[Back Order] Segway Ninebot Max Scooter $669 Delivered @ Scootcity

1311
94F8X8PC

$500 OFF RRP or $260 Cheaper than JB Hi-Fi

It was discounted few days ago at $694 with the $5 off code, the $30 off code got updated and is now working again.

The price is very decent but the backorder waiting period is very long, I was told first batch will arrive in Feb.

If you are not in hurry,at this price I say it worth the waiting, if you can't wait, the discount at JB is not bad for this scooter. I would wait tho.

Mod 14/9/21: OP was a sockpuppet, associated is updated now and relevant ban applied.

Any moves for these to be legal in NSW?

    • Even if they make electric scooters legal, I have a feeling NSW will have a power limit of 200-250W and a lower speed limit making this model illegal. VIC is 200W and 10km/h limit but QLD only has a 25km/h limit.
I read before that NSW will likely adopt lower limits due to more people and less space to ride them safely at speed.

    • Yes. All states agreed to the NTC recommendation. In summary it was a 10km speed limit on footpath and 25km speed limit on road. Updated legislation to be tabled in May 21.

  • I wouldn't risk it, by the time it's delivered probably JB Hi-Fi will have it for the same price or cheaper / newer model

    • +1

The second generation is already out. It has lower range hence why this is still so popular.

Feb is about a little over a month away. JB won’t be offering a price of sub $700 anytime soon, as it is below the staff price.

    • +1

Yeah, newer model has a lower capacity battery with a smaller range, and the motor is the same output/peak output. Even if they were same price I'd probably get the older model.

      • +1

I think the reason the new generation has less capacity is that Gen1 is toooooo heavy, that most people are just not comfortable using such a heavy scooter. That's why the newer model cut the capacity to a more useful distance.

        • Yeah, fair for most. I'm a big bloke, so a few kgs either way means nothing to me. I'm much happier with a bigger capacity battery, but I can see where some would prefer a lighter scooter

  • How do you know the first batch is in Feb?

Also, any idea when people who ordered it at $650 will get theirs delivered? I'm assuming that's when it was not on back order yet?

    • I asked them through live chat on their site. Not sure either, but money is safe if paid through paypal or credit card, I wouldn't worry about that.

  • Is there a comparable model with an electric brake? I find it awkward with my fingers resting on the mechanical brake lever on the handle bar

    • Ninebot E22 or E25 or
Mearth X pro (just an Australian version of the ninebot E25, but has a bigger screen I guess), but the specification are slightly higher than the ninebot E25.
It is debatable which is better, ninebot is a old brand but acquired by a chinese company. Mearth is an Australian brand.

      • Thanks for your reply.. the E45 looks even better!

  • I was one of the lucky few who ordered before they started becoming back orders :) hopefully see it sometime in January

    • envy

    • That’s still not an assurance. Do they send any update about delivery for those who ordered it before ‘the back order’ showing on the page?

      • We will find out sometime in January when then staff get back to the daily grind 🤠

        • I was one of the first to order in that thread and got in early, well before it changed to a backorder. However I got an email last night saying it's backordered and will take 3 months to arrive.

Worse than that it basically says that not all orders will be honored as they received too many and that mine is most likely one of them.

It's looking like this wasn't a real deal to begin with, and since it changed to a backorder on their website it sure as hell isn't a real deal anymore. It's just give them your money and watch it do nothing for a few months while you have to work for a refund.

          • @studentl0an: I haven't received such an email from them , Even so 3 months could be sooner did they let you refund if you want?

            • @Gomo: I was order 35XX, very early. If they are cancelling mine I'd think it's safe to think no one is going to have it honored.

They said 3 months wait but that most likely no one will get it as they had too many orders.

They made no mention of a refund in that email, they did however try to foist a Mearth scooter on me 'for no extra charge'. How generous of them to offer me a scooter that one is buying.

          • @studentl0an: Post a screenshot of the email thanks, minus your personal details.

            • @Repstar: I'd rather not post a screen shot of the email until they reply to my reply to it. I'm still hopeful to get it as I was so quick to order after it the deal was posted that they will send one to me, and not lump me in with all the people who ordered it while it was actually back ordered. I ordered it while it was still in stock and not a backorder.

