Do you have the speed test result of the cards you brought?

    • +10

      SD card speed checking programs

They've been posted before in various places but I'll post these three SD card speed checking programs for anyone who doesn't know about them.

Because it's so easy to commit fraud and sell SD cards with fake labels and specifications, testing SD cards for capacity and speed really is essential.

If you've bought a SD card from Ebay there is a very good chance you have been scammed.

Even the sellers with the highest feedback have a favourite trick where they sell re-labelled low speed (or reject) SD cards as Class 6 or Class 10 cards knowing that 99% of buyers won't test the speed, even if they think to test the capacity.

This is an extremely lucrative business, and if they get caught out they just say "so sorry" and ask you to send the card back for a replacement - at your expense if you're silly enough. They've now got the evidence, and simply sell it again. To remove negative feedback or a complaint to Ebay, they will offer a refund or a genuine card.

So, if you do get a dud card, immediately complain to Ebay to establish a history, plus, give bitter negative feedback. If you're really angry at being scammed and want others to be aware, then refuse to remove the feedback. They hate that.

(Another giveaway of fake or originally generic cards is that they do not have the manufacturer's info and card's specs embedded in the card.)

These 3 free little programs are excellent for testing the actual speed of your new (& old) SD cards:

      1) h2testw.exe is available from http://mympx.org/Downloads/p13_sectionid/2/p13_fileid/13

      2) CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1b is available from http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.htm…

      3) SD Tools is an Android app for in situ testing of SD cards in your phone or tablet.
      Available from http://www.appbrain.com/app/sd-tools/ales.veluscek.sdtools

Remember, Class 4 claims a minimum write speed of 4mb/s
Remember, Class 6 claims a minimum write speed of 6mb/s
Remember, Class 10 claims a minimum write speed of 10mb/s

They never guarantee the maximum claimed speed!
If you get a much higher write speed than the label actually claims, you will have cause for rejoicing.

Go ye forth and test, and feel free to post this anywhere people talk about SD cards.

      • I bought 3 x SanDisk Mobile Ultra microSDHC Card 16GB from Topbuy a few days ago, and Got them this morning used all three test methods to test

All three from them archived 7-8Mb/s Write 22-26mb/s Read

While My Old Transflash (That came with the phone) 16GB MicroSDHC Archived

        5-6Mb/s Read 15-18MB/s Write.

So there is a difference but not huge.

        • 5-6Mb/s Read 15-18MB/s Write.

You mean 5-6mb/s Write, I think?

Read is always faster than Write (of course someone will always pop up to explain why this is not always true).

The Topbuy ones are probably Class 6.

The Transflash is probably Class 4.

Sometimes old cards labelled as Class 4 will actually test as 7-8mb/s or higher.

          Those were the days…

        • Ah sorry Typo

          5-6Mb/s Write 15-18MB/s Read.

      • does you computer speed matter with these programs? or if you connect the card through a SD slot directly to the computer or through a external devise i.e. SD in camera and camera connected to computer?

I am checking my class 10 16gb card (from Ewareshop) and I'm getting worrying results.. so i have an old laptop that has a SD slot which i used h2testw which gave me writing speeds of 2mb/s… so i tried it with a newer desktop through my camera connected to the computer (no SD slot) and got 5mb/s…
So this is a bit worrying having both test under 10mb/s, but i'm wondering if i might be doing it wrong.

I suspect that there is a problem with the card because sometimes my SLR isnt registering that a SD card is there and i have to insert it in and out to work.. does anyone know if this what happens when the card speed is too low? it isnt the camera's fault because it is new and it works for my 8gb class 10 card.

if anyone able to help out it would be appreciated! and if i do have to return it to ewareshop do I send it back to them (potentially loose the evidence)? and should they be paying the shipping back?

        thanks all.

Sounds very dodgy and don't hesitate to contact them and ask for a replacement card.

Should work immediately you put it in the camera without fiddling about.

Also try CrystalDiskMark 3.0.1b from http://crystalmark.info/software/CrystalDiskMark/index-e.htm

If it's a micro SD card, and you've got an Android tablet, install the Android app SD Tools for in situ testing of SD cards in your phone or tablet. Available from http://www.appbrain.com/app/sd-tools/ales.veluscek.sdtools

If 2 or 3 of these testing programs show under 10mb/s then you've definitively been dudded.

Possibly you can use a friend's equipment for a second opinion.

Genuine cards are tested at the factory before being labelled and Class 10 cards will test at the very least at 10mb/s and probably a bit more depending on the brand.

Genuine cards also have the manufacturers code and specs embedded in the card's memory. SD Tools will show you this information immediately you open the app. If it doesn't, it means you have a generic card. There are other programs running on Windows which will read the embedded info - if any.

Mislabelling SD cards as having higher write speeds is a very, very lucrative and safe scam, and can bring in an extra $5, $10, $15 or more dollars per card. Some of the larger Ebay and other dealers are selling thousands of cards per month and even if only 10% are speed fakes this represents a wonderful windfall. The scam is difficult to stop because most people don't test the speed of the cards. And if they do, and challenge the dealers, the dealers simply offer to replace the cards. Great little earner!

  • So tempted, but have be burnt by fake sandisks before that don't live up to their speeds.

    • Bought a standard 32gb micro SD from them, was legit. H2tested.

  • +1

They are very good prices! They also have the Sandisk Extreme III SDHC 8gb for $23.50

    DeWalt

  • There is also a MicroSDHC 32GB retail pack for $42.95, which I just ordered.

Personally I would trust a retail pack more than a OEM pack.

