Take the ban off lobsters and I might think about buying these!

Silly and ignorant comment that only feeds into what the CCP are trying to do.

You should appreciate the ban of lobsters so Australian can enjoy the affordable lobsters this Christmas, i wish the Chinese government ban Aussie lobsters permanently.

Was anybody actually able to buy a “discount “ lobster? Despite all the hype I saw a lot of people asking, and all being told the same thing …”Sorry, we only got 20 and they sold in 10 minutes…” Hmmmm….

  • Anyone tried this? Is it on Par with Global?

    • They're good (I got a block from Costco a couple years ago) but these prices are too high for what they are imo.

Paid $170 for full set W/steak knives and that was great. $400 for a block of Chinese knives is not great.

  • X50Cr15MoV

Very good 'care free' hard stainless steel.
One of my favorite in fact.

    However, not at this price.

Lots of this cost is in the aesthetics.

If you just want good but cheap knives; look at TitanForge on amazon.

    • Haven't as yet had experience with them. Had a look, pricing and reviews look good but one (constructive) design criticism on the the 6" and 10" I looked at.
I don't like when the heel is so close to the handle as can and will hinder sharpening as time goes by as metal wears down bringing the edge closer and closer.
But again, good pricing and your added review is helpful. Also, to date I do not have any experience with Cangshan' knives but have to add, it's not very often that I'm wildly impressed with Chinese knives (made with Chinese 'quality' metals) and I most certainly never advise anyone to get them.

Not saying… better Chinese knives don't exist, just can't say I've been impressed with many thus far. Sure some may sharpen up well… but edge retention is usually yah… nah.
I would like to hear if any others have used Chinese knives that they are impressed with if especially you are as they say 'in the know'. Must say I'm not very pleased about advocating virtually any Chinese products at all given the current political/economical climate.

        Agreed…

        • I appreciate that wolf'. Cheers.
Funny though how some will neg' you and not offer a reason why…
smacks of a generally disgruntled type of soul to me.

I assume you're talking about the paring knives/smaller knives?

You must be grinding off a lot of metal during sharpening to significantly wear down the metal to that point..

MasterScythe talks about TitanForge, which is made by Dalstrong.

According to Burrfection on YouTube (not the ultimate source of knife knowledge, but a good reference point none the less), Dalstrong appears to be a quality knife brand coming out of China.

The TitanForge series is aimed directly against Victorinox Fibrox knives.

I don't like the Cangshan knives either (the grips make it look like expensive tableware but serves no function but.. reflect light?) but please be careful about what comes off as anti-Chinese sentiment in your comments (I do exercise my choice where possible as well, especially for food products that we ingest and that is purely due to higher quality of standards of production seen in other countries vs Made in China food products), and try to back up things with a structured argument rather than just spouting what may or may not be Western media influence that is not controlled by the government seen in China, but there is definitely bias and a degree of influence thanks to the Murdoch Empire

Not saying I'm happy about any politics or anything.. but this is OzBargain, should be discussing the merits of a product rather than judging it entirely based from the country the company resides in

        • Burrfection is a fun channel; you can tell he's genuine, because (unless it cant be sharpened), no knife is "bad" its just fit for purpose or not.

I have the opinion that there are a LOT of fake victorinox out there.

Ive used one that was so sharp it felt medical.

And ive used one, that started that way; but lost its edge in one few-hour session!

At least with Titanforge you're getting a higher carbon steel, and its got nothing to hide at its price point.

In regards to the china thing; its worth looking up each countries "made in" laws.

          For example - German;
A product can be assembled (and even sourced) in china, so long as its headquartered and designed in Germany, its allowed a made in Germany logo.

Not many countries are as strict as AU when it comes to 'country made' claims.

          • @MasterScythe:

I have the opinion that there are a LOT of fake victorinox out there.

They're cheap enough as it is.. why would anyone even bother to fake them?

I just get mine from Peters of Kensington

He doesn't review Misono for some reason..
