Bad Driving Caught on Xiaomi 70mai Dashcam

Every now and then I'll see some super low prices for the Xiaomi 70mai dashcam.

If you are thinking about buying them, they're superb units for the price you pay which is anywhere from $35 to just under $70 from memory (happy to be corrected.)

YouTube link so you can judge the video quality for yourself. Mute the video if you are not a fan of swear words.

If anyone knows of a Suzuki running around with [1SD-2AT] plates, please feel free to forward this video to the driver so that she may reflect on her lack of self awareness and how that may negatively impact her and other drivers around her on future trips.

        • The white ute? Lol.

        • +1

Post the forum link then, otherwise you are in contempt of OZB court.

I know the footage doesn't exist, because the lady in the ute was a good 5 car lengths away.

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: Are you related to Donald Trump?

            • @jv: Lmao, just as dumb as the female commandeering the suicide swift today.

        • +4

Yeah looks like the 79' series was tailgating the Suzuki. At the 0:16s mark, I'd say that would be 1 car length. Well, one 79 or two Suzuki's.

        • She wouldn't have realised, what with being busy on her phone call and all…

        • Which other site?

  • +6

    +1 for the Youtube title

  • +2

what is this Dashcams Bad Driver Ozbargain? :)

  • +3

I was impressed by how much the OP was holding back on their swearing. Why not say what you really feel?

  • +2

Which one is the gentleman please?

    • +4

Next time I'll remember when I'm doing a spot of evasive driving to just tip my fedora and say "pip pip tally ho" instead of swearing.

  • +2

    serious question,
if OP had veered (not was pushed) into the concrete barrier on the left as he was essentially being sandwiched

would the insurance claim be his fault or the suzukis?

    • +1

      I also wonder this.

    • +3

As sucky as it may sound, afaik for insurance purposes, it's better to be hit, than to dodge and hit something else. If you're going to dodge, make sure you dodge everything and not cause any damage, otherwise, don't veer (can be more dangerous in some situations) and just brake safely. Obviously do what you can to minimise the damage though if you get hit.

    • His fault, been there done that unfortunately.

  • +4

OP is correct, in his words the 'dumb (profanity)' in the Suzuki should have had their (profanity) eyes on the road.

  • +3

You're 100% in the right, but as a precaution whenever I merge I usually stay a car length or two away for a few moments if I notice the driver next to me is going slower than I am, it gives them a chance to see that I'm there and you get to avoid any of these situations happening. Even though you're in the right unfortunately there are a lot of drivers who don't bother checking their mirrors or head checking when changing lanes.

  • +4

This is worth a post? Driver made a mistake, no accident, no harm, new underwear all round. I have made mistakes in forty years of driving, some I even got away with, life’s short, your not perfect, good picture from dashcam though.move along…..safely

    • -2

To be fair, I was just rapt with the quality of the picture at that price point.

Upon reading this thread though, I am shocked at the amount of people who don't know diddly squat about the rules of the road.

  • Could you post a screen capture? Is it good enough quality to pull the plates from a still?

    • +1

Ill try and message you through a picture.

  • +6

When you merge and end up in someone’s blind spot you are asking for trouble.

    • -6

      Lay off the drugs man.

      • +3

        Someone a tad defensive?

        • -3

          As above.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Both drivers screwed up. I’m assuming you were the potty mouth (went back with sound on) with the dash cam who couldn’t calm down and got all road ragey after someone else made a mistake.

        • +3

If only he was as defensive about his driving! :P

          • -1

@dvsbastard: You shouldn't need to drive defensively if you're doing the speed limit in the left lane.

What you saw was the perfect example of evasive driving.

I hope when her dad sees this footage he sends a thankyou for me saving him from paying her insurance excess.

  • +6

Yes the driver should have checked her blind spot and it’s bad driving on her part. The title of your video though is overly dramatic: “commandeered by suicidal female almost massacres innocent gentleman”

Is this the first time you’ve been cut off driving?

    • +1

      To answer your question, no.

Please leave a like and subscribe for more overly dramatic titles.

      • +2

Done. I would also be interested in a newsletter for a nominal subscription fee.

  • +1

    Is this an advert?

    • For what?

      • Ozbargain are now trialing TAC commercials for feedback to see if they are worthy of the big screen.

        • -1

Wouldn't even gain traction after reading some of the mental giants insights in this thread.

  • Not great - the Suzuki driver should have head checked, but probably not worth the hassle of uploading for the purpose of shaming…

Whilst not at fault, the driver with dashcam could work on his road positioning too… sometimes speeding up to a visible spot after an entry isn’t a bad thing.

    • +1

No I like the idea of shaming.

We need a public register of this where people can actually search for a person/rego to see if they have been like this.

      • Might as well copy the database from you local roads authority.

  • +1

The video quality is poor, even a cheap inca action Camera shoots better.

    • +1

Yeah, if anything this is just an ad to say, don't buy this camera.. my Viofo A119v2 shoots much better than this, it was about $100 and has GPS module… Worth the extra few quid IMO.