If you have a look in the other thread more people are now starting get an email too.

              • @studentl0an: Okay thanks. I just submitted my cancellation request. My order number was 37xx, so if your not getting one - I'm not either! Will just wait for a JB deal. They have 14 days to return my money or I'll be opening a paypal dispute.

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered one. Hopefully it won't take too long to come.

  • Messaged them in chat. They said ETA is up to 3 months.
    Offered me this:
    "Here are some options
    1. Switch to Ninebot E22 ($749) - It has a max range of 22 km and a max speed of 20 kph

    1. Switch to Mearth S Pro ($1,099) - With Mearth S Pro’s 32 kph max speed, 32 km max range, faster charging time, higher speed, more advanced front brakes, cruise control feature, and a swappable battery option, this electric scooter will surely leave you nothing but amazed. Feel free to see the brochure attached as your reference. Compared to Ninebot Max, Mearth S Pro is very handy and can be lifted easily. It is also faster, charge faster, more advance front brakes, cruise control feature and swappable battery. Most customers, leave their scooters in a safe place and just carry the battery to charge which is very convenient. I have attached a brochure for your reference.

    2. Switch to Mearth X Pro ($850) - It has 25 km max range, 25 kph max speed, dual suspension (front and rear) ambient lights. I have attached a brochure for your reference.

All these 3 are readily available and can be shipped now. These are free upgrades, meaning you will not pay the price difference."

Have told them I prefer my original order and am happy to wait.

Will update what their reply will be

    EDIT:
Me: "Just want to make sure that the order will not be cancelled or anything. Am happy to wait for stock"

Them: "I won't be cancelled. I have noted our records that you're willing to wait for the stocks"

    • +1

Sounds like this was their plan all along to move their existing stock.
The Mearth scooters dont seem popular and the E22 is not worth it when it will probably be sub $500 on sale.

What are the chances of them getting stock of a model that has been superseeded already? You would think that if they are getting stock, they would be able to get it now as its not like they have to wait for them to be produced.

      • Yeah, seems that way.
I am holding them to their word and will periodically check for updates. I took screenshots of them saying the order will not be cancelled. So if they do, I will be making quite a fuss.
        Fingers crossed all works out

        • How are you going to make a fuss? They will refund your money and cancel your order, fuss over. The only person who will care is you - you can't sue someone for cancelling an order.

          • @bejahi: You make a consumer ombudsman complaint for bait and switch tactics.

They still have it advertised on their website for purchase, but they will email you afterwards to try and sell you a Mearth scooter after you have paid for a Segway Ninebot max.

It's highly illegal and if enough people complain about it, Scoot City might find a big fine coming their way.

            • @studentl0an: Sure, that would be the case if they didn't have it advertised as "backorder".

              • +1

@bejahi: I and many others ordered hours before it changed to be a backorder.

                • @studentl0an: I understand that you ordered before it said backorder, and that does suck. But it sounds like they actually did have some stock at that point so I hope you get a successful resolution. And changing it to back order within "hours" of it going out of stock will not be seen as a bait and switch tactic by any magistrate or authority - it will be seen as reasonable.

Also you're the only person who has been told it is on back order when you ordered prior to it going out of stock - no one else has claimed that yet.

Don't mean to be a jerk here but people who were ordering a product on back order, then making completely incorrect claims about bait and switch laws, need a reality check. There was no bait and switch, the vendor said it was out of stock and made no claims as to delivery dates.

                  • @bejahi: I think a reasonable person would see the mass emails trying to sell a different scooter than what people paid for differently than how you view it.

There are others who have got the email after purchasing while in stock, I am not the only one. Look further down this page and you will see users complain they were very fast to order but still got the 3 month wait email.

The one person who said they got the scooter was a brand new account, and they only got it when they walked into the store. Not a single person mentioned they have a shipping notification.

For what it's worth I haven't made any complaints other than on this forum and I'm still hopeful it might be resolved well. The reason I negged this deal was a complaint in the back order taking 3 months with a good chance you still won't get one as they wrote to me they can't order enough, it's not a real deal.

      • I guess I will go for the Mearth S pro, I already have one ninebot max, will pick up today and let you guys know if this is worth the price tag '$1099'

        • Probably not given it’s even $899 at Catch and Kogan.

