  • Okay, so these are just pricey torches.

There are many different products for your choose.

These are Top quality torches @ Very reasonable prices :)

I have a 3 different ones and I would agree, they are superb quality. Prices are also very good when you take advantage of their sales.

    • +1

that like saying a Ferrari is just a pricey car

    • Compared to a Bunnings special, yes. Compared to another torch of similar quality and performance, no

I have seen olight in person just another day. Seems they use non standard power elements. (Please tell me if I am wrong) big potential problem.
I use Convoy M2 which is a good budget torch (around $30). Can someone explain to me what I will get paying 5 times that price? So, of course I want to compare like for like. Not this hunting torch but whatever universal "city" version olight has.
PS found it Olight M2R pro - funny that, almost the same model name as Convoy.

I believe that if one of the similar products is more expensive, there must be a reason. For example, its performance, its functions, its longer use time and so on. And the time will tell.

      • My Convoy M2 is perfect (for the type of battery it uses, which is 18650) of course, bigger battery will give some benefits along with weight penalty. I have been using it for 4 years without any issues. Can I bulk buy Convoy's and start my own brand in Australia? Seems like a good idea.

        • Good luck with that

@Tsapena: Thanks. It was sarcasm, shallow man's humour. I was just trying to say that flashlight "brand" like Olight is laughable. At least it is a genuine light unlike Led Lenser.

            • @Musiclover: Lol !
You must know a lot about lights….

              • -1

@Tsapena: Oh it's a science… There are forums with hundreds of participants and thousands of pages… Reviews, opinions, etc. All I know is that Chinese brand like Convoy is good enough.

Nothing wrong with Convoy at all. Olight is a global brand producing many high quality torches to meet a specific need. Majority of the larger, more expensive releases use customised batteries with external magnetic charging. This is to reduce the number of time the torch is opened which leads to wear on the o-rings and battery sleeve and reduces the chance for things to go wrong. It also helps with their 5 year warranty as it's easier to identify the cause when you eliminate the possibility of an unsupported battery being the cause.

The build quality is higher than some, having not used a convoy but having many Nitecore Astrolux, Lumintops and Olights, the Olight seems to have a consistently better fit and finish. They also tend to be cool white emitters for more performance rather than the warmer tints as there is more market for the cooler tints.

Just a heads up, the Olight Warrior X Turbo, M2R Warrior Pro, Warrior Mini can not use any battery other than Olight's own.

Any other battery won't even let the light turn on.

Olight's replacement 21700 battery cost $32 AUD so good luck.

    • +2

that sucks. Wish I knew that before buying their torch.

      • I bought a Warrior mini in the Black Friday sale and, just like you, I wish I knew that before buying their torch. I can buy 2 high quality protected 18650 cells for the price of one of their olight 18650 cells…
The reason the other cells won't work is that Olight has modified their cells to have both positive and negative poles on top of the cell, to make it easier to charge the battery while still on the light.
Very lazy, in my opinion, or just a strategy to get people to buy overpriced cells.

        • I'm cool with how they try to get customers stay within their product range. I'm just not cool with the fact that I knew about this information from someone on the internet, not from their product website.

    • Yeah but show me the price of a different high quality, protected 21700. They are all around that price if not more expensive 😂 you can get unprotected batteries cheaper but that's about it

      • Branded ones that is.