  • +3

    Ads are getting smarter

  • If you're in NSW - https://www.facebook.com/nswpoliceforce/photos/a.39520884618…

NSW Police and Crime Stoppers NSW are calling on road users to report drink, drug, dangerous and distracted driving on roads across the state as part of a new safety campaign.

The campaign is focused on enlisting the community’s help to crack down on the Four Ds to prevent crashes and keep loved ones safe.

Assistant Commissioner Webb has highlighted some ways road users can report the Four Ds without jeopardising their own safety or breaking the law:
    - Use a passenger to record the time of the incident and the registration of the driver’s vehicle.
    - If possible, keep dashcam vision of the incident and provide it to Crime Stoppers or police.
    - If it’s an emergency – where there is a threat to life or someone’s safety – please call Triple Zero (000) through a passenger, hands-free, or pull over somewhere safe.
    - If it’s not an emergency, contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

  • +1

I own one and so far can't fault it really after 1 yrs ownership.. the app is slightly shit but really everything you need is there and works.

  • +4

Is it normal to overtake on the left?

    • -1

Lmao, who was overtaking on left?

      • +6

You were about to overtake on the left until you got squished.

        • -1

I was doing 80km/h the whole way as per signage on the road.

          • @[Deactivated]: That's a limit rather than a target. You drive to the conditions up to a limit of 80 rather than driving at 80 regardless of the conditions.

  • +3

Looks like OP was half asleep as well.

The Suzuki is of course at fault, but you really gotta drive more defensively man.

  • Here's mine,
Red Ford moves into me to avoid blue Honda. brilliant effort. https://youtu.be/3T9ZE5SrGQo
    and I was doing 70 !

    • +1

Same, indicator on for 0.2 seconds, no headcheck and forces themselves into the lane.

"YoU HaVe To DrIvE MoRe DeFeNsIvElY"

  • +5

The other driver is at fault but there's enough time to slow down after seeing her indicate and merging. Your reaction time is not fast enough OP

    • If she did her head check she would have seen that she had to give way to me and not taken the lane.

      • +5

Yes, hence I said she's at fault. But you could brake sooner than that and avoid the dangerous situation for yourself

        • -2

          1.) Moved to the left
          2.) Hit the horn
3.) Checked mirror and hit brakes to create space

10/10 on the dashcam owners part.

  • +1

    "Innocent gentleman" - LOL

  • +6

Suzuki swift [xxx-xxx] commandeered by suicidal female almost massacres innocent gentleman.

A more fitting title would be,
Aggro driver hangs around blind spot and doesn't back off

  • +2

You are overracting mate, it happens everyday on the road. The driver wasn't doing the right thing but you were overracting espacially by overtaking her etc…causing road rage in some circumsyance. Plus I ma not sure you were right to publicly display her plate number, I would suggest you remove this video for your own protection.

    • Holy smokes, wait until you see dashcam Australia's YouTube channel.

  • +5

Wow, what a sh1tload of dumb &/or arrogant drivers there are on the road going by the responses in this thread
The arrogance of the Suzuki driver to keep moving across while the horn is being held down. A considerate driver thinks “oh sh1t”, swerves back into their lane & holds up their hand as an apology as the other driver goes past

  • +2

Australia has become a drivers licence laundering place for the third world, things like this are not unusual in Melbourne. Was this the case in this situation? Who knows

If you were on a motorbike, you'd be a hair pizza right now.

At least he/she merged slowly (which is always a good move - drivers, take note)

They should have indicated EARLIER though, let it flash a few times THEN move, NOT as you move

Add to this drivers without headlights at night - they're everywhere

    • I'd agree that this isn't uncommon. It's been worse post lockdown though.

  • Merged from "YoU NeEd To DrIvE MoRe DeFeNsIvElY"

I've enjoyed my time on my other thread.

    https://youtu.be/3T9ZE5SrGQo

Here is another video of another terrible driver who also does not possess the skill set required to safely change lanes.

    • Having problems with the shift key?

      • +1

I cannot articulate a mocking tone over the internet, so this will have to do.

  • what model is the 70mai dashcam please?

    • Xiaomi 70mai 1s

  • 10/10 commentary.

  • +2

Bad driving caught on Xiaomi 70mai dashcam.
My uncle won't stop kissing me on the lips.

Every now and then I'll see some super low prices for the Xiaomi 70mai dashcam.
I keep telling him my lips are for my dad only but he won't stop forcing his lips onto mine.

If you are thinking about buying them, they're superb units for the price you pay which is anywhere from $35 to just under $70 from memory (happy to be corrected.)
How do I break it to my uncle that I'm not a fan of kissing him on the lips?

    What happened here?

    • I thought someone spiked my drink!

    • hopefully no tongue

    • The worst piece driving to come out of this is the ride we've all been taken on by this troll

  • You sure sound like a gentleman, OP.

  • Did you brake check her? Seems like you went around and slowed down deliberately. Crappy driving all around.

  • Suzuki driver was in the wrong. Nevertheless OP is a super shit driver for putting himself in that position. You're pretty much asking for it to happen by hovering around a blind spot after merging in a lane. Either speed up or slow down, rather than blindly follow the speed limit and pray to god that everyone does a head check 100% of the time.