        • I'd say to get a refund instead. Normal price is not $1099. Even pushys, kogan are $899.

It has a 360Wh battery and claims 45km range which is smaller than others but the same range so they must be running slower to make the 45km.

Find out how to remove the 25km/h speed limit on the Mearth first to make it 32km/hr as they claim. Its 25km/h out of the box

          • @8azinga: Speed is not my thing, I wouldn't go more than 25kph on my ninebot max anyway, it is very fast on a scooter.
Yes, I noticed it is cheaper at pushy and Kogan at $899 but still more than what I paid for so I think that is still a good offer. They won't sell the Mearh Spro at $669 directly, nowhere does.
And since many big guys eg Kogan Pushy catch has that for $899 I would say it is worth a shot. I will try the Mearth S pro and let you guys know if it worth it.

        • You need 3 scooters? isnt the warehouse closed until january?

  • For the scooters that come with an additional battery, can you take that off to reduce the weight of the scooter and just leave the charged battery at the office or wherever and then only use it when your scooter is low on it's internal battery or if you need the extra range?

    • If you are referring to Ninebot E22 E25 external battery, No you can't.
But Mearth S Pro (what they offered) seems possible, I noticed this the only scooter has a hot swappable battery.
Which means I can leave the scooter locked at ground floor and just bring the relatively small battery into the office and charge it. So free charging every day. I can't do that with my ninebot Max, it is a little embarrassing to bring such a heavy scooter in and charge it. But with just the battery that is discrete enough to sit on my desk.

      • Thanks, sounds like you know your scooters! Also looks like having the extra battery attached not only gives you extra range, but also higher top speed and higher slope incline which is interesting (at least on the ninebot E25/E45 scooters) So I assume this would be the same with the Mearth scooters too?

        • Not sure about that, I guess yes cause they look similar.

  • +3

OP, just wondering how you got the code for this? The subscription email still gives the scootcity30off code.
You only joined on 25/12/20 and have only commented on the 3 scootcity deals as well.

    • -6

Just email them mate, they are opened today and tmr. There is another guy from the other post claimed picked up the ninebot max today and he registered today few hours ago.
I suggest you go question him too.

  • I'm not sure about other credit cards, but my ANZ credit card purchase insurance is only valid for 90 days so if not delivered in that time I need to make a claim before it expires

    • +1

My Coles Platinum has the same cover so if I don't get it within 90 days I will be cancelling and getting my money back.
What I don't understand is why reissue the offer if they are struggling to meet the demand for the Christmas eve deal!

      • Seems a bit suspicious. Maybe free SEO? Drive traffic to the website and boost the page ranking in Google? With multiple links now from this website and all the traffic they'll have jumped up the rankings for sure.

      • +3

There is something sus. Seems like a way to get rid of mearth stock.

  • Not a genuine deal

  • +4

Agreed, not a genuine deal. I ordered mine less than 10 minutes after the original post came up and before the coupon was made public. I still got the 3 month back order email. Sounds like a bait and switch to get people to order their unpopular mearth models.

Also not sure how they're going to find 100s of scooters for a model that has been superceded.

  • +4

Can we please ban scootcity from ozbargain?

Please review this scammy C*** here

    https://au.trustpilot.com/review/scootcity.com.au

      • You've commented of four deals, 3 of those being for scoot city and only joined a week or so ago. Dodgy.

  • +1

Scootcity is bloody hopeless. They don't respond to emails nor their contact number just goes to their voicemail no matter what time of the day i tried to get in contact with them.

  • Anyone have an insight if the mearth s pro is superior or equivalent to segway ninebot max?

    • I was gonna pick up the Spro which they offered, didn't have time yesterday. I might go there today. Will keep updates here.

Btw I wouldn't think it will be superior, they have different feature and obviously the MAX has a higher RRP, so for best, I think the Spro might at best be a good substitution.

