My nephew wants a wireless mouse and keyboard that lights up for gaming. I was after advice on what peripherals are good value
Advice on RGB wireless keyboard and mouse
Comments
Both wireless on his request. Not sure on money they seem to be around the $150.
If he wants both wireless mice and wireless keyboards suitable for gaming, then you should expect to pay around $500.
For synchronous RGB between the mouse and keyboard you'll want to stick with either Razer or Logitech, and not mix and match, as the software isn't cross-compatible between products. A few other brands like Corsair and Steelseries make good wireless products, but their RGB software is atrocious. Fine for solid colours, but the customizability just isn't there.
Wireless mice are fine from most brands, as they're pretty forgiving when it comes to interference and lag. Top contenders are the G Pro Wireless from Logitech and the Viper Ultimate from Razer, both can be had for $200 often. Plenty of cheaper contenders with different shapes and sizes from both brands, really depends on what sort of mouse your nephew wants (Sleek and ambidextrous, chunky with lots of extra buttons, about 10 different sizes and prices between brands). Best value is the Basilisk X from Razer, starting around $70.
Wireless keyboards are incredibly finnicky for gaming, as there is almost 0 tolerance for missed/delayed keys, so they come with a huge premium. You do not want to cheap out here. Razer makes a single wireless RGB keyboard, the BlackWidow V3 Pro Wireless, for $350 on special. Logitech makes 2, the G915 TKL and the regular G915, both can be had for around $300. Can save about $150 by going wired, lots of great wired RGB keyboards from both brands for under $200. Huntsman TE from Razer and G Pro X from Logitech are both great for around $150 on special.
I'm currently using a Viper ultimate and a G915 TKL.
Caution: Wireless peripherals can introduce lag and suffer from interference.
Negative on the lag with current wireless mice only the older ones suffer from that, but there is a possibility of interference if a wifi router is extremely close like on the same desk.
I had a wireless keyboard who would suffer if my phone was nearby :/
tbh the only keyboard with good wireless technology would be Logitech's new expensive ones.
I used to have my router on my desk about 50 cm away from my mouse pad, never had any issue's until one day my mouse was screwing up, found out the antenna on my router moved from facing the ceiling to facing my mouse, it took the antenna directly facing my mouse before it would cause interference.
Logitech basically perfected wireless tech for Mice and keyboards.
@Axelstrife: my toddlers fixed that! by breaking the antennas on my router.
There are not many keyboards that comes with a dongle for wireless connection (which I guess people would prefer for PC gaming).
Logitech has their Logitech g915 and g915 tkl, which would be way above your budget.
I think Corsair K63 would be within your budget (you'd need to wait for a bargain and have to find a mouse as well).
Razer released their wireless keyboard line up as well, but I think they were fairly expensive as well.I think you'd be better off waiting for the boxing day sales, since I think a lot of vendors already did their discounts during cyber monday/black friday sales.
Keeping to your budget of $150 in mind and the preference for everything to be wireless with RGB here.
For wireless mice from bigger name brands for gaming, these are available in the sub-$100 range. Examples:
- Logitech G305 (https://www.amazon.com.au/Logitech-Lightspeed-Lightweight-Pr…)
- Razer Basilisk X Hyperspeed (https://www.amazon.com.au/Razer-Basilisk-Hyperspeed-Ergonomi…)To fit keyboards into the budget, you may have to compromise on the brand. The big name brands do have RGB & wireless keyboard options, but these are at much higher price points. If you:
- sacrifice wireless, there are a few name brand gaming keyboards with RGB (example : Logitech G213)
- sacrifice RGB. there are several name brand keyboards with wireless, but would be more aimed at general / work purpose keyboards (which will work but minus the fancy flashy lights). If you don't care about name brands, just search on amazon for (wireless gaming keyboard)
Example (https://www.amazon.com.au/KLIM-Chroma-Wireless-Gaming-Keyboa…)Unlike others have said, you don't have to spend $500 on wireless peripherals. Concerning the mouse, the Razer Basilisk seems pretty decent, reputable company, and regarding the keyboard,
Check out the Anne Pro 2, wireless GK61, RK61 or maybe even the Keychron keyboards online. Much better value for money than the Razer, Corsair and Logitech wireless keyboards. Good luck!
Thank you to everyone for the very helpful advise
How much are you looking to spend? Does the keyboard have to be wireless, or just the mouse?
