  • Weird question: I never played any of these games, and as far as fighting games go I really haven't played one since SFII, which I enjoy as a button-masher. But I nearly always enjoy first-party Nintendo games. Could I enjoy this?

I would say yes, but it also depends on if you have others to play with - solo play gets a bit ordinary after a while.

I've been enjoying Smash since the N64 days and Ultimate feels like the most complete version ever released.

I have the game and have to say that this is a mainly multi player game for it to be fun, as someone who enjoy offline solo game, this isn’t very fun for me. You could enjoy this if you have someone to play with.

      • I thought the same way before I discovered adventure mode, have you tried it? And collecting cards in spirit board.

      • is there only classic mode that you can play with someone with?

the series was born because the creator loved playing traditional fighting games with his friends, but always destroyed them because they didn't care for learning the button combinations for the stronger moves (or something to that effect).

there's a competitive crowd that pare down the rulesets, turn off the items and dig into the frame data and so on, (and eventually you might get into this way of playing too, it adds more strategic depth) but the game plays great with everything on, its probably even easier for noobs to do well in 4+ player games than it is in Mario Kart.

I shudder saying this but same price at Hardly Normal
Good if price matching at JB e.g. for those on CommBank with $10 off $50 or gift cards, etc.
