**** all people do is whinge these days.

    • +9

so pointing out a deal is mediocre is whinging is it?

Part of what makes OzB great and not just an advertising site is that people can critique the deal and posts, and vote up or down accordingly. This place would be a lot worse if all the "deals" posting to the front page weren't vetted by the community

By the way…your post is a whinge - just saying

      • +1

Couldn't have said it better myself!

  • +2

39 plus votes for mediocre deals - not bad…. Imagine if there were awesome deals…

  • All your cheap 3DS games have been out of stock for the past few weeks :(

  • +1

    Sympathy votes :-)

  • +7

mediocre prices is flattering, all these posts - majority of which are critical and all these plus votes - is it impossible to neg this myer type sale or what?

    • huh?

      • +1

These prices are average… for example i bought sports active 2 for $17 and killzone 3 for $26 from ozgameshop.

The playstation 3 price is pretty good thou.

  • dance central 2 out of stock. my kid want to have this game..

  • +11

Rubbish sale. Way overpriced. More an ad than an actual bargain. Try at least to pricematch the likes of zavvi or thehut before you advertise on ozbargain.

  • +2

Dead Rising 2: Off the Record for $22 seems okay. If it wasn't just a remake of DR2, which I already own, I would've bought it.

  • You asked, we listened.

If you really did; then your prices will be cheaper that zavvi, game.co.uk, thehut and ozgameshop etc.

I think that sums up your "disgust" with this submission. Then again, it seems like a lot of people here beg for deals, get it, yet still complain about a saving.

I for one just bought myself Sonic Generations, Red Dead Redemption: GotY Edition and NBA 2K12 for the Xbox 360. Couldn't care less about the $5 difference between GAME [AU] and GAME [UK]. I'd rather support the local businesses, because if people like myself didn't, then there'd never be any need for local retailers to TRY and lower their prices.

I'm also gunning for that silver PS3. I may be paying more locally, but again, I'd rather support the local retailers and those who try to put food on the table for their families.

      • +5

Thanks iBuzz7S! Most people don't realise that it's physically impossible for us to match the prices of our importing counterparts. As it is, a fair portion of the prices that we adjusted today are loss-leaders.

We think that comparably, for most products we've featured as part of this sale, we are exceptionally competitive when compared to Australian retailers selling Australian goods and in most cases we better the prices of our rivals.

We hope to be able to continually reward our loyal customers like you, and would not be able to do so without your support!

        • +9

          What a load of crap

"Most people don't realise that it's physically impossible for us to match the prices of our importing counterparts."

Time to look out for better importers/suppliers to get your stock? Even if you can't beat importers, at least try to meet your local competitors who continually beat you and have the decency to have an honest price matching policy when competitors have a better price.

"We think that comparably, for most products we've featured as part of this sale, we are exceptionally competitive when compared to Australian retailers selling Australian goods and in most cases we better the prices of our rivals."

So you're finally admitting that you're not competitive unless you're having a sale?

I don't understand how you're selling "Australian" goods unless the developer was Australian. In most cases it's the same game worldwide just with a different classification sticker. Does a locally made product sent to New Zealand become a product of New Zealand?

Also, no, you're not better than your rivals - not even at your sales.

Your Sims 3 Pets for PC - $44
Dick Smith Sims 3 Pets for PC - $39

          iBuzz7S -

"Couldn't care less about the $5 difference between GAME [AU] and GAME [UK]. I'd rather support the local businesses, because if people like myself didn't, then there'd never be any need for local retailers to TRY and lower their prices."

I agree completely if it is a $5 difference, but you the in many cases the difference could be even as high as $40. That I care about. Local retailers should care when they realise everyone is importing, a decline in sales should easily wake them up.

"I'd rather support the local retailers and those who try to put food on the table for their families."

Again, I'm all for local businesses, but what makes up massive differences between our stores and UK stores? Do they not pay rent or their employees?

The difference becomes more obvious when places like ozgameshop can offer discounts of $40 on a game, it's not like they use slaves to run their shop, and they can offer free shipping and still make a profit while being significantly cheaper than GAME. Do GAME fly their employees First Class overseas to pick up stock or something?

I'd love to support my local shops, but when GAME have terrible and cocky staff like they do at Parramatta, and have awful prices with price matching policies that only benefit themselves, then no. I'd rather see online distribution services like Steam ruin their business.

        • +1

          IceCreamBandit,

I agree with a lot of what you say, but your commends about Australian stock are inaccurate, the products are physically (barely) different and this means that they cannot sell UK stock. They can however pressure companies high up the chain to fix the problem.

