Can GAME hook me up with a cheap copy of Arkham Asylum for 360, preferably new? I really want to play that game!

  • Can you do a good price on Arkahm City EB had it for $47 on ps3 yesterday

      • yeah it was their one day sale yesterday, mad monday sale. their payment systems didnt work though so couldnt order it :(

      • +34

        Really?

Tried price matching at your Parramatta store not long ago, and was told I couldn't price match unless it was above your cost price for the game. Funnily enough I remember 4 stores had the game cheaper, and all the prices were above your "cost".

Just having proof of price isn't enough, especially when your store refused to say what the cost price was when so many other stores could beat it.

Don't even bother with GAME anymore.

        • +19

Yep, same. Clause 8 lets them charge what they want - ie makes the "price match" worthless. I too no longer shop at GAME due to them never matching places like JB and recently, even HN has beaten a few GAME prices by a long way.

        • +14

Yeah, I'd like to hear a response from the rep about the constant lack of pricematching when the EB just 20m away will.

        • +14

GAME and their "pricematching" policy sucks, i refuse to go there anymore, EB never has an issue matching for me.

        • +8

Same here. Until Game lose their piss poor BS cheap trick to get out of price match promise then I will only use them when something is dirt cheap, which is not often. You'll not take a profit from customers like myself until you fix this crap. EB are over priced quite often but they don't piss on the customers.

For everyday prices I'll go to BigW, Target or EB pricematch. Screw Game.

        • +3

AMEN to that brother, Screw Game.

        • +3

lol yeh i remember trying to price match for starcraft 2 and mdern warfare 2, they said, oh we cant match it on those games, theyre too popular…. lol what he meant to say was we dont need u as a customer, someone else will buy it for the price we want to sell it for.

      • +6

If you guys want cred? Bring on an awesome 160GB PS3 deal and your site will be shutdown from all the ozbargain traffic. We see it time and time again sites being ozbargained and yet reps dont seem to see the value of it and give us lame deals :( I like the way your going but please give us an awesome deal and trust me after all the cash they make after selling so many you will be back to post some more

        • +2

  • +12

I can't really see how this is exclusive to OzBargain… A quick search for these titles on the site gives me the prices.

    • -4

Hi Trance N Dance - Apologies for the confusion.

We're sure that you can appreciate that the logistics of creating an OzBargain Exclusive sale are pretty difficult when operating on such tight time constraints before Christmas, especially in the online realm.

Though we can't make sure that our prices are accessible only to OzBargain members, our intention was to reward the feedback we'd received from the OzBargain community and publicise these deals through this channel.

Thanks for the pickup - we'll adjust our title to reflect this now! :)

      • +7

        You've avoided a neg, just. :P

Careful next time, reps have been ripped to shreds in the past for misleading posts.

Should've just posted it without the exclusive in the title in the first place when you know that it wasn't possible to make it exclusive. Would've gladly given a +'ve for this, but refrained due to principles.

Keep the bargains coming, but keep them true.

    • well spotted.

Rugby World Cup 2011 for Xbox for $28 seems like a pretty good deal!
As is the Turtle Beach X41 Headphones for $178

    • +2

X41's were $144 at EB on Monday, thats how much my X31's were last year !

      • +1

Lol and i had just bought them for $200 at EB on Saturday :(

        • +1

If you had rung them up they would have refunded you or whatever.

    • Wow. I got my headphones for ~$220 a few weeks ago. At $178, it's a definite buy for ANYONE who is in the market for a top quality gaming headset for their Xbox 360.

And that silver PS3…. too tempting. Hoping my debit card arrives by Friday and there is some stock remaining.

  • +4

How about SKYRIM PS3 for the same price as GAME UK?

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59056

Even just match the delivered price.

    • +3

Why would you even want to buy the PS3 version when there's still that big gaping save bug? :-P

      • Hardly worth buying another platform for one game, though was tempted by the cheap Xbox the other day.

        • +1

@ …BeAkEr… it's only when your game save file goes over 6MB, not the amount of time you've spent playing. So watch your saves very carefully if you're getting close to the dreaded limit.

EDIT: oops, replied to the wrong comment… can't be bothered fixing it. It's supposed to be a reply to the comment below.

      • +2

No save bug on my PS3 version, before or after the update.

        • +1

on the interwebs it says only becomes apparent after ~25 hours, due to save game filesize.

        • +1

No save bug on my copy either and I'm level 30 now.

        • +1

I should add I'm 50 hours in and level 31. I didn't reach the 8mb save size till after the update.

    • +1

      Get it on PC! MODS!

  • +1

I plussed for the notion of Game doing an OzBargain exclusive, but then I had a look at the actual discounts & now I regret the plus vote.

    • You can retract it by going to the votes tab under the title.
I'm contemplating a neg for calling it an exclusive when it isn't!

