Wow, that's interesting.
My Gen 1 700 for the X1 had extremely poor connection. So much so that I was able to convince them to give me a full refund. I sent it back and put in a pre-order for the Gen 2 on Amazon (they were selling them at A$190).
I never used bluetooth and I have too many wifi networks and won't be able to set them all to channel 1. I did disable the 5Ghz channels though, but that didn't help.
All my previous TB headsets that came with a base station worked fine, and I liked them all. I believe there is an issue with the X1 console itself, or the software running on the X1 that is causing the connection issues, but there's nothing I can do about that.
TB told me that Gen 2 have wider frequency response, hopefully that will solve the connection issue.
I pre-ordered back in 1st of Nov. Amazon has Gen 2 listed as releasing on 18/12/20, although at one point they were listing it as 31/12/20. I have contacted TB and they said there have been shipping issues. I have no idea when it will be released here in Aus…
JB Hi-Fi & EB Games also have release date for this Friday 18/12, so that's likely to be the official AUS release? and City of Games only listed this on Ebay this morning so my assumption would be that stock is arriving for Friday release?
Yes, I hope it'll ship 18 Dec. When I pre-ordered it was supposed to ship mid Nov, only like a week or so after the order. Now I've been stuck using my backup headset for a month and a half. (an old TB headset…)
I have zero connection issues with my Xbox Stealth 700s. The only thing that is slightly disappointing is the range; you have to be in the same room. Sound wise they are great. Aesthetically and in terms of build quality, not so much. Looks like Gen 2 has addressed these issues.
I've watched some reviews. The mic quality isn't great. And that's in a quiet room. I don't know if these will be good if I connect it to my phone and take calls on the street.
I'm looking for a pair of good headphones with Bluetooth that don't have a boom that sticks out. Mostly for work and commute, and not for gaming. This fits the bill, but if the mic is bad, I'll have to look elsewhere.
The common criticism is that it's super sensitive and can pick up a fair amount of background noise so in your use case probably wouldn't suite a noisy workplace or commuting. Have you thought about some Sony XM3's which would be great for commutes with noise cancellation (and regularly around $200-$250) or maybe Airpods/Airpods Pro for better mic quality?
The thing is, gaming headsets have really easy controls. Like a volume wheel for example. Simple and precise. Want to mute yourself, press a button, or in the case of this Stealth 700, flip the boom up.
I've got the Steel Series Arctis 3, and while great for all that, it doesn't block out sound all that well. Still on the hunt for the ultimate gaming/urban (for lack of a better term) headphones.
EDIT: I know I'm being picky. It's very specific. I wish I could design my own stuff and build it. Anybody want to start a company with me? I've got no money, but I've got ideas. Okay… not so much "ideas". More like "demands".
Given the mentioned connectivity issues, can anyone suggest a better wireless headset (would only be used with XB1X) for around the $200 mark? I normally play single-player campaigns but am looking to get more into multiplayer so figure something with a game/chat mixer would be useful.
I have the gen1 Xbox and PS4 versions of the Stealth 700, and they have massive connection issues unless I set my 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi to channel 1, and turn off Bluetooth on the headsets.
From what I've seen on Reddit, it sounds like the gen 2 models have similar problems.
My son's gen 1 Stealth 600s don't have any issues, regardless of our Wi-Fi setup.
Your milage may vary, but I wouldn't recommend these unless you have control over your Wi-Fi channels.
I can't speak for the gen 2 versions, but the gen 1 Stealth 700s sound awesome for games and movies. They have clear deep bass without muddy low-mids.