      • +4

I'd rather support the local businesses, because if people like myself didn't, then there'd never be any need for local retailers to TRY and lower their prices.

I really don't follow your logic at all, the conclusion just doesn't fit.

I'd rather support the local retailers and those who try to put food on the table for their families.

Because people from other countries don't eat.

I'm not saying there aren't good reasons why you cannot compare this to international sellers, but that you should work on your arguments, they do not make much sense.

        • +2

Exactly. If it cost local retailers that much to sell games compared to overseas retailers it just highlights the inefficiency with the local market. Someone, somewhere along the line is eating up the profits. A game is a game whether from the UK, US or Australia and there is no excuse for such a huge pricing difference. Please stick to targetting the uninformed mum and dads who buy Mario for their 6 year olds and not the informed crowd.

    • -2

GAME prices aren't bad when compared to Australian retail prices. It is physically impossible for GAME to match the likes of Ozgameshop or Zavvi without selling far below cost and in the end they would be losing money.

It's not their fault, it's the lack of competition in Australia as well as game publishers not treating Australia the same way as the rest of the world in terms of game prices. It's not just games that cost more here but pretty much every single thing you buy.

I say buy everything from overseas (that's what I do) and make the retail sector in Australia suffer. If no one is buying locally then they'll be forced to reduce prices.

      • +1

from the comments and examples people have given, game are often worse than eb - which is saying something. I agree they cannot match ozgameshop or zavvi currently, but if these executives and people along the chain take a smaller cut, then yes, i say they can sell games all the time for $60.

I dont see why the rep should mention the RRP of games, no one pays that and should not be mentioned, i wonder if the rep even pays GAME's prices himself, why would anyone when they're apparent 'Sale' is pretty awful compared to the EB one.

This rep also chooses which comments he replys to? so obviously, game is choosing not to listen.

  • Game sucks.

  • +3

    BOOOOOOO

    Price matching policy* sucks.

    Note to REP:
    Oz-bargainers hate the Asterisk

    • -3

Asterisk's exist because they need to unfortunately. Its also unreasonable to expect them to pricematch overseas prices.

      • +3

no, its that GAME wont price match JB or Big W when the price is 'below their cost price'.

I remember wanting to buy black ops on release day, JB had it for 79, so i go into game which is only about 30 seconds walk, and they said they wont price match because it is below their cost price.
What a load of crap!… if JB can sell it for 79 and still make a profit, just shows that it is not their cost price.

GAME will go out of business if they continue with their current price matching policy because gamers want the best price, and for those of us who want to buy their games in AUS they wont want to go somewhere that wont guarantee a price match, I mean, why would they want to go to GAME when they can go to JB or the Big W that has the game for the cheaper price.

No wonder GAME stores have closed a lot over the past year, Im sorry for those employees that have lost their jobs, but its those executives and australian game suppliers that have been very greedy and ripping off the australian public.

GAME used to have good sales, but these are just like the 'SALE' you get at myer or kmart… nothing special

  • +1

Are you able to get Buzz! on PS3?

    • +1

      Hi Expon,

We do have the 'Ultimate Music Quiz' version of Buzz! on PS3 normally, but it's unfortunately out of stock at present. Best check with your local retailer if you'd like a copy for Christmas!

      • +2

Yes and Game actually did have a good deal for the Ultimate Music Quiz when I ordered it… only to be told a few days later that they did not have stock, even though when I purchased it, the website said that it was 'In Stock'.

  • +2

You're still selling the old Wii's for $199??

  • +2

I was thinking of negging, here's a few reasons why but I'll reserve judgement at the moment.

    1. Prices aren't fantastic and they can be bought cheaper elsewhere (this is ozbargain, imports vs local is negligible)

    2. You're quoting RRP

    3. You aren't replying to the comments people want you to

It's a competitive world & local retailers are only now starting to learn people are voting with their wallets & they're buying online.

Edit: To be honest if I saw these deals at my local game/eb I would walk right past.

    • +3

      Hi Redmoon,

      Thanks for your pointers!

      1. As we've said previously, we consider that these prices are extremely competitive and (if not better) than our Australian retail counterparts.

      2. We quote RRP because these are prices stipulated by the manufacturers after they take into consideration our retail margins, costs etc etc. The manufacturers make the same $$ regardless of whether we sell at RRP or below, and undercutting RRPs ultimately comes from our pockets.

