Google Nest Wifi - 2 Pack is on sale at Bing Lee. This is $100 off the usual price (25%) and cheapest I've seen. I bought this at Officeworks for another 5% off at $284.05. The secondary wifi point also acts as a Google Nest Mini.

The reason why I bought this was to upgrade my old Google Wifi so that it could handle 1080p desktop mirroring on the Chromecast without buffering/stuttering. The reason why you would want this over a conventional router is if you had a large house or you have 60 smart home devices like me. Most conventional routers (even the $400 ones) can't handle more than 30 devices, you need a modern router like this to be able to handle more.

Nice deal, I paid $399 for mine (RRP).

Has ~50 devices connected, runs like a dream. Only down side is can't adjust things via a PC, must be done via Google Home or Google WiFi app (or BlueStacks, etc). Otherwise it's brilliant.

    • Believe they've completely switched these only to Home App now.

      One less App I guess.

At launch you had to use both, was clumsy, failed in set up despite working too.

      • Nope. I use the Google WiFi app as it's quicker. Home app you have to navigate to WiFi. Both work same way but Home just creates more steps.

  • can this be the main access point for my 3 old google wifis?

    • You can mix and match.

Nest Wifi router and points are also compatible with previous generation Google Wi-Fi devices

    • I am currently using these with Gen1 and they work just fine.

2 pack for $286 at TGG commercial.

    • Not everyone can buy from TGG Commercial, isn't?

  • 'The reason why I bought this was to upgrade my old Google Wifi so that it could handle 1080p desktop mirroring on the Chromecast without buffering/stuttering'

I've used both for an extended period. I doubt they'd make that much of a difference… They claim better coverage but in my experience it's negligible.

    • can the same be said for PS Remote Play?

      • +1

If your coverage is reasonable through the house I can't see how each option will perform differently.

  • Just be aware if you are a power user stay away, doesn't have basics like DDNS, static tables and DMZ…

    • Also can't do VLAN 802.1q.

  • Would this be good for a 2-storey apartment? NBN box is upstairs and want to get a better Wi-Fi connection downstairs. So one unit plugs into my router and another goes downstairs to create the 'mesh'?

    • Hook up the Nest wifi router to the NBN box and put the Nest wifi point downstairs. Who is your ISP?

      • I believe it's FTTP, will that matter? I am with iiNet. I didn't realise it would replace my current router.

        • If it is FTTP then just connect it directly to the NTD.

        • Nah FTTP is great stuff. A potential problem is that some iinet FTTP services are not compatible with Nest wifi and some are compatible. Were you connected to iinet FTTP before or after May 30th 2019?

          • @Twix: After. It’s a brand new apartment that was only connected this year.

How do you determine if it’s compatible or not?

            • @JoKing: The settings list says iinet require VLAN 802.1q for new FTTP services connected after May 30th 2019. Nest wifi doesn't have the settings for VLAN 802.1q and therefor is not compatible. Are you stuck in a iinet contract or willing to change ISP?

              • @Twix: Whaaattt, that is very silly. Nah, I'm on no contract, but they seemed to be decent value.

    • Should be fine

Try placing them directly underneath the other at first if possible.

      • Why is that? Any reason?

        • In my experience a better mesh connection.

Going diagonally through more walls can drop speed

Though I go from ground to top. Unsure how they'll go in the reverse.

  • Any idea if this is better than the deco m5 or m9 mesh system (especially the m5 which is quite reasonably priced on amazon for about 188 for two)

    • I’m after for this question too. I have 3 deco m5 setup as local access points for 06 wireless xiaofang cameras. Deco dropped connection/ping after few seconds.
      Have to return deco.

Both have their pros and cons. Who is your ISP?

      - 2 auto sensing Gigabit Ethernet ports on each Deco M5 for a total of 4 ports.
      - 350sqm range for a 2-pack.
      - WPA2 wifi security & firmware updates less often.
      - Free in-depth parental controls with TP-Link HomeCare.
      - Amazon Alexa integration.
      - VLAN 802.1q support.

      Deco M9
      - Tri band AC2200 4x4 MU-MIMO with 8 internal antennas on each Deco M9.
      - Quad-core processor @ 717MHz & 512MB of RAM.
      - 420sqm range for a 2-pack.
      - Built-in smart hub.
      - The rest is the same as the Deco M5.

      Nest wifi router
      - Dual band AC2200 4x4 MU-MIMO.
      - Quad-core processor @ 1.4GHz & 1GB of RAM.

      - 120sqm range.
      - WPA3 wifi security if your device supports it & firmware updates more often.
      - Free basic parental controls.
      - No VLAN 802.1q support.

      Nest wifi point

      - Built-in Nest Mini with Google Assistant.

  • Is this any good for average gaming ?

    • +1

Gaming Routers aren't really relevant, especially in Australia.

As long as their modern they'll basically do the same.

  • Just got one for me and one for a friend, $284.05 each at Officeworks. Thanks OP.

    • You might have been one of the first ones as they updated the price on their website to $299 so can't do price beat any more :(

      • I expected them to do that, so I went the morning after I saw the post.

Been burned at Bunnings before just because I waited until after lunch for a Nest Mini deal. Their labels were not even updated, and still didn't honour because "the system" already had a new lower price 😒

        • +1

Yeah, Bunnings is the best but their range of products is really small so that doesn't always help. The first thing I did after finding this deal was go on bunnings website and check if they sell this product..haha