    • +1

You can remove your vote. Just under the title for this post is a "view - votes" thing, click votes and remove your vote.

EDIT Filthy TND. Pre-stealing my thoughts.

      • Not his fault you forgot to wear your tinfoil hat…big brother's always watching!

    • Apologies Sage, please see our comment as per Trance N Dance's initial response above.

  • -1

What about a really good deal on the 250gb XBOX Kinect - $346 to $348 is the standard price everywhere with 2 games.

What about $299 with 2 games or $348 with 4 decent games?

  • +4

    My cart keeps becoming empty?

First time was after I entered billing information, second time after I had entered credit card details. I hope they didn't charge me!

Not even worth trying again, I will take my business to JB and get a price match.

  • +1

GAME - are those Yoshi/Mario/etc soft toys that were $9 the other day in your catalogue somewhere on your web site - I can't find them…

    • -6

Hi GreatWhiteHunter, unfortunately, due to popular demand - the plush toys are available in store only.

      • +12

I'm not sure that 'due to popular demand' means what you think it means.

I'm always thinking, I'm happy with that X I just bought, but I wish no one else could buy it online!

        • +3

It's code for "they cost too much to post".

      • +1

Pity you have closed both the Hornsby, Macquarie Centre and Sydney City (under Myer) stores.

Seems there are no game physical stores anywhere near where I usually shop…

        • +1

Hornsby is still there acccording to website

        • +2

Both? Didn't you just list 3 stores?

  • +4

Not excited. $88 for Uncharted 3 is a 'price crash' now?

    • +2

last week, I just ordered from the hut - $35.
keep your eyes on that website, buddy

  • $40 for Resistance looks good but I'm going to pass - I'd rather save the money and wait for the inevitable purchase of Skyrim at full price since I'm getting impatient waiting for it to go on sale…

      • +16

Quoting RRP for games in Australia is quite a joke at the moment. Is ANY game actually sold at RRP?

Edit: By the way, here is game.co.uk (not even close to .com.au price):
        http://www.game.co.uk/en/the-elder-scrolls-v-skyrim-88090

      • +7

Any retailer hiding behind RRP is an insult to us as consumers who shop around, especially OzB-ers, and doubly especially when it comes to games. We weren't born yesterday, and we can very well see that the RRP is NOT in fact, Recommended Retail Price. It's more a Rarely Relevant Price.

        • +2

That's why i never buy locally…it's either Zavvi or Play-Asia for me.

      • This does look like a good price for Australian stock but I'll keep checking to see if you guys can do better in the next few days. And yeah I do partially agree with most people here about the inflated prices but waiting for UK stock to arrive… I'm more the "I want it now" kinda guy and will pay a little extra for an Australian copy - just not that much extra.

      • +2

While the rep stupidly related their price to the RRP, $78 is pretty good for a local copy of Skyrim.
For example, JB HIFI have it for $89.
I know it doesn't compare to overseas, but they are selling local copies of the game that actually cost them more to buy (thanks to the rip off publishers).

        • +2

I paid $79 for Skyrim from JB - on release day.

        • +1

And the next day it was $64 delivered from JB. I was pissed.

  • +4

I love all the bitching and whinging reps face. It's just like EB. Not EB Games, Essential Babies forum.

    • +4

Well I think it really isn't that hard to honestly and simply represent your position. If you claim to have the best deal ever, then it must actually be that. If you are claiming it is the best that you can do at present, and are clear about the conditions of the sale, this is fine.

    • -1

Not sure if you are referring to me or not but not sure I'm bitching…

Have asked for 2 deals and pointing out store closures are making it hard to shop in stores when products in the catalogue aren't online…

I prefer GAME to EB all other things being equal…

    • Agreed - are these great deals? No. Are they good deals? Sure. But we people really think that essentially abusing the rep is going to make them give us better deals?

  • +1

Sure these deals are nothing fantastic, but remember i would imagine it would be hard to compete with importers such as ozgameshop, zavvi and the hut. I think these prices are pretty good for aussie games!

    • +1

Remember, that these vendors are millionaire organisations that ripoff franchisees and customers. They're the ones setting the price not the franchisees. So yes, they can compete with all those other online vendors, it's just they take advantage of consumers who are still willing to pay top dollar.

    • You would think if places like ozgameshop, zavii and the hut can import games and still sell them for ~50% of the "RRP" in Australia then these multi-million dollar companies could setup similar channels. The game market in Australia just suffers badly from price-fixing it's a load of crap.

  • +4

1)GAME should have given at least a "discount" code for OzBargain followers here in this post.

2)Should start matching price with Game UK ATLEAST.

    • +6

I acknowledge that game are in a though spot here. Technically the product that game.co.uk sells is a different product. For all practical purposes it is the same, but it is made different by publishers to help extract money. The result is that although the consumer doesn't see a difference game.com.au can't sell the same product (for the same purchase cost) as game.co.uk.

