Is there any issue re: charging "garmin gps sports watch" being UK version or is it battery operated?

They come with UK Wall USB Charger but you can charge them via the supplied USB cable from your computer or use the USB cable into an AU style Wall USB Charger.
i.e. the charger supplied is just a plug in unit with a USB socket.

EDIT: This offer is actually open for another 15 hours (closes 9am GMT). Been looking for a good light hiking/commuting pack and ended up getting the Deuter Speed Lite 20L for around $40 delivered. Kathmandu are having a half price sale on packs but this was $10 cheaper than there equivalent and I imagine is much higher quality.