    • From what i have found, Mearth S pro will only have a range of around 25km when using sport mode. Segway Max should have a range of about 40+km in sport mode.
Mearth struggles up hills of 10-15% and was faster to walk as mentioned in this video at 4:20min https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oKMYLAUzPfc
Front wheel drive on mearth vs rear drive of segway. Rear drive is meant to be better but in most situations, it wont be noticeable
      Mearth is lighter
Possibly nowhere to run a lock through Mearth if you plan on leaving it outside a shop. Segway comes with a lock.
Brakes are different. Apparently disc brake on mearth requires more maintenance than what is on the segway. Was mentioned when comparing Segway Max to Xiaomi M365
Mearth battery 360Wh vs Segway 551Wh

      The benefits of Mearth
The battery is removable and can be charged off the scooter
Its lighter but that might mean the frame isnt as strong. Part of the weight is due to the smaller battery but not all.
Better ground clearance but having the battery is the base like segway is better for handling though.
32kph when de-restricted vs 30kph of segway. The faster you go, the less range you have though.

      • This is a good and fair comparison mate. I picked up mine today, there were 2 other guys there at the same time picked up their Ninebot max which broke my heart. I had a glimpse they had about 20 ish ninebot max labelled and to be sent in their mail room.

I asked if I can pay a $100 extra to get the Ninebot max, but they rejected. so I still got the Mearth S Pro instead. Also one of their staff said they have limited amount of Mearth S Pro can be offered as replacement.

So here is my thought on the Mearth S Pro Day 1:
The weight is much lighter, I can easily lift it up compared to my Ninebot Max. The riding experience is similar, the Disc brake on the Mearth S Pro feels better. And the Max's centre of gravity is lower which feels better, on the other hand, overall riding experience is similar.

I don't have the time to have a super long ride yet, I rode about 15km on the Mearth S Pro and still have 3 bars out of 5 left, so distance is quite assuring. Will update more on distance when I have the chance to have a longer ride this weekend.

Last thing to mention is its removable battery, the design is just brilliant, I can literally charge it anywhere I want for free, Yum.

  • Just got off chatting with scootcity, trying to reach some middle ground, but did not work out and am canceling my order.
What really pushed me to this decision was, when asking what stock they eaven have, was this reply

"I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience it caused. I will have our Site department to up the available of the scooters. The remaining stocks we have is the Segway E22 and the Mearth S Pro and X Pro. Some models are tough to source nowadays due to the pandemic."

So all they have in stock at the moment is the same 3 scooters they offered us as "options"

Not happy, and safe to say, I will not be purchasing from them in future

  • +1

    Copy of email:

We would like to offer the following options at no additional cost on your end. Please note that we are exerting efforts in finding all possible solutions to provide you the best outcome.

    1. Ninebot E22 ($749) - It has a max range of 22 km and a max speed of 20 kph.
    2. Mearth S Pro ($1,099) - With Mearth S Pro’s 32 kph max speed, 32 km max range, faster charging time, higher speed, more advanced front brakes, cruise control feature, and a swappable battery option, this electric scooter will surely leave you nothing but amazed. Not giving the buyer a Segway Max unless he also took his 2nd order as a Mearth.

  • Ordered Xmas Eve - order number 360X

It’s been a week and not one reply after making multiple attempts.

Yes, there were a few public holidays however the Facebook page said they was a rep available all days except the public holidays

  • +2

I was able to discuss the ETA status of my order on the online webchat was told it will be 3months till the new batch arrives and then dispatched to me. I am not happy to wait so have requested for refund. They have offered other replacement models which are available right now.

But after some consideration I've requested to have my funds refunded which they have passed onto Accounts to process will take 5-10business days to process cancellation and refund back to your account, so I'm going to wait and check for the refund in due course.

  • Refunded via. Paypal

  • Refund cleared.

  • +4

Not a deal. Company are baiting and switching.

  • Still waiting on my refund and they are not responsive after attempting the bait and switch :(
I ordered when the item was still "in stock".
I'd really prefer not to go through the PayPal dispute process.

    • +1

First stage of PayPal dispute is simply asking for a refund via PayPal, which they can action by just agreeing. If they don’t action it within their agreed 10 business days you can escalate it without having to wait longer.

      • Thanks, I didn't realise. I just opened a dispute.

        • +1

Just remember if needed to escalate it before the dispute expires, but do give them time to respond. If you don’t escalate it will just close and you can’t normally dispute again.