      3. While we'd love to respond to all of our user comments, we've reserved comment on some of the more controversial issues while we discuss pathways to satisfy consumer disgruntlement internally. In particular, we're considering avenues to assess our current price guarantee and are keen to identify what we can do in the way of consoles and hardware in the ensuing days.

We value any consumer feedback we get (both positive and negative) and we're keen to learn where we can do better moving forward.

      Stay tuned!

      • +3

        Thanks for replying.

        1. If you are not able to beat local prices (see DSE price for sims 3 pets) then please don't list them.

        2. Products never sell for RRP, because of the competition between stores. Quoting it looks silly, as it might as well be +$1000 for all we care.

        3. As you can see, you need to bring clear guidelines and total honesty when posting on ozbargain. I hope that this will promote discussion within GAME on some of your policies, and that you will be back again with a better deal some other time in the future.

        Ozbargainers like:
        - free postage
        - exclusive discount codes
        - low price on one popular item, not mediocre prices on many
        - rep discussion and clarifications (much appreciated!)

        Cheers!

  • Its not just the *'d price match policy, they dont' even match their website prices instore or list prices instore on the website.

  • +3

i no longer shop at game because of the price match policy.

  • +1

    $10 off $100 using code Christmas2011

    • +1

Are there any conditions to this code? When I enter it for a product over $100, the code says it has applied the discount, but it does not apply the discount.

      • +1

only the products within the Christmas Gift Guide.

        • +1

Ah thanks, yes, that's why it wasn't working.

  • +7

I hate to say but EB sale that happened on Monday had better deals than GAME. Never experienced that before because usually EB is horrible for prices even when on sale.

  • +1

Ouch, some hard lessons here. At least there's a large retailer taking notice, bonus points to GAME there at least.

  • +1

i dont get why u guys buy locally in the first place
ive bought like 5 new titles this year and havent spent more than $100

    • day 1, buddy. (like getting games when they're new i.e first day)

I've been screwed around with online orders too many times, I hate the random chance of having to wait 4 weeks for things. Some things I've bought have been dodgey versions, some things I never receive.
Too much BS, I prefer just popping down to the shop and having it with minimal hassle.
Plus the returns, just pop down to the store if there's any problems.
Online you have to open a support letter, maybe pay postage to send it back, not worth it.

  • +1

What a lousy sale. BIG W = best value for games.

  • +4

EB online had Duke Nukem for $18 with free delivery on Monday during their sale, on 360 and PS3. You have it for almost twice that price, at $35 delivered. You speak about price matching in your comments, so can that price be adjusted to what your competitors were selling it at?

    Some other games of note.
Midnight Club for $35. JB's day to day price is $20 (part of 2 for $40).
Avatar $38 GAME, $25 at JB for the special edition with the figurine.

Overall it's a pretty laclusture sale, and if you had come in just saying we've got some specials, check it out, well then that's fine, you'd probably get people on your side for at least trying. When you make a post like you've got the sale to end all sales, and make statements like "We know our OzBargain followers will hunt around, so we've drastically reduced prices", how can you not expect to get torn a new a hole? People here are way to savy to fall for that, will see straight through it, and will call you out on it.

Unfortunately memories of your stock clearance sale in store a year or so ago spoilt too many.

Lastly since you said you appreciate comments for and against, like most posters, I strongly despise your recent change in your price matching policy too.

    • +1

As an addition to the whole price-matching thing, how about getting stores to match the online price, or even say online +10% or something? I mean Game had 'Gears of War' for PC online for $9, in store for $44 and refusing to do any sort of price-match. There wasn't a chance in hell I was going to buy it for $44.

  • +4

Ultimately we are all at the mercy of the game distributors in Australia who set the price not the stores like GAME or EB.

The distributors have the exclusive rights to sell those licences games in Australia hence no one is is allowed to import and under cut.

As long as mum and dad pay full RRP for games then there is no incentive for distributors to drop game prices to compete with on-line shopping where they lose some customers.

    • +1

      Exactly.

What makes it harder is it's difficult to quantify the proportion of sales lost to imports. If every person who reads Ozbargain imported their games, what % of national sales is that?

To match import pricing, a distributor/retailer may need to drop prices by as much as 50%, but if they only gain 20% increase in unit sales, then financially, it wouldn't make sense to do it.

  • +3

I can't let this deal go without negging it. It's so frustrating to me that a rep would post a purported "deal" on this website when all the prices carry a significant premium over import stock that is readily available to us. I can appreciate that your costs are higher (higher rent, higher wages, higher cost of stock) but that is completely and utterly irrelevant to us, your customers, who only see a dollar value. When that dollar value is often HALVED by an overseas company, it is very hard to justify buying locally - even if you have to wait a week or two longer. It's also very hard to justify when my last experience in a GAME store involved me being hassled by an idiot employee for 10 minutes in an attempt to get me to buy a HDMI cable and extended warranty for my new Xbox.