At the end of the day however, this is the retailer's issue, not the consumers. I think the best we can hope for is for the retailers to convince the distributors that the model does not work and get the system changed. In the mean time, the best way to encourage change is to make use of the flaws in the model.

      • +1

Game Co UK are not paying AU GST, for import tax on consigments greater than $1000 which Game AU would have to cough up when bring in there stock
I shop @ GAME only for sale items, and for that they are fantastic, just have to be in the right store at the right time

        • +3

Yes, but this is not the main part of the problem. game.co.uk could charge 10% more and just pocket it as bonus cash and still be FAR cheaper than game.com.au, even after paying shipping.

        • +2

FYI, check the back side of the cover of any Australian Version games, you will see
          "Manufactured in Australia"

        • +3

You are forgetting Game UK charge 20% VAT which shouldn't apply to exports, and they are still cheap in comparison after paying international postage.

        • +1

There are no Australian customs tarrifs for optical media whether recorded or not to my knowledge. The UK site doesn't seem to remove VAT, which is now 20%, twice the Australian GST.

The fact is that after a 20% tax, and individual first class postage on discs to Australia to separate consumers, it is still CHEAPER for people to buy games from the UK.

There are only a few explanations which are rational. Either Australians are so inefficient at selling games that they require what amounts to an industry wide subsidy in the form of huge margins not found elsewhere in the developed world, or maybe it's just rent-seeking behaviour on the part of the publishers who want to extract monopoly like profits from Australia.

If the first explanation applies we should immediately dismantle all Australian infrastructure for selling games, encourage massive parallel importation including concessions to overseas suppliers to warehouse in Australia for Australian consumers.

If the second explanation supplies we need to break the monopoly power of publishers by destroying the mechanisms they use for price and consumer discrimination. How? By encouraging massive parallel importation, & applying (moral) pressure to large retailers and suppliers in Australia.

JB Hi-fi have the Sims 3 Pets (PC) for $34… will you beat that? :)

    http://www.jbhifionline.com.au/game/pc-games/sims-3-pets-exp…

EDIT: NVM, looks like it's sold out online :(

  • +2

    I want a PS3 160GB :D
    Give us a better deal.

  • +14

I miss the good old days when GAME used to have some truly awesome xmas specials.

    These are pretty average

    • +2

I fondly remember Napoleon: Total War for $12 a few years back, those were the days…

  • What about Sims Medieval for PC? What is your best price? if you can match or better $15 I am happy to buy as that is the best price I have been able to find so far.

    • Where did you see that price - I'll buy for my kids at that price…

      • I will probably post the deal tomorrow. I will buy first as otherwise I get told again by some people on here it is a scam etc. They still show more than 600 in stock.

  • Fifa 12 discount please!

  • +2

For what I'd be interested in it's not the best sale. Last week I was going to buy NBA 2K12 and the usual places (JB/EB/GAME) all had it for around $70, then EB had it for $44 on Monday so I bought it. Thanks for the effort, but $65 isn't much of a sale price, sorry.

  • Damn it I paid $249 for the Turtle Beach PX5's on Monday. It already arrived and I opened it. $199 is really good so if you want an awesome wireless headset for the PS3 I would grab one. Only crap thing about it is that it needs to be a few meters away from your wireless router because it runs on the 2.4Ghz band.

Edit: And! I can take calls and listen to music via bluetooth with it. That's actually really handy - I hate it when people call me when I'm gaming online

  • +6

Gotta admit, you're getting hammered as a rep. Sorry to see that.
That said, looking for a dirt cheap xbox controller. It's probably too late to include in the sales though.
Worth a shot asking. Good luck with all the questions.

    • +2

A PS3 one too please! And in a different colour to black, that would be awesome

    • If you are not in a hurry, try getting one from Ebay. I bought several Chinese made controllers and they work like a charm. Cost me less than $15 including postage.

      • +1

Thanks but when it comes to controllers I need the genuine ones, every other one breaks quicker from my experience. And having an extra one before everyone is over on Christmas would be really nice. I found these for $60, they have them in lots of colours (but no transparent ones unfortunately), but I've never bought from them so I dunno if they're reliable/fast on shipping etc http://www.crazysales.com.au/genuine-sony-playstation-3-ps3-…

        • Don't always take it out on the controller mate. :-)
If I am not mistaken, the genuine ones are also made in China or Taiwan, right?

        • +3

Gallifrey, even if the controllers are made in the same place, it appears to be irrelevant as there is clear disparity in terms of quality.

        • Same factory even?

        • +1

Gallifrey, even if the controllers are made in the same factory, it appears to be irrelevant as there is clear disparity in terms of quality.

    • +1

$30 plus post will get you my brand new white one.

Its new because I have no need for 6 controllers. Yes, I've owned too many xboxes. It's OEM packaging because it came with a console.

Go to my user details and click contact and we can discuss.