    • This is going be a stupid question I think, but what could be wrong with one in OEM packaging? I'm a little clueless with this sort of stuff…

Is it just the fact that the sellers can actually get their hands on it (and potentially replace it with a dodgy one), whereas one in retail packaging is sealed?

I just bought the 32GB OEM version from there last week. Hopefully it'll be fine though.

      • for $3, it's just to be sure. I have heard too many stories the so call OEM Sandisk from Asia end up been fake.

  • +2

389 sales on eBay with 100% feedback, so should be a decent seller.

  • Hi rep. What can you do for 16gb sdhc class 4?

    • did you even browse their website…??
      http://www.ewareshop.com.au/sdhc-card/

      • Nah couldn't at the time. Was stuck on GPRS and kept getting forced to their mobile site. Thanks for the link though. Anyway made a typo, am actually interested in the 16gb class 4 MicroSDHC. It's cheap but has been lower several times in the past few weeks.

  • bought a 32gb MicroSD on Monday afternoon. It arrived on Wednesday.

Ran a H2Test and all worked fine without errors. Very happy.

  • The Class 4 16gb microSD for $18.45 looks like a good deal too, might get one I think, since I just bought a new phone. http://www.ewareshop.com.au/sandisk-microsdhc-16gb/

    • +2

I'm after the exact same one and am sure others are too. As I mentioned above - pricing is alright, possibly cheapest at the moment I think (hence I gave it a +), but has been lower several times in the last few weeks:
      $14.95: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55918
      $16.95: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/58041

The second link also had the class 2 version of the same card (known to perform at class 4 levels) at $9.95, which for expansion on your android mobile/tablet was an absolute steal! Unfortunately those deals were missed as they sold out like hot cakes. Wonder if the rep can match these prices?

      • Only if we ask nicely ;)

  • Am I the only one that has noticed that they re claiming 30mb/s for a class 6 MICROsd card? It should be 6mb/s.

    • it is just claiming that it can "get up to 30mb/s", the 6mb/s is minimum.

    • Just realised they are claiming 30mb/s read speed. The class refers to the minimum write speed.

I wonder if anyone actually gets 30mb/s read speed from this card…

      • did you get this epiphany 8mins ago…

  • What are the postage costs? could not find them anywhere. Also why is the 2gb sd card still so pricey these days, would think it would be a few dollars by now.

    • +1

      free postage.

  • Will a MicroSDHC card work in a LG Optimus One phone? Or is it a microSD card only? Sorry for dumb question but i haven't bought a card for this phone before.

    Ordered a SDHC 16GB card for my Zi8. :-)

  • there's another post about 16gb micro sd cards for $20 @ shoppingsquare.com.au

  • tempting

  • does anyone know if the Class 4 16gb microSD for $18.45 OEM or original retail?

    • it comes in retail package

Just a note, which I have added to the top of this post:

Ewareshoup has been banned for sockpuppeting. OP (ly1122) has created at least 5 different accounts and posted comments in this thread. I am leaving this thread here as it has already floated to the front page and many might have already made the purchase.

    • Hmm now I wonder whether the product I purchased going to be legit or not? Lucky I paid with paypal!

  • Sneaky bugger this doesn't inspire confidence, giving them a miss

    • sound like ebay feedback, it's just a bit longer.

  • So has anyone bought from them before who is not sockpuppeting?

    • Yeah would be interested to know…

    • Do you think that Sandisk MicroSDHC class 4 32GB is good enough to for recording Full HD ?
Edit : im using the samsung galaxy sii

  • No 64gb:(. By the way, apparently most Android phones will happily accept 64gb micro-SD if you re-format the card.

  • +1

I ordered a 16GB card, will let you know how it goes. It should be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

  • Bought a 32Gb one just today. Will update on how this goes.

  • ordered a 16gb micro SD on 2nd Dec… still haven't received it…

  • just received email from them, posted yesterday from sydney, should get it today or tomorrow.

  • My card arrived yesterday afternoon. Testing it as i type. Thanks Ewareshop.

  • Ran a test on the class 4 16GB card, no errors. Writing speed around 4.13mb/s

  • Tested the class 4 32GB card, (non-retail) also no errors. Write speed 4.70mb/s

  • Thanks for the updates guys. Give me more confidence.

I'm still waiting on mine. It says shipping, so shouldn't be too long now.

    • 5 full working days since they emailed me to say it's shipped, and I haven't received it. Shot off an email last night. Still waiting for a reply.

      • Well, finally received it on Tuesday. Missed the postman, so had to pick it up the next day at the PO. Don't know why it takes 5 working days to come across the QLD/NSW border…

The card is great and works well. Good enough service from ewareshop. They still didn't reply to my email, not that it matters now.

  • Date Placed: 2nd Dec 2011
Still waiting for my Sandisk MicroSDHC 32GB … Not happy!

  • I ordered a retail Sandisk MicroSDHC. Ordered it on the 12th, and received it today. I emailed them before placing the order, and they did say it would take up to 7 days.

Now a WARNING - for some reason they hand write the addresses on the envelope, which I think is prone to error. They made an error and sent someone elses order to me. I have handed it back to the post office. Considering this, I would highly suggest people use Registered Post, otherwise someone else may end up getting your goodies!!

  • My order was shipped on the 4th according to their email update. I am yet to receive my order (12 working days later). Emailed them thrice no response so far. Their tracking number has no updates since its been posted. Extremely unhappy with their service or handling or their order. If guys from ewarehouse ever read these post you should be man enough to reply to your emails.

Will never ever buy from them again.

    • Ordered on the 2nd, and have yet to receive it either.
If it's shipped from any part of the world, it would be here already.
