Update: Hey guys, I think this might actually be the DV6-6145TX based on two reasons:
1. I can't find any information on the DV6-6112TX; and
2. This video says it's a DV6-6145TX: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qc7cO4ddq8&feature=player_em…

Anyway, that's a good thing, as the DV6-6145TX has USB 3.0. The rest of the specs are the same.
I'll update the title once someone confirms the model number.

Update: Just got a reply from Centre Com:

Hi,
They are actually the same model.

Whatever that means. Anyway, I think it's safe to assume that you'll be getting a laptop with the specs above and MOST LIKELY USB 3.0.

Only standout is the 6770, but for $699 you would be hard pressed to find a better value gaming notebook anywhere else. Was this the model range that had the overheating problems?

    • Agree. Not a bad graphics card. Don't think this is the one with overheating problems. Price is good but would prefer to find a Full HD notebook for under $1k

      • there are a few full HD notebooks for under $1k, atm all I can think of is MSI GE620 here: http://www.pccasegear.com/?main_page=product_info&products_i…

      • +2

This might sound crazy but I think 720p is better for a budget gaming laptop. That GPU will perform a lot better at 720p than 1080p and the screen is small enough that the lower res still looks good.

        • My laptop is full HD but I game at lower resolutions to keep decent frame rate, otherwise 1080p screen for normal browsing is perfectly fine for me.

        • I could not agree more with you.Everyone wants full HD computer screen but you really need the suitable hardware to support it.

    • I believe heating problem was with first gen i7. or was it early batch sandy bridge

  • -6

MLN has it with 6gb and free headphones $697 - https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=3534

      Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-2410M 2.3 GHz
      Video: Intel HD Graphics

  • yeah good price

  • +1

nice price. slap in another $20 4gb ram module and away you go :)

  • Is this the current gen i7?

    • +1

      Yeah it is.

    • -3

      no. 2730QM

      • ???

        • I think he means the 2670 which replaces the 2630 at the same price point

        • It's still the same generation (Sandy Bridge) albeit slightly faster. Nevertheless, this one is a current generation i7.

        • +1

He must back from the future, that's why he said no.

  • Anyone know/has tried BF3 or latest COD on this spec machine? I have last year's i5 model with 5670M at same pricepoint and it's unplayable. I know this one is basically CPU is atleast double and GPU is +30%, is it enough?

    • there was no 5670M, you might be confusing it with th 5650M or the desktop 5670.
I have a 5730M and BF3 flies on mine at medium graphics AA off v sync on

      • +1

        yeah, my bad 5650M.

Anyway, i'm sold - order placed.

        • It's probably the best gaming laptop you can get unless you're willing to pay > $1,000 for one with a GTX 460/555/560.

        • Will drop them an email quoting the youtube ad - ask them to change order to 6145TX

        • It probably already is a 6145TX and they just had the model number wrong on the website. Anyway, please post back once they've replied.

    • +2

I have the DV6-6145 with the same important specs (except 8GB ram) and having no issues with Battlefield 3. I've left it on the default, which uses Medium and Ultra, for Multiplayer and experienced no lag at all. Could push for higher quality, but i dont mind missing out on slight details to ensure lagless gaming.

It was starting to struggle with Skyrim on Ultra, but should run that fine on High. Crysis 2 on Ultra was averaging at 30fps.

Honestly, there is no point getting a HD monitor on a 15.6" screen. The size is so small anyway that it doesnt matter, and the external display via HDMI should run in full HD if needed.

I would recommend these specs to anyone.

  • what about the lenovo y560p, i got it price matched with orangeit at MLN richmond for ~$750 few weeks ago…better value?

    • if we compare about the graphic cards, you will find out this one 6770M is better than Y560P's. When I missed the $845 good deal on 6145, I almost turned to lenovo. But now, this one is better.

  • This is a good laptop, I have the 34TX model which has the i5 instead of an i7, the computer can be pushed to run games great but it uses smart GPU crap that tries to detect how much performance you need and switches the 6770/on board accordingly. I sometimes feel that the GPU can put out a lot more performance but it's being held back, one example is getting occasional frame drops in warcraft 3, but then I can play dota 2 and run on high settings (with average frames).

I've tested a few other games (dead island) and they run great but I still see performance drops when it should be smooth.

    • Hi, could you please post the spec of the 6770M? like core frequency ,ram ,please use GPU-Z, I dont know whether HP marked down the spec.

      • Ok got it working, I accidentally disabled the manager or there was a problem with the driver as a re-install has it working.

        http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/11/24/7262_dv66134tx_6770m.…

        • Thanks, anyway. If possible, could you please tell me about the quality of the machine? I am struggling whether to buy extend warranty, which is so expensive….. I wish centrecom can offer $90 for 5 years like shoppingexpress or if they can offer for 3 years, I can also accept.

