It’s not a bad little projector for less than $100.

Basically, I reckon the novelty of having a 3 meter screen for less than two cartons beer outweighs the limitations of its picture quality.

Yes, you can definitely get better picture quality from other projectors but they’re relatively much more expensive.

Input lag was very good for Switch games I’ve found.

Only real annoyance is that it’s fairly loud.

But otherwise I’d buy another one. I paid $130 for ours.

  • Damn it, I just bought this yesterday for $130

Edit. Nevermind cancelled my order and bought again at this price.

  • What's the fan noise like on this? My Vivibright VP100 gets loud sometimes :(

  • +1

I used one of these when I couldn't afford a TV in the UK. The quality is very very average but it worked well for me!

    • +1

What couldn't you afford? The TV, Licence or both?

      • +3

lmao imagine actually paying the TV license. I'd buy winzip before I'd do that.

        • +1

GASP! Not paying for WinZip too? I suppose you didn't pay for the extra codecs for Win 10 and Ad free YouTube :P I'm in shock good sir! SHOCKED I SAY!

PS. Watch out they will send the TV Licence vans with their magical TV checkers :P

  • Do not know if I need it but ordered anyway :p

  • Not bad, there's also this 720p projector for $99 from Auspost which I've been using for 6 months without issue:

    https://auspost.com.au/shop/product/thomson-720p-hd-projecto…

    • +1

      lol 160lumens….

      • 160 ANSI Lumens

People said ANSI Lumens not the same.

      • +4

lol at taking lumen specs seriously on a cheap chinese projector. None of them are accurate.

        • +1

Usually the lumens claims for these projectors refer to the lumen output of the LED light source (even that could be exaggerated). For example, Philips also uses "LED lumens" as part of the specs of the NeoPix Start+ (650 lumens LED light source in this case).

Once you account for the light loss in the optics (relatively minor) and the LCD panel (significant), the actual brightness of the image will be at approx. 2-5% of the light output at the LED light source.

I found this estimation to be reasonably close to equivalent level in ANSI lumens (i.e. 4200 lumens at the LED light source will translate to approx. 84 - 210 ANSI lumens), provided that the lumens rating at the LED light source is reasonably accurate.

  • Can it play media direct from USB sticks, SD Cards, etc… does it have it's own inbuilt player?

    • Multi Home Theater Mini Projector - QKK full hd projector also has HDMI, AV, VGA, SD Card port, which allows you to use it with Laptop, PCs, TV Box, TV Stick, Tablets,DVD player, SD Card, USB Flash Drive, players (Music, Pictures, Video), Smartphones ( Wireless HDMI Dongle not included).

      • Sorry I just meant can it play MKV/MP4 natively straight off a stick.

        • +1

I have one, and most times the video plays but the sound doesnt. It seems a bit limited in the support of sound codecs, I would always use a secondary player with it.

          • @danielpenna: In that case I'll probably use it with another device too. Cheers.

            • @beebul: There's a free program simply called "Super" that converts one video or sound format to just about any other. Rip some short test files to see which one works with this projector. Then drag every video file you have into its window and convert the lot til done.

              • @[Deactivated]: Thanks, I might just stream to a RPi from my NAS :)

                Handy to know though..

        • Just a nerdy observation; those are both containers, not video/audio files.

Think of it like a zip file, containing a bunch of images, and an audio track.

Thats the same as asking "can Word open this Zip file?"

Well, depends if there's a document inside.

          For example;

An MP4 made up of h264 video and MP3 audio? probably. Those are both common codecs.

However an MP4 made up of MOV and APE?
Well, one is (almost) apple specific, and the other is an uncommon codec.

Not being a smart arse, just educating because this comes up at work ALL THE TIME.

Usually people ask for something specific to ensure compatibility. Asking someone to effectively "zip" a difficult to use codec doesnt make it any easier to use once your player tries to "unzip" it.

Basically, mp4 and mkv could be the worlds easiest to play files, with low bitrate divx and mp2 audio. Or it could be the devil in obscure formats within.

