The official Oculus Link headset cable.
USB-c on both ends
It's more expensive than third party cables (take in mind that nowadays you can use any USB 2.0 or 3.0 cable for Oculus Link), but it's a fibre optic rather than a copper cable, making it lighter, thinner and more flexible (and also allows it to be 5m long) compared to other cables.

Oculus Link allows you to connect an Oculus Quest to a gaming PC and use it as a PC VR headset, where games are run on the PC and streamed to the headset.

  • Wish it could be something more reasonable like 10m.

    • Wish I had a room big enough to need a 10m cable!

      • 5m Just gets me to front of desk, but I’m only have SAFELY a 1.5 x 1.5 play space. Smashed my og rift controllers many a time against the ceiling/walls

        • If you need the length,

I had a good experience with my Oculus Quest by daisy chaining this 5m active extension cable and a generic 3m AmazonBasics USB 3.1 cable, for a total of 8m at USB 3.1 speeds.

I also had success adding a USB 2.0 active extender to that mix (monoprice brand) for a total of 11m, however, this was only USB 2.0 speeds.

          • @akaakmdm: Yes did consider - the other thing is I’ve already been spoiled by wireless. Bought a RT-AX86U to improve performance with VD. Completely revolutionised my experience with blade and sorcery, and h3vr

  • wow, didnt even know fibre optic cables like this existed. Dont have VR, but kinda tempted to get one just as a phone charging cable (to use phone while plugged in)…

Pretty outrageous for use as just a charging cable though! lol. If it was half the price, I would get one! :)

    • wut

      • Sending electricity using total internal reflection

        • Yeah, I had a look into it and apparently they still have copper power lines in there, although you wouldn't know it from the product description.

        • I thought my comment was sarcastic enough to let people know you cant use glass to reflect electricity lol

          • @krisspy: It was. Similarly, I don't know why my second post got a response telling me what I already knew.

I prefer to use virtual desktop to play games wirelessly. I only notice the lag if I'm playing a game like Beat Saber and on expert + otherwise it's great! Maybe an option you can take if you don't like cables.

    • Fibre cable provides the most reliable and fastest connection. However +1 with wireless for versatility and cost (~$30 for the app). Cables can get in the way for some games that need you to turn side to side. I'd suggest using 5GHz wifi for faster speed, unless you live in a congested unit block and/or have a couple of walls between you and the router.

  • Expensive but finding long cables that worked (different headset) was a real pain

  • Would I need to have a Usb C port on my motherboard for this to work?

    • -1

Nope, normal USB A at the other end.

      • +2

emmm.. the pictures show two usb c ends?

    • You could use a USB c to USB A adaptor (need to buy it separately) but if you don't have a USB C port, then you're better off buying a generic USB cable and skipping this one.

    • Last couple gens of GPU have had usbc on them. This worked fine for me though oddly I have to plug it in to the PC end each time. It doesn’t seem to like it left in or doesn’t pick it up after reboot or something.

      • I just realized my 2080ti does have a Usb-c shaped slot. Just to clarify, yours only work when you plug it in the motherboard but not when you plug it directly into the GPU?

        • That's the same GPU card I have. I plug it into that USBC.

I don't have USBC on my board - I have a thunderbolt add-on card that has never worked though :/

What I was trying to say was I can't seem to leave the cable plugged in, put the headset away, bring it out and plug it to the other of the cable again end and it "works"… for some reason I have to go under my desk and disconnect and connect it from the USBC on the GPU. Dn't ask l me why, its annoying but haven't used the headset cabled enough to investigate.

          • @Elijha: understood. I probably won't leave a 5m cable in the gpu slot anyway. But if I were to guess why leaving it in does work, I would say it's because the gpu need to receive a signal that a new device has been plugged in to activate virtual link?

            • @leeyeats95: yeah but can't that happen from the other end .. I guess its a flaw in how optical cable work maybe.

This is some Monster Cable level of marketing.

Very happy with my $30 Emisen cables I got from Amazon.

    • It's not though. Optical cable + transponders are always going to be more expensive to make, even if not needed for many cases

      Monster cables are outright BS

      • Fair enough but the end result, VR feed, is the same.

      • I have a suspicion the connection will be tighter and drag less owing to the fact it’s designed for exactly this device and it’s lighter being optical.
Sometimes the connection on the Eisman drops out if I move and I worry about the wearing on the USB-C port.

    • Do you have a link for the cable you bought?

  • My 5m long USB 3 cables work perfectly fine. No reason to buy this.

buy virtual desktop and enjoy wireless oculus link. even TPG bundle wifi modem can do this well.

  • I have given up trying to get a USB3 connection.
My motherboard has USB3 ports, I bought a good quality cable, yet the Oculus software says I have USB2.
I first tried the charging cable it comes with, then bought a Fasgear USB3 cable.
Alyx still runs ok, but I assume it could be better.

FYI the Fasgear cable is not very flexible by comparison, and I notice how much better it is to have a 90 degree connector at the headset end.

    • Same here. Don’t know if Oculus expects a certain speed to determine as USB3. So using Virtual Desktop instead.

  • Bought one and it was a waste of money. I always use Virtual Dekstop
