  • What are peoples thoughts on these units?

    Cheers

Needs to be hard wired, so that turns it Into a somewhat more serious project. One consideration for the outdoor units is that you need to make sure there is a hub or another Hue device within ‘talking’ distance so that the mesh network will work.

Aside from that, I have the low voltage (not hard wired) Calla outdoor pedestals, and the build quality seems quite excellent. We have a lot of Hue lights, and they work very well for the most part and don’t flood my Wi-Fi.

      • I prefer the Calla look to be honest. When you say not hard wired.. are you referring to solar?

Not really sure what else to put in the garden, everything i see is built really poorly.

        Cheers

        • Hard wired because it's 240v - get an electrician to do the job and follow any rules about cable depth etc.. install price will get you on this one.

The calla are low voltage and you can install them yourself - you can also get t-connectors, extensions and other hue low voltage lights on same circuit.

          • @Radar: Unfortunately the Calla price is far from best atm. They are nicely built though, and ours work nicely.

Just wait for a good price on them.

        • Found the Calla at $79 at bunnings the other day but I'm not sure if it would look weird on its own also not sure how to power it. Don't have an outlet in the garden.

Where do you (and others) have it?

          • @Applause: Which bunnings? Receipt? Cheers

            • @Daves88: I didn't buy because of my thoughts above. It's at Bellambi. I'll be going back on Sunday though. Took a picture of the card though.

            • @Daves88: It is marked down to $79 in every Bunnings I have been to lately, it is just whether you can find any stock left. I have picked up 3 and a starter set (bridge+2 bulbs) for $30 from Target. Very happy with it.

    • Love them. Had them installed a few months ago and they look lovely and give off more light than I need.

    Only ip44 doesn’t seem great.

Have two of these. Water gets in to the white cover are. Dried Water beeding shows underneath the cover. Leaves a stain as it sits under a tree and the trees sap or whatever level the discolour inside…. Still works though

    • Calla is IP65 if you prefer that.

i don't really see the point of these, you have to hard wire it anyway why not just get what ever bollard set you want then have that plug into a smart plug. But it is cheap for Hue so gets a tick as a bargain.

  • Its actually been cheaper if you see previous posts.

  • Installation cost kills it.