The (dot) filetype has no influence on what can and cant be played.

In fact. If you do video editing, you can just change the container extension quite often, so badly written programs will open them (assuming you know the codec inside)

          • @MasterScythe: Sure I knew this but many don't… It's a bit like trying to explain to someone why a 6gb file won't fit on a 64gb USB stick that is formatted to FAT32 :)

I'm happy to use Handbrake to re-encode my kids films, it seems that the native player is just fussy with the audio. I'll have a test when it arrives 👍 I just wasn't sure it actually had an in-built player, but further research says it does.. but it can't natively play GIFs 😂

  • Gonna give it a go… does it have returns?

  • Would this work well projecting onto a hill in a gully?

    • Nah, each pixel would be the size of a soccer field. Get at least 1080p.

    • Probably need a white background. And if you mean from a long distance probably not. It probably doesn't have the ability to 'pull in' the image that tight. See the unboxing video I put below. He's only a couple of meters from his wall but the image is already the size of a largish TV.

    • It's like 'I bought a $5 ultra bright torch, can I light up the moon?' :)

It's not bright enough for an 80' screen mate.

  • Thanks OP, got one..

  • Bought one thanks

  • Yeah, why not LOL. Cheers, OP.

  • dont forget to get shopback cb of 4%

  • Does this work only connected to AC power or does it also have a battery?

  • +1

I had this one. Its a great projector. You won’t notice any different if its 720p or 1080p. I still feels like its was 1080p. Picture is very crisp and colourful. Use to play COD on ps4 and there wasn’t any significant lag. If someone thinking to get projector then don’t miss this deal.
Note that its not good at daytime but at night its just amazing.

  • Good job OP. Noticed you from the previous deal I posted about this projector haha. Glad to see that you have enjoyed it

  • Bought one, thanks OP

  • what's the best way to get this hooked up to a sound system? bluetooth?

    • +1

I use a 10M HDMI cable to connect it to my surround system.

Or you can use bluetooth transmitted to sound bar.

    • +1

You can use a BT transmitter. There's one sometimes on sale at Amazon https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/581340

      • thanks to you both - would you recomend this over a usb bluetooth adpator?

        • +1

USB BT adapter won't work with this projector in my experience

    • Hooked this up to sound bar I had lying around. Can use 3.5mm aux or hdmi throughput from a vodafone tv/stb/etc.

  • Got one, thanks.

  • $129 now

  • -6

To best describe this is a 'toy'. Only use could be on 'camping' when you just need an image, dont' care about quality.

Image quality will be worse than the cheapest TV anywhere. Well, you get what you paid for.

Dont believe it's 4200lm, I doubt it will reach even 420LM.

When everyone got stuck at home without going to cinemas, what's the point to get such garbage? Just watch something on your phone, or your TV.

Get a $1000+ projector is the bare minimum if you want a big screen.

    • Comment from someone didn't own it.

  • Bummer missed it

  • Didn't really need one, but got one lol. cheers OP

  • bought one, not sure if I reeeaaaalllly need it :/ lol

  • Damn, looks like I just missed out.

  • $129.99 now

  • +2

Got one last time round. It’s really great for trips away and even as a bedroom set up
You need pretty much complete darkness but it’s not like it’s an every day thing, plus it’s fun and so cheap so I can forgive it
It’s actually given me a projector bug. I’d love to buy something now for under $500 which is brighter and higher resolution

  • Picked one up too. Anyone have recommendations on a portable screen? Even if using a bedsheet, how are people attaching/fixing it?

    • Thye offer a fre 100inch portable screen if you leave a five star review. Not a huge fsn of these practices but I'm so impressed with this little unit for the $80 odd price tag that I would have left a 5 star review anyway. May as well get a projector screen out of it.

      • Where does it mention about the 5 star review gets a 100” screen? Would like one if you could please let me know. Thanks

        • In the box you should have received a card with instructions on how to claim it within 72 hours of delivery.