This is just advertising - something to stick up on your shop windows, not on Ozbargain.

  • +3

I've been checking everyday for dragon age 2 for the last 2 weeks on your website for the price to go down from 49 brand new and 35 pre owned. I wake up this morning to DEAL OF THE DAY 35 dollars for it but just before i got too excited i see preowned under it. It has been 35 dollars pre owned for the last 2 weeks and you're trying to pass it off as a special deal of the day. Not impressed.

    • +2

same when JB do a new yellow label that has a price on it saying "crazy price" or "hot deal"… and you look under the tab and its exactly the same price.

  • +1

Hey GAME are you still listening?

If so, I think you'll find a lot of OzBargainers still want a stunning 250gb XBOX Kinect deal before the $50 cashback expires on 24 December 2011.

    • +2

We won't promise anything, but stay tuned! 'Tis the season for giving after all…

      • I've stayed tuned but it looks like you've stopped broadcasting….

  • +1

does the silver ps3 have 2 controllers? the picture says it does the description doesnt mention?

    • +2

      Hi Bargainatoraah,

To answer your question - the silver PS3 comes with a single controller, as outlined in the description. :)

      • as i said the picture you have used is for the bonus controller, so does it come with one controller plus a bonus controller ?

        • +1

2 controllers???? you must be seeing something nobody does. It only has one controller and a ps3, in the description it also clearly states in the top line of it says "x1 Controller"

  • wait for the real sales post xmas.

  • +1

These are all pretty average prices.

  • They cancelled my order because they didn't have the item in stock, despite it saying IN STOCK when I bought it. Not impressed, part of my boyfriends' xmas presents. Do they do that a lot? Or are they usually pretty good with noting when they're out of stock?

    • shrug the West Coast Eagles team store did the same to me. Unfortunately someone may have bought the very last one just before you. It's a pain in the rear, but I don't think any e-tailer can prevent things like that happening from time to time.

      • Yeah true, thanks. Still not happy though… he was disappointed when I told him I couldn't get it, hehe. But he's a big boy, he'll get over it.

  • +1

I like that we have asked, and you haven't listened.

  • Some pretty good prices, not even worth worrying about price-matching. I do have a question for some of you tight arses though. Since when did it become a crime for a store to make profit?

  • -1

Also, I'd like for a few of you loud-mouths that seem to know it all about how much profit the stores make and actually work in one. JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman make a loss on most games when doing them at $78, this I know for a fact. The gaming section is a loss-leader to draw consumers into the store and hopefully they grab a hdmi cable or whatever while they're in.

    • +2

Do consumers care about the amount of profit a store makes? We, especially those here on ozbargain, obviously just want the cheapest prices possible. So no, we don't care if stores make a loss when they offer us cheaper games, we just want the cheapest games.

It's not a crime to make profit when in business, that is the point of being in business, but from purely a consumer's point of view, we don't care for it much at all. We won't feel bad or care if JB make a loss at $78 when we can get basically the same product (except for a classification sticker) for much cheaper from an alternative source.

Ozbargainers just want the cheapest price, not an ad about semi decent prices that seem like they are the greatest deals ever.

        • +2

Essentially, at the time, you are. Either price-match or don't, but from a customers point of view when you advertise it and then say 'oh gosh, sorry, we can't' it's incredibly annoying, and actually undermines confidence in the business rather than enhancing it.

As to the point about profit, I agree with IceCreamBandit - no, I don't care how much profit they make, why should I? Do stores care how little money I have? We want the best deal possible, and the tenants of capitalism is that you either sink or swim - if you can't compete, you sink, and so you should.

  • +3

Agree with what IceCreamBandit and Captain Obvious have said.

GAME Reps if you're reading this, the reality is people will always find a better deal. Online or at retail shop.

Totally unrelated but I feel it should be mentioned is the rewards program GAME have.

Old program was for every dollar you spent, you get 10 reward points. Accumulate 5000 ($500 spend) reward points, you get a $27.50 voucher to use at GAME stores. They then changed the rules so you couldn't get rewards points on console purchases.

New program is every dollar you spend, you get 10 GameOn points. For every 1000 ($100 spend) GameOn points you accumulate, you get $2 store credit to use.

    Pathetic.

    • I can hardly see $27.50 a loss as $500 spend..