        • Thanks, that is helpful. What is the brand of Ram? I am thinking to get one tomorrow and buy a ram from msy, haha

        • according to the spec, I checked with some core player's graphic cards ranking list, this one is under Nvidia GT555M+DDR5 and above GT555M+DDR3, and also much better than the common GT540M, great!!

        • I think the quality is really nice, the body is metalish (maybe aluminium), keys are nice screen is clear, overall I'm really happy with it as I got it for $580 during the HN sale.

Playing Skyrim right now, auto detected to very high, 0 lag during the start cart/execution scene.

P.S - I replaced the hard drive with a 120GB SSD, super awesome!

        • Memory is standard HP memory I'd assume, probably average timings for DDR3. If you're looking to upgrade the ram my 6134TX has 1 memory slot as I wanted to chuck 6/8GB in it but alas I'll have to wait for larger single sticks :(

    • umm it should never switch to the IGP when you're running a game..

      well mine does not.

      • I think it's more driver related (since the drivers are old/distributed by HP) or throttling. Playing Skyrim last night was awesome, ran flawless on very high settings with me spamming fireballs that burst into rocks (psb all spells console command has a developer spell with 0/low magicka cost).

        • hmm well i use ATI catalyst 11.8

        • Mines whatever windows update downloaded, I'll look into 11.8 later :)

  • I have a bad feeling that it's actually a dv7-6112tx, which is an i5 model (thus explaining the low price). It may be worth it to call up the store and have them manually check the item is what the site says it is. If it checks out fine then it'll be a pretty good deal. I'll recommend it to a close friend of mine as soon as someone can definitively confirm what model it actually is.

    • it can't be

      the dv7-6112tx comes with a 6490M =\

    • just check HP website
      http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c0293238…

it is real DV6-6112TX, just different specs.

    • It's more likely than not a 6145TX as the video advertises it as such and the email I received had i7 advertised. Plus the specs are exactly the same as the 6145TX.

      • 6145TX is actually 8GB Ram and 2GB graphic Ram version 6112TX, but you have to pay at least $150 more to get 6145tx. I reckon the 6770M could not make full use of 2GB RAM according to it's performance which is lower that GTX460, so !GB should be enough.

        • No, that's the 6146TX. Here's a link to the 6145TX: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c0292167…

        • it is weird….this 6145tx just like 6112tx without HDMI…

        • +1

Well I sent them an email to clear up which model it is, so I'll update this thread as soon as I get a reply.

        • "it is weird….this 6145tx just like 6112tx without HDMI…"

it'll have HDMI even if it's not listed on the specs sheet

  • -1

this model has overheating problems. dont expect to play too much b3 unless you get a cooling pad and are prepared to do some mods.

    • +3

      got source?

      • Whether you call this ovetheating problems or not…

        I got a 4023TX (i7 2630QM, 6570M).

If I stress test the CPU by itself (e.g. Intel Burn Test, OCCT etc) it his about 95 degrees. Fan sounds like a jet engine but nothing is shutting down to compensate so I guess its still a safe temperature.

Feels warm but not hot, which is surprising considering is a metal case.

        • i have the DV6-6024TX.. and that is same case for me

but you don't need to do mods.. it's not like the original DV* series of a few years ago with the huge overheating (and nvidia gfx) problems

  • this should run Starcraft 2 easily huh?

    • +1

      Should do.

  • anyone know battery life on this type of notebook… mainly while just surfing the web and while watching a movie.

    • From my past experience with HP laptops I'm going to guess about 3 hours.

      • my DV6-6024TX does 4 hours on the integrated video card.. but that's without watching a movie.. maybe a few youtube videos here and there (which I think is actually more taxing due to flash)

  • It has vga and hdmi, I should be able to connect 2 monitors to the laptop?
No experience with eye infinity here.

  • Centrecom replied that they are the same model? Does that mean we get the HP DV6-6145TX for $699 as well?
HP DV6-6145TX's model is newer and better specs.

    HP DV6-6112TX - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/pavilion-6112tx-qg440pa-… for $699

    VS

    HP DV6-6145TX - http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/qc368pa-pavilion-6145tx-… for $999
However, the youtube video is showing the HP DV6-6145TX selling for $699

    • whats the diff? specs look exactly the same lol

    • Just order the 6112 if you want one and they'll probably give you a 6145.

  • +1

Just grab 1 from Hawthorn store this morning, confirm that it's HP DV6 - 6145TX with 2 USB 3.0. Really exciting!