    • Refund processed via PayPal.

  • +2

Still waiting for my refund 7 days later no response i have now opened a PayPal Case. ScootCity needs to be banned from ozbargain bait and switch scam tactics are not acceptable.

    • +1

They didn’t reply to 1 of my emails or voicemail messages.

I’ve also opened up a case with PayPal.

      • Me too. Hopefully due to the number of cases PayPal will take action sooner. There's no excuse for having to wait so long to get our money back.

  • +1

Don't forget to open your paypal case and get your money back.

  • I ordered and paid for mine $620 on 24/12/20 before price increased and varied 4 times and backorder was added to the listing.

No contact at all from scoot city as at 4/1/21.

    • Yep same boat, no communications from them either, I haven't sent anything to them I was hoping I just received it if not I'm happy to wait

      • I was thinking the same thing. order number 36xx. went onto chat today to find out and they apologised for the "confusion" which I pointed out I am not confused, I simply ordered and paid for a product they offered for sale. They offered the alternative models, despite me asking up front to not be offered any substitute. I offered to turn up to their store to collect, which they replied that wont work as this is only a "non affiliated store" eventually told 2 months wait for my order.
I am torn between waiting and the risk of losing my money and no scooter.

An estimate of 300 units sold on 24/12 alone would be $200K they are sitting on or paying other debts for months. There is a risk as with any business that they may go into administration or simply fail with all of our money.

        • +1

I paid with afterpay so my purchase isn't exactly tied up , I believe they will come to the party it's just going to take time , I'm just waiting which I'm patient to do because most others on here will be wanting refunds which is understandable.

I'm order #36xx too so I'm pretty close to when you ordered but I haven't received any communication from them apart from my status on the order page says processing.

          • @Gomo: I'm in a similar boat #36xx order, no comms received but online chat confirmed delay and offering alternatives. Ended up purchasing one from JB for $80 more, still have the SC order in but may cancel if it takes too long. Payed with PP so will use buyer protection if needed. I'd say Chinese new year holiday will delay manufacturing over Jan but stonks should pickup Feb if this deal is indeed legit.

            • @BargainKen: Hi Bargainken, assuming you paid $620 with scoot city before they changed the price, are you saying the jb sold one for $700. Thanks

            • @BargainKen: I received the email that everyone else has received, I've decided to wait this one out 2 months does seem like a long time but I can wait I was never in a rush to receive one either it was just an impulse buy really

        • Gg my order number #37XX lol zzzz

          • @Mypally: you waiting?

            • @Gomo: Yeah waiting …
they emailed me offering other scooters too
But if wait the next shipment will be in 2 months time.
Plus that shipment might not be enough to fill all the orders.
I’m like why still take ppls money/order when u can’t provide the scooters?

Anywaysss I’m hoping I’ll get one for the next shipment….

  • what is the latest before we can opt for a refund?

  • -4

I have to say they are good with the refunds and when requested they processed it quickly. I think they messed up when they did the promo and should have really seen that getting it posted on here may outstrip demand. I believe they genuinely tried to meet peoples expatations by offering alternatives and if like me people were not keen on the alternatives offered they have refunded quickly.

Lesson learned i reckon but good on them for dealing with it in the right way.

    • +3

Have you even read the comments? People can't even get a response from them or they have requested refunds 5 times and they are still waiting for the refund.
One person was offered a segway only if they took a mearth as their 2nd scooter but they were denied just taking the segway and a refund for the 2nd scooter.

I would not call that dealing with it the right way.

      • -1

Well I can only answer for myself and my experience. I've also read other people getting their refunds so to me it seems like some people are getting their money back.

    • +1

I sent 5 emails and left 6 voicemail messages.

I was only contacted 13 days after 1st reaching out to SC

      Don’t agree with your assessment

    • a fair alternative not offered would have been the segway gen 2 which has the same RRP as gen 1 and is the closest offering. They have them in stock yet chose not to do that.

      • lol… you mean G30L … its not a gen 2 its another model with many differences. Would be no good as a substitute for many people given its physically smaller, shorter and very different.

  • Found this post on their insta, the supposed stocks of the max they had

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CJfBB8clS9d/

Maybe that's all they intended on selling? Time will tell.
