    And I have a B550i gathering dust while I wait forever a 5900X… sigh

    • +2

      I know that feel…

    • why not pair with a 3000 series cpu for the time being like i did…

      • Can’t decide as it seems the 3900X is performing the same as the 5800X
The 3950X seems to perform same as 5900X.

New architecture is so much better performance.

I’d rather get the 5900X as it’s a step above the 8 cores of the next gen consoles.

Additionally better to have more cores to handle steam link remote play.

      • I’m tempted.. but then the build still needs a GPU, so I’ll be waiting MAX(GPU, CPU) to use it
$1500 for the RTX3080 is a bit unappealing when it’s retail is like $1200- ish

        • I'd personally argue to go with 5800x or even 5600x than 5900x, as in you'd only have a single CCD/CCX, there will be no inter-core communication at all which means less latency in gaming scenarios. The 5900x only make sense if you ever run out of 8 core 16 threads, there isn't much game that does that.

Also as for future proof, before you need to use 12 core for gaming, it is much more likely you don't have enough single threaded performance first.

ALSO 5900x is more annoying to cool than a 5800x/5600x, especially you are using ITX.

          • @OMGJL: Good points.
I’ve bought a Cryorig H7 for ITX, but yeah it might be a moot point. Even with using steam remote play or VR.

          • @OMGJL: Im not sure exactly what you're looking at but isnt the 5900x the single best (outside 5950) CPU for both single threaded performance AND multithreaded performance?

If you want to talk performance per $ then thats a different story.

            • +1

@wackedupwacko: How Ryzen works is they have a IO die which handles everything except actual calculation (PCIe Bus, Memory controller, some USB/SATA ports etc)

The actual calculation core is called Core complex die (CCD). Till today AMD can only design a 8 core CCD, so in order to make 3950x/3900x/5900x/5950x and all the thread rippers, they'd need to use 2 CCDs.

              So a 5900x is effectively [IOD <-> (6core CCD + 6 Core CCD)], and 5600x or 5800x is [IOD <-> 1*CCD].

Although Windows have some optimization to prioritize most calculation work to be done within the same CCD, there will always be a time that a half done instruction sent to the other CCD, intra-core communication is much much faster than inter-core communication, which means 5600/5800 both will never have a inter-core communication, but 5900x potentially will run into the latency issue at some stage.

Also as a side note, 5600x or 5900x or 5800x are all using the same CCD design, so it ultimately come down to the silicon lottery, if you have a 5600x that OC more than a 5900x, then this 5600x will have better single core performance than other CPUs, vise versa.

(sorry for my poor gramma, English isn't my first language, hopefully you can understand what I mean)

  • Does anyone know if you can remove the yellow highlights from the motherboard? I'm starting a black & white build and would jump on this but the aesthetics are a bit average.

    • +15

Are you saying you don’t like the Tonka Trucks colour aesthetic?

    • No you cant. Would have to paint it or something which would probably void warranty.

      • What about black stickers?

        • Or duct tape

          • +1

@FrozenFred: True. But why not just go a different board with more neutral colour scheme.

    • +1

I imagine you could get something like a vinyl wrap and cut it to size?

    • +1

You mean to say you don't want it to look like something from Cyberpunk 2077?

  • +6

Not a bad deal.. Typical price for this motherboard is around $165 but SE have it listed for $149, making the CPU $250. Shipping is a reasonable $11.85 for metro areas.

Okay for those who are after a Ryzen 5 3600 and don't mind the forced motherboard selection.

    • +1

The MB is $119 from Centrecom with free shipping which makes the CPU $280. You could also get the CPU from Centrecom for $319. To be honest, for a $28.15 (minus shipping) discount, I'd rather go with a MB that I want…like a B550M with built-in wifi.

      • +4

$119 is for the mATX version of the board. They sell the ATX equivalent for $165 which is what I understand SE is bundling with the Ryzen 5 3600.

In any case, I agree with you that there are better motherboard choices out there for not much more..

        • Yes, you're right, this indeed looks like the ATX version. Tunnel vision on my behalf as I'm after an mATX MB. :)

  • Any opinions on the MB? And a WiFi card to go with it?

    • Asus make good boards, nothing special about this one though, its probably a tad better than most b450's on the market. the bundle is a good deal.

As for adding WiFi I would recommend the gigabyte AX200 card

  • +2

    need Glasses

    • +2

      Maybe I just have dyslexia but I'm seeing a 4 not a 5. B450.

Edit: god damn it, just as I commented hahaha

      • +1

Yeah I had to be quick b4 negarama

  • B550 is the way to futureproof your system; I don't think all B450 will get BIOS update to support Ryzen 3 right?

    • I agree, I went with giga b550 gaming and a 3600 for now, it was cheap enough and if the mobo lasts I have an upgrade path

    • This board will defs get support for Ryzen 3. B550 isn't that future proof because the next AMD CPU's will most likely use a different socket

      • but the likelihood of them (B550) getting support for the next AMD CPUs are slightly higher than B450.

        • +9

Neither will get support, its a physically different socket - AM5. Based on what I know.

    • +2

Future-proof? Who can think that far ahead during these times? High demand, low supply and pricing shenanigans means you should just buy and enjoy what you can afford today.

      • +1

patience is really an expensive thing to have these days.

    • +1

totally agree, and some b550 boards have 2 x nvme ports too.

    • +1

      I'd have to disagree.

B450 will be Ryzen 3 compatible, and B550 is the last of the AM4 socket motherboards.

B550 is a fair bit more expensive, doesn't really offer much over the B450, and won't be compatible with next gen CPUs.

Better off either going B450 now or waiting until AM5.

      • +1

B550 can be obtained as low as $100.

        • No VRM heatsinks on that one. Also, price is showing $115 for me?