    • I'm SO tempted to go and buy one to play SWTOR on it and sell my ThinkPad. If I hadn't gone through 4 laptops already this year, I think I would have. Blah.

      • 4 Laptops in a year! Wow!

        • +2

Had a MacBook Pro since 2009, discovered OzBargain at the end of 2010, sold it for a ThinkPad Edge in 2011, then T520, then T420 :P.

        • oh god, that sounds painfully familiar. I've been offloading on ebay/gumtree/mates. same, or have you been keeping them lol?

        • Selling them of course :P

I haven't actually spent more than what I sold my MBP for ($1000) though.

  • $18 shipping to Sydney. Is there any coupon or so for free shipping?

  • I think for NSW people i think it would be best buying from jb-hifi for $800 http://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers/hp/pavilion-15-inch-noteb…. I just bought one today and managed to negotiate either $750 for 1 yr warranty or $800 for 3 yrs. For 2 yrs extended warranty it seems like hell of a bargain so i took it. I have safety of mind instead of ordering all the way from Victoria.

    • Someone managed to price match that to the CC deal and got it for $690 over at Whirlpool.

      • Oh rly? I'm going to pretend that im satisfied with my purchase. Using it right now :). Cashback deals on the new Ideapad y570 are gonna start next week. Currently you can buy them for $854 direct from lenovo using IDEA25OFF coupon code. And i think by next week they should offer $150 off.

  • +2

I got it today from Blacktown Jbhifi as suggested by someone on whirlpool and paid $749 with 3 years warranty ( 2 years additional warranty).
I placed order with centrecom and will be cancelling that. Its a damm good machine.

    Receipt says: 680 + 69 for 2 years addnl warranty = 749

I think its worth getting addnl. warranty for HP.

    • +1

Nicely done! Great price for including 3 yr warranty.

      • +1

yes, I am pretty happy with it.
If anyone interested, Steve is the person did the matching for me at jbhifi at blacktown with no hasstle and store has 5-6 laptops left. Better call in before going.

        • sweet, thanks for the info! am considering one just as a spare gaming rig at this price.. will sleep on it and decide tomorrow..

        • Hope you get it. I will be watching 4 GB RAM and SSD deal next.

        • If this is anything like the other models it will only have 1 memory slot, you can find 8GB ram sticks but they're a bit heafty.

+1 for the SSD though, 120GB crucial and it's blazing :)

        • +1

          what? my 6024TX has 2 slots……

        • It has two slots. single 4gb now. One free for another 4gb. Has anyone tried he kingston DDR3 on it. The one on laptop is some unknown brand RAM. Is it wiser to have pair of different brands on laptop?
8 GB in total is good for it.
@Redmoon, yes, I will be waiting for any good deal on 120GB. I dont know which brand to take now. but I can wait few months.

One more thing, I am confused why is this a discontinued product?

        • HOLD THE PHONE

seems like my laptop has 2 slots, not 1!

Brb going to do a dance!@

    • Hi,gagans, could you please send me the copy of the receipt? I will try to go to JB do the price match!

      • Hi jacky, I dont think you need a receipt. Call your store and ask the person for the deal.
Its a run out model. No one honours receipts these days.
Secondly you can show them the mln deal. though it is out of stock. tell them to match near it.
Otherwise, send me ur email address, I will scan it for u.

    • Hi,gagans, could you please send me the copy of the receipt? I will try to go to JB do the price match!

  • +1

Received my order from Centrecom, item is as advertised 6145TX

  • +2

I was the one who grabbed it from JB Hifi for $690. I like it but I have a dicky K key which keeps coming loose so I hope that us OZ Bargainers havent taken all the stock so I can swap it over.
Apart from that its really quick and games look great on it.

    • yes, thanks again for sharing that information. I saved few bucks and got extended warranty too :)

  • I wonder if anyone grabbed the MLN deal for the same model except 8GB Ram for $649 + Free Sennheiser Headphone

    http://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=3438&typeID=23

It is sold out anyway. Otherwise, a great deal.

    • Wow… when was that for sale?

      • I don't think it was for that price last week when this deal was going. It was previously selling for $899 if I am not wrong.

It may be updated to this price now that they are sold out.

        • Yeah never got any emails or anything about it but damn that's a good price. The headphones and the RAM is worth about $50 together, so $599 vs CC's $699.

        • Yes, I also think so. Looks like they changed it after it was out of stock.
This one with almost same specs. only diff is 750 GB hdd is for $798
          https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=3545&typeID=special

Warranty from them is expensive. So with 3 years warranty, it will be $838 (+29 shipping).

Also I prefer my JBHifi local store as compared to online one in other state.
so without the headset, I have spent like : 750+25 = 775 with 3 years warranty and same 8 gb RAM.
