realme 6 128/8GB in White or Blue, $319.20 (32% off) @ JB Hi-Fi

700

These are on sale for what I believe is the lowest price for AU stock

(long time lurker, first time poster)

Decent specs with a Mediatek chipset

  • Android 10, Big battery (4,300 mAh), nice 90hz screen that doesn't blur, 3.5mm headphone jack, triple SIM tray (2 sims + MicroSD), USB-C, Fast charge, plastic back (cracks instead of shattering) Good main Samsung 64 MP camera) also has wide-angle (of average quality)

Negatives: loudspeaker underwhelming, - "macro" camera is terrible, - Custom Android OS has some oddities

Mediatek chipset phones have an engineering mode (web-search it):
Can be "band locked" for more reliable 4G coverage (no dropping back to slooow 3G)
Also has a headphone jack with decent output, which can be boosted in the engineering menu to make output rather loud.

Hmmm don't know much about realme but that helio is worse than a 730G… More RAM than moto i think id go with moto to be honest.

    • where is this moto everyone keeps referencing?

  • +1

    this vs moto camera?

  • +1

I have not seen any community support for MediaTek, would avoid.

    • +1

Yeh its beaten in every category by the 730G including battery which is the biggest discrepancy between the two processors. Id go moto tbh.

    • +1

      MediaTek user. I support it

      • +1

I meant no support from the development community, no custom ROMs etc.

        • Agreed, not an ideal "modders phone" but it would be nice to just have root on vanilla rom (adaway / delete useless Google apps mainly)

Main benefit is the screen, (the smearing on movement on most phones is horrible) and being able to tweak the network and headphone sound (using the Engmode)

Alternatives are the Xioami POCO and Nokia's as mentioned for better community ROM support. I read somewhere that the Xiaomi has a better processor and Sony camera sensor.

This is the best budget phone with a 90hz refresh rate

  • So you can't root these?

      Just add some lube.

The bootloader can be unlocked (using Deep Test APK) That part works, but holding up and power doesn't boot into fastboot like it typically does with Android devices.

I can use a command to reboot fastboot, but if the bootloader img reflash fails, then I have no way to reboot back into fastboot to recover it.
