Get 10% Cashback Every Saturday in December (Max $30 Back Per Transaction) Using Tap & Pay @ Zip

8761

There seems to be a lot of confusion based on the comments so let me try and clarify how this works:

  1. Sign up to Zip Pay. Not Zip Money. You can use the 'Related Offers' at the bottom of this description for new signup options. Note that you must provide your email address or phone number if you want a referral, there’s no referral link and you can’t be referred without that info!
  2. Download the Apple or Android app and sign in with your details. You will need a smartphone with NFC.
  3. Go to the "Cards" tab within the Zip app. Click on Add to Apple Wallet (or Google Wallet if using android).
  4. Go to any store that accepts tap & go on credit/debit cards. Do not ask if they accept Zip Payment as this is a separate payment method.
  5. Purchase anything (any gift cards, services, goods, literally anything) and checkout with Apple Pay or Google Pay by tapping your digital Zip card on Saturday. Do not spend more than $300 in one transaction if you want to maximise your benefit as you won't get 10% back above $300!
  6. You should see the rewards balance reflected under "Rewards" within the "Your Zip" tab of the app immediately.
  7. Once you have reached $30 in credit, click on the redeem button to apply the credit to your account.
  8. Pay off your Zip account by linking a credit card to earn points and defer payment (The screen says debit card but many have confirmed credit cards to work as well - Amex will not work). It takes 3 days for processing payments to finalise and you cannot make additional payments sooner than that.
Things to note:
  • Applying for a Zip account will trigger a credit check.
  • Redeemable once you've reached $30 in credit (I.e. Min spend $300)
  • Rewards balance will continue accruing even if you don't redeem $30.
  • There's no daily limit. The only limit is your credit limit.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay don't have a $100 tap and pay limit like normal cards. The limit is unlimited since you biometrically authenticate yourself at the time of payment.
  • You cannot prepay your zip account via BPAY so that it goes into credit. I contacted Zip and they informed me that since they’re not a bank they’re not allowed to hold deposits. If you prepay your account you will be breaching their T&Cs and your account may get blocked. It will take a few days to unblock. Do so at your own risk, some have reported success while others have confirmed they got blocked.
  • You cannot make payments online.
  • Max $30 back per transaction.
  • Excludes Westfield gift cards purchased from Westfield
  • On days other than Saturday, you can still earn 3% or 5% cash back that will accrue towards your rewards balance.
  • Within a twenty-four (24) hour period, you (a) are limited to redeeming your Reward Goal eight (8) times, and (b) will not earn any further credit back if you spend $4,000 or more.
  • 10% back on Super Saturdays will override all other cashback offers with lower % back.
  • By end of 8 January 2021, any credit back that has not reached the Reward Goal will be cancelled.

                      • @samehada: Zip didn't reply.

I was on the phone for 2 hours while they 'investigated'. They promised to return the money at the end of it but I still lodged a case with AFCA as the whole thing had been a huge nightmare.

Banks just said they never received anything from Zip.

And what annoyed me more was they kept blaming me for ‘violating’ the contract instead of focusing on the fact they were ‘stealing’ our money.

If i didn’t contact them again & again the last few days, would I even see my money back?

                        What if I forgot?

                      • @samehada: How did you go?

F*, they only want to release my fund if I agree with it as a resolution, i.e. closing AFCA case as well.

They want you jump through so many hoops just to get my money back.

                        • @tajid: They want the bank to confirm that BPAY reversal has been cancelled. I emailed them the letter from the bank that BPAY has been rejected by Zip and called them today to spoke to a guy. He is more helpful than the other staff, seems some of their Customer Service staff is more helpful than others. So he has spoken to account team and will get it refunded to my bank account.

  • Got a limit increase invite today. Accepted and increased to the max $1,500 now.

    • Me too. On one hand I’m cheering because I’m better prepared for the next promotion. But on the other hand, I still have a negative rewards balance, it looks like they’re retaining that and I’ll have to earn it back into positives in the next promo.

  • +1

I am looking forward to seeing the increase in complaints made to AFCA about Zip Co.

  • My rewards balance was -$2.90 because of a refund when the promo finished. I thought Zip may claw that back from my available balance (like it was a spend) but it looks like they've just let it go :)

    • Yeah I had a negative rewards balance, figured that negative would remain until the next promotion. But I just checked and the rewards tile is gone. So I guess it’s clean slate? Good stuff, but I hope that’s not the last we see of this promo.

  • Question - I bought a $720 item during the period - one transaction so I got $30 cash back and I’ve since paid off the balance in full - using a debit card.

I’ve just returned the item and the retailer issued a full refund to the original card (Zip Apple Pay)

    1. As per above - I’m guessing my rewards balance will go to -$30? Is this correct?
    2. Since my account will now be in credit of $720 what happens? Do they return it to my debit card automatically? Or does it sit in credit and I need to contact them?

    Thanks

    • Regarding the credit amount:

If you were to believe the Zip Co help page (previously cited in this thread) about refunds, it is a simple process of providing Zip Co with your BSB and account number.

The reality is that Zip Co customer service is atrocious and will likely make you jump through hoops to get your credit balance back. Zip Co may even ask you to misrepresent the situation to your financial institution to request a BPAY reversal. A BPAY reversal is not designed for these circumstances.

As you have indicated that you funded your account via debit card, you may be in slightly different situation. Let's see what tricks Zip Co pulls on you.

A number of have gone to AFCA for assistance. Best of luck!

      • Thanks. Hopefully it’s not as bad as your experience.

    • The rewards tile is gone from the app, I assume you got away without $30 being deducted from your account.

And simplest solution for your extra balance and I assume their suggestion if you contact them, just tap and pay back down to 0.

      • Thanks - got the full amount back

In the process of tapping/pay down to $0 balance - that seems to be the most straightforward thing to do. Shouldn’t take long

  • I wonder why Zip doubled there customer base and went up 10% today ?
I think without juicy offers like this that growth is not going to be too profitable for them .
Besides many other competitors joining the party
Puts on them at $6.72 current share price .

    • Share price at $7.20 now

Most of the growth I believe is from their US subsidiary.

  • ZIP has a chargeback function so if you have any problem with purchase, contact them. I provided the chat transcript with the seller as a proof and got refunded few days later.

  • Silly question: since the "rewards" title is gone from the app - is it safe to assume that we've lost any rewards we didn't redeem?

I remember the terms saying there was a deadline on earning the rewards (in min lots of $30); I didn't realise there was a deadline on redeeming said rewards.

    • yes

    • Zip has sent email before promotion finished explained that any rewards >$30 will be auto-redeemed after promotion finished on 8/1 and whatever left less than $30 will be forfeited.

      • That's really interesting - I got that email but I've got no evidence in my history of any rewards being applied - and I spent $1k on various goods & services.

Anybody else missing a reward payout they feel they should have received?

        • You should know better your rewards by checking the history. For 3% you need to spend exactly 1k to get $30 rewards, if it is less than that then you won't be getting anything. So even if you earn $29.99 rewards you will just lose it.

I’ve found where mine is showing.

          App:zip

          tab:your zip

blue square with ie$1000 available spend

At the bottom see your recent activity

Reward redeemed (28 December) $30 and the credit is in blue

But I cashed mine out well beforehand
          Anything under $30 was forfeited

          • -1

@Bad Wolf: I'm slightly filthy about this: big purchases I made specifically on the eligible Saturdays are recorded in my activity the next day(s). So it looks like I haven't qualified for sufficient cashback.

            That's absolute carp, Zip.
