    It's not as absurd as you think, the Operating System will load more stuff onto the RAM depending on it's size (2GB will have processes like svchost.exe on 50,000KB but 4GB might use 90,000KB). I would say at this stage anything over 8/12 is overkill but I can see 8GB become the standard in 2-3 years (4GB is standard now).

  I recon, you guys to check JBHIFI stores nearby and if they have stock, they will do it for $680-700.
  Its a runout model ( I dont know why) and they price matched my for CC deal ( $680 + $69-> 2 years extd warranty)
  so $750 with 3 years warranty will be good. BTW 4 gb ram costs only $25 more.

  I think HP Laptops needs addnl warranty.

    BTW: I'd tried couple of jbhifi in Mel, some of them out of stock, some of them could not do this price because CC's offer is expried and the 2 yrs extended warranty at JB is $119 not $69 your mentioned before.
