8inch. Too small, recommend 10inch min, 12inch more desirable. Frequency response on these smaller subs just isn't enough.

  • Ehhh, for 600 I'll take it. Not going to be too loud with this anyway

  • Are these for music or AV? Most subwoofers I've heard sound terrible. Totally distorted. I'd like something with good sound. I don't care about the power. Less is more. Any suggestions? This? I'm a big KEF fan, usually.

It is recommended for music. I have read some feedback online saying it does very well.
But feedback on this KEF Kube is hard to find.

I guess those who want earthquake 20hz SPL bass will go with expensive ported SVS subwoofer (which is recommended for Home Cinema).

sealed for music, ported for movies.

Not sure if you've been listening to no name subs or xplods. Yamaha makes some decent subs for the price, SVS if you want to absolutely destroy your house.

      • Sealed for music 🤦 I'd say ported also

        • Each to their own.
Generally ported is preferred due to faster dynamics and the low end not overpowering the music with port noise. Its all hard kicks.

But ported also works with your Maximum bass cd's

    • KEF definitely favours music.

Their subs aren't highly regarded, generally very overpriced. Had an earlier myself. However, it's still musically nice. Just don't expect earth shaking movies.

    • I have this sub at my desk for mainly music, have it paired with the KEF Q150, connected to my computer via an USB amp.
The sub sounds pretty crisp to me, compared to other subs I have around the house. It doesn't give you the feel that is required for movies (e.g. the VAF DC-S in my theatre room), but sounds nice with music. When I play THX bass test songs it rattles the room (4x4metre), more so than the Logitech Z-2300 THX that this system replaced. It is also nice and small, and tucks away under the desk.

  • 34Hz? ☹️

    • +2

      50Hz. 60 Hz even more.

My xiaomi does 144hz, c'mon now

    • +3

34 hz is at -6db, so yeah 50hz probably about right. Don't know why people bother with these toy subs, you're better off putting it towards speakers or saving up for a real sub that can get down to 20hz.

  • I bought a kef subwoofer mainly because it was white however it is crap compared to my 2nd hand Richter Krakatoa. Going to buy another Richter

  • is the kef atmos module better than other ceiling bounce atmos module out there? I'm looking at a good deal as my Denon x3600 AVR supports atmos

  • I'm after a music sub, for my desktop PC, to go with kanto yu6. Everyone seems to suggest go with 10 or 12 inch, but really, I'm not cranking the volume necessarily to huge levels. I'm also a student, and the idea of spending a grand on a sub seems excessive, but I do need a sub for these speakers.

Given the sub will be right under my feet, rather than across the room, will this suffice? Is the larger inch a question of output sound levels or quality? I do question whether those suggesting 12 inch are using it for home audio or cranking it up that the neighbours would hear?

Any suggestions? Audio seems to be incredibly overpriced in Australia.

    • Don't buy one. Those speakers are plenty for desktop.

They also don't go low enough to cross the sub over properly without being able to hear that it's coming from your feet which means music is going to sound awful.

If all you want is rumble then any sub will do.