          • @HomeAlone: aaaaah … did you not read what's the context of the discussion? it was to reply on the statement 'B550 is a fair bit more expensive' which it isn't. We weren't discussing about good B550 MoBo.

  • Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on this CPU with max settings and a reasonable framerate (+ 2070s)

    • +1

i heard even 3090 is struggling to hit good framerate.

      • Depen on what resolution you playing on

      • I should probably mention I play with DLSS (auto) and disabled RT, since I do not see it changing much. Also disabled film grain, chromatic abberation and motion blur, since they all make the game actually look worse. Otherwise all settings on highest and running very smoothly. Can't tell the FPS but it feels like something around 60-120 (g-sync on, 144Hz monitor).

  • looking to build a SFF, any deals?????????
been waiting for a deal for 5600x hmmm

    • +1

with the scarcity of 5600x around the globe, it'd be hard to find a good deal this year; perhaps early next year.

      • very true… are you looking to build an SFF, its been blowing my mind what setup to do bc everything so hard to get already let alone for a SFF build…

        • no, i am just looking for a gaming PC at the good price and something that I be willing to pull trigger on after a year of celibacy.

        • Don't let the SFF bug bite you or you'll be paying dearly for it. Honestly, if you don't have space limitations, just steer clear of the temptation.

          • @OSienna: SFF is love. SFF is life.

            • @fufufu: fufufu, wanna share your setup????

its so hard, like im almost tihnking of https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/amd-ryzen-7-5800x-gig…

              hahaha

              • @BaeSuzy: Sorry to disappoint but I am also starting my first gaming itx build. What I'm planning:

                5600/5600x
                Gigabyte b550 aorus pro itx
                Whatever cheap 3200/3600 ram
Whatever cheap nvme probably Kingston A2000
3080/6800xt whichever come in stock at a reasonable price
                Sf750
                Nr200

actually wanted to do a build inside an old PS2 phat but the space was simply not enough without too many compromises. Also looked in to tiny Dan A4 build but the cost of the case as well as the 2 slot GPU restriction really makes it hard for me to pick it.

I'm really torn because I want to have as small of a case as possible but as others have said it gets expensive real fast.

                • @fufufu: Nah your build, is exactly what i am going for, same case too, i wanted the H1 but its near impossible to get, plus the PSU is too low for 3080 range.

With above, dont you think we should get https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/amd-ryzen-7-5800x-gig…

i can find a better deal? plus when you add ram you get a discount on it too!!

                  or should we wait? hmm.

We would need a cooler too

                  • @BaeSuzy: For me I can't justify the extra cost of 5800x for gaming and I already have the mobo from black Friday eBay sale. Waiting for boxing day sales.

If u want the components now look around as see if it's a good price, I'm not sure as I never looked for 5800x. To give you a rough idea I got the aorus pro for $250 and expect to get the 5600x for around $480.

I was thinking black ridge for cooler as it allows me to use smaller case if I need to in the future but it's not the best air cooling you can get for nr200 case.

          • @OSienna: SFF is life!!!

        • Don't get me wrong, I love bonsai PCs to death.. especially sub-10L beauties. Just wish that component prices didn't hurt so much

  • +2

With the extra 40 bucks over this? https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/amd-ryzen-5-3600-giga…
I don't need rgb and usb c is nice but not essential. Anything else that the asus has that's better than the gigabyte? Just very tempted to come across from i5 6500

    • +2

Well, the cheaper mobo has 1 fan header I think?

So if you have multiple fans you might need a fan splitter…best to check the features yourself.

  • Any deal on Motherboard + CPU + RAM combo?
Who'd usually sell such a combo?

    • Basically every major PC retailer, like the one I linked up there. Just search "cpu bundle" and you'll find many.

RAM is really cheap and it's often included to justify a higher price for the bundle.

  • 450 is end of life riight.. last support

  • +1

I managed to get this deal with free shipping (with insurance): https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/AMD-Ryzen-CPU-Motherboard… ($399 delivered but note there is a 1% surcharge if paying with card/PayPal).

Also added 32GB of RAM for $169.

    • I got the combo deal with free shipping, I've got 16gb RAM bundle.

  • Seems decent

  • Hey guys,
Looking to build a SFF machine
    https://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/buy/amd-ryzen-7-5800x-gig…

Wanting to get this, because i want something better than 3600 for the lol's.
I can't seem to get a better combo in any way
5600x + mb = same price or small price difference?

    Thoughts?

    • Global shortage on 5600x cpu. You may have to wait til next year.

  • For the MB and CPU bundle deal, do I need to update the bios of MB to support the CPU? Or the seller do the update before shipping?

    • not sure, but its easy, with the newer mb

  • I was watching Ryzen 3600 reviews, Looks like it's got overheat issues. I may need to upgrade the stock cooler to the aftermarket coolers.

    • The stock cooler should be adequate provided your case is not starved for air. A sub-par case will most likely need an AIO liquid cooler to replace the included Wraith Stealth cooler.

    • Had this fear as well in the beginning, but the stock cooler is actually pretty good

      • I disagree - how can you make a silent pc when idle temps are 40 50 deg c with ambient of 25, 30 and I have a very good fan setup

        • I didn't say it was the quietest. It cools down the CPU well tho. Not a problem if you play with headphones anyways.

  • bought this plus the ram - G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 - to upgrade my sisters i5 6500k, 2080, 16 gigs of 2133 ram system.

  • Bought the Gigabyte DS3H combo deal for 359 free shipping, got it today so happy, so fast!

    • Gratz, what idle temp? And make sure you update to latest bios

      • Using the stock cooler, its about 55degree most of my daily use. Enough for me. I don’t play games so that’s perfect.

        • Same as mine on stock cooler what ram and did you get xmp to work?
