bought since release, very good monitor

  • Can’t speak on this one specifically, but I have the LG 43” 4K monitor and have used for both WFH and gaming for 15months.

I loved the size at the beginning, but found too big to comfortably use all the screen without moving whole body, so I end up just using the eye level of the screen.

Quite a lot of light bleed in a dark room making gaming contrast poor also, so I’m saving for a OLED tv for gaming and separate ultrawide for work.

I don’t regret it as these large monitors are definitely bang for your buck.

    • Some reviews complain of light bleed with this model too but it was too good a deal to pass up. I believe its bad for your eyes to have the room so dark anyway haha

How far do you sit from the screen? My desk is quite deep

      • Edge of the desk is a stretched arm length back from the screen, so my eyes are maybe 1m back, still not deep enough admittedly but the limit of my (upgraded) desk (I did have a shallower ikea one).

      • Yours come yet? 1 hdmi input is hurting me a bit but thats the only complaint here.

    • mate, what is the model of the 43 lg you got?

Thanks for sharing the experience of owning a big monitor.

Couldn't resist, been using an old 42 " lcd tv (gva) for years now as a monitor so size isn't the issue for me. In quality terms this has gotta be a great upgrade surely.

    Thanks OP

  • Ps Deal not showing anymore?

    • Still displaying for me…

    Thanks OP. Pulled the trigger!

  • Ive heard on here all the VA hate. But i gather from what was posted that this phillips monitor differs from your average VA? Any help appreciated

I have the previous Philips model, significantly lower power draw (~60W vs 100W, no ambiglow). Pretty much the same pixel pitch as a 22" FHD or 32" 2K (WQHD), so you can work at 100% scaling (ie no scaling required) giving the sharpest detail for all situations. No, it's not as 'detailed' as a 27" 4K because you're adding a lot more pixels per inch, however until OS's move to vector rendering engines the compromises required for scaling just aren't worth it IMO. 43" 4K is the same as stitching four 22" FHD screens together without the bezels, it's a significant upgrade in desktop real estate and makes a huge difference to my productivity and workflow.

I do have two caveats here. First, the fact that there still isn't a curved 43" 4K monitor available is ludicrous. You can obviously get shallower curved gaming monitors, because at that width you really need the display to curve, but these 43" 4k screens have the same issue - sitting 80cm from the middle of the screen, my eyes are actually over 100cm from the edges, and due to the curvature of the eye the effect this has makes it seem like the screen is convex - like it curves away from you at the sides. Such a monitor needs to be curved to maintain equidistance from the eye across the whole surface. But I've been begging manufacturers for such a screen for about five years now but no one's interested, because they don't believe there's a large enough market.

So as much as a curved 43" screen would be a vast improvement, there's no point in holding out for one because they don't exist.

Secondly, about three weeks ago my monitor died - it started flickering, then stopped working altogether. Fortunately it has a four year warranty, and I'd only owned it for 3½ years, so Philips sent me a carton (from Sydney to Perth), I boxed it up and sent it back to them, they repaired it, and it's on its way back to me at the moment. So I'm pretty chuffed it was repaired under warranty, but really disappointed it died like that in the first place. I'm also pretty concerned about the condition it's going to be returned in, because it was absolutely immaculate externally, so I hope they've been careful with it…

Overall, these are great screens and I highly recommend them, but as with everything remember they have their limitations, not the least of which is a refresh rate that can't achieve 100Hz or above, so they're not the best gaming monitor, nor do they have a particularly spectacular colour gamut or accuracy, so they're not ideal for professional imaging editing work. But for office productivity? About the only thing I'd consider an improvement is a second one!

    • I've been saying 40" ips curved for years. I guess the manufacturers aren't watching ozbargain comments tho :p

    • Actually this monitor has one the highest colour gamuts for any TV or monitor released. Even better than some of the flagship TV's costing thousands of dollars. The other Philips monitors are the usual specs.

      • Really? I wasn't aware of that! Quite an excellent article on the monitor here for anyone interested, I was pleasantly surprised at their findings overall.

      • Was released 2 and a half years ago. At the time it was the best colour gamut ever for a commercially released monitor or TV. Since they seem to be getting worse the last couple years (even Samsung flagship TV's have dropped from 98% to 95% for DPI3) this would still have to be top 5 or 3 for anything on the market. Also the highest nits for it size

What makes it a "Gaming Monitor" at 60Hz? :\

  • +1

I picked up one of these to run side by side with my old 43" Wusabi Mango IPS UHD430 a few months ago. The Philips is must better for gaming from a distance or watching movies but when your up close for photo editing, web browsing the Philips has a strange dither texture which makes thumbnails or icons awful. The Wusabi uses an LG panel from memory and looks much better overall despite the Philips being brighter and deeper blacks.

  • Got it today, very happy but frustrated at having only 1 hdmi input! I want to use my oldish laptop and Xbone without switching cables.

I purchased this HDMI switch to go with it. I like it since it has a remote so the unit its self can be hidden away. It also auto switches when input from a new source is detected.

I know when it comes to HDMI cables there is little difference in quality to price ratio. But for this, I'm not sure if that applies (and some say max 30htz) so I played it safe and got a mid-range one.

I am also getting mine today I am excite
