of years. What does everyone recommend for bang for buck these days? Back when I got my original one it was one of only a couple on the market, now there are so many to choose from.

  • +3

Same size as the Kmart one which is $119. I have the Kmart one and it works perfectly. Not sure spending an extra $180 is worth it.

    • If you can ever find the kmart one in stock…

      • My local one had a massive pile of them a week ago.

        • which local kmart is that? I am trying to find one.

  • How long does it take to cook a bag of homebrand chips?

    • 15-20 mins. No preheat required.

      • Like frozen chips? Literally takes me 5 mins.

  • Thanks. Do you have to toss it around half way to cook ot properly.

    • Yes. If fries I toss every five minutes

  • Besides the time taken to heat, is there any difference in terms of taste comparing an air fryer and a good fan forced oven?

    • I think so because the air fryer has hot air circulating much better through the holes in the bottom as well as being much easier to shake around what you are cooking.

We have had the Kmart one for three months. Gets used a lot for homemade fries incl sweet potato, homemade kfc type chicken etc.

    • no , air fryer allows air to circulate under the food via a mesh tray or perforated basket, unlike a a tray tray in a fan forced oven, fan forced oven if you used a cooling rack and a tray under it would actually do more food, but harder to toss 1/2 way through cooking than air fryer basket.

also frozen chips are blanched at 82c then oil fried at 200c for 1 minute before packing and freeezing so if making chips from raw potatoes expect different results from store bought frozen …..

there is more to making deep fryer quality chips in an air fryer than buy random potatoes coles or woolies, peel, cut and put intro air fryer.

I also own a deep fryer but a clean oil refill with rice bran oil is $12 ….. and southern fired chicken or onion rings pollutes the oil quickly due to crumbs.

    • Cooking time

  • I have a convection microwave that im too afraid to use in convection mode (something about metal in microwaves….. also unsure if we should remove the glass microwave plate before using it in convection mode)

Is this better than a convection microwave?

    • Don’t need to remove the glass plate for convection mode. It also doesn’t use microwavea on this mode unless you set it to dual mode. Don’t be afraid.

  • What's the difference between this and the way cheaper Kmart one?

  • +1

I had the cheap Kmart one but the nonstick coating came off after a few months. I'm a bit scared this coating might be leaking into my food.

What about the Phillips one? Is it better to buy a stainless steel air fryer oven instead?

    • +1

Same thing happened to me. Tossed it out as the nonstick was actually stuck to my food.

    • if we do something heavy like crackling pork belly, we soak the basket and bucket with a cheap dishwashing tablet. comes out brand new :D

    • No non-stick flakes yet so far, daily use since Feb 2020

  • hows this compared to the Ninja AF160?

  • Just bought thinking it was digital, is the fish, pie, pizza options really needed? Should I cancel my order?