      • Only opened the box today, was delivered to me on Thursday, wonder if I can still score one, emailed them and finger cross. Has anyone received the portable screen and can comment on it? Thanks.

  • +2

I bought that brand the last time it was on sale for that price - optically meh.. its okay, but corners at the bottom corners are quite soft… Also, dust inside the bottom left of the unit - will have to open it up one day to give it a clean…. The fan noise is the biggest complaint I have. Why can't they make the same type internals but with slightly better optics, charge say $200 for it and give it like a 120mm fan thats user upgradable and can be swapped for a really quiet noctua? Then you get a decent screen and whisper-quiet performance at a decent price point.

I'm beginning to think the engineers of these projectors have bad hearing and don't seem to care how noisy they are.

Any more than $100 for these projectors (with this level of quality) and you're paying too much these days.

    • My corners look fine. I think the blitzwolf projector that's also on ozb is the next step up but it's circa $240 which is 3x the price of this thing.

Enjoy Your Life, be The Happy Man.

  • Quick service mine is being delivered today

    • +1

Played with it today for the price can not complain. Fan is a bit noisy and the speaker built inside is not bad for what it is.

Plays Media files from USB nice and clear have to play with the focus to make it just right to stop blurry parts from either the top or bottom.

In the box is a card that asks for you to give them a 5 star review on Amazon and then email it to them as proof and they will give you a 100 inch screen as a gift

  • +2

    Arrived.

    Pros;
    - bright
    - cheap

    Cons:
    - Fan is hella noisy.
    - blurry corners
    - 720
    - no optical zoom

The visual issues largely disappear once you start to watch something (brain adjusts), but the fan is the biggest downside. A constant whine to remind you that you cheaped out.

  • damn, missed it. Anyone ordered spare one? lol

  • +1

there is another one from the same seller but higher price. Is that one good as well? It seems to have better review though.

  • Mine got delivered at noon, with a card in the box offering a 100-inch screen in exchange for a within-72-hours five-star Amazon review.

  • -4

All these people Waffling on -As there is not one person commenting that has this unit and giving an honest review, Just like the sound of their voice, like reading what they type or think they are showing us how smart they are not.

  • +1

Mine arrived today, had pretty low expectations given the price but was pleasantly surprised. For my intended purpose the projector works great and has a sharp picture, it is nice and compact and seems to play mkv's which I wasn't expecting :)

    • Yeah got mine very happy with it for the price. Some MKVs play but others have no sound, I've re-encoded those in Handbrake with the Fast 720p preset and they work now. Plus save a lot more space on the USB stick.

Gonna test it out with my SNES mini today :)

      Kids love it.

      • +1

Let us know how it goes with the SNES mini.

I was planning to do the same with all my Mini consoles haha :D

        • +1

Hi it works brilliantly - no lag even with using a wireless controller (well none I can detect)

It really looks good filling most of a wall 🍄

    • +2

I quickly threw it on the bonnet of the hilux last night, to give some perspective as the image doesnt do it much justice.. the shed is 12m x 8m x 5m… the picture was really clear, doesn't translate well in the slow exposure, more than enough light from this little projector and focus above 176", lit up the green shed nicely. Think I'll try some retropi games tonight for a laugh

      https://ibb.co/0J9cnz4

      • I found it works great with retro games.. Enjoy!

  • Pro:
    -Bright
    -Price

    Cons:
as per previous comments, the fan is loud.
connecting headphones to the audio jack and volume is low even at max ( output to a speaker is fine tho)
    supplied tripod is broken.

  • Does anyone know if the USB ports can power a Chromecast 2? Was thinking of buying one to add more functionality…

    • +1

I have chromecast 1 which is fine, so 2 should be fine because both can power by TV.

      But not chromecast Google TV

      • Thanks 👍

      • Hmm why doesnt google tv work?

        • USB port not enough power for Google TV have to use their own power adapter.

      • Hey there, what do you use for audio?

        • Just have mine plugged into a portable Sony speaker with aux in.
