Have been waiting for this since morning. Finally grabbed one. I believe this is the all time low price for this board

Is this worth jumping on? I'm in the early stages of building a new PC and I know the x570 tomahawk has brilliant reviews but unsure on the b550 version?

I'm not overclocking and will be gaming build

This is an awesome mid range gaming board in general. Go X570 if you need 2 PCIe 4 M.2 slots, crossfire etc. If you are like me who is just going to run PBO to casually overclock a 5900X then this would be a sweet board.

      • What if I'm planning on zero overclocking? In the past I've always used $150ish boards with no real issues. Assuming they have all the connectivity I need is there anything I'm missing out on?

        • In general if you are gaming I would still recommend you get a B550 board. $150 gets you a low to mid B450 which isn't really worth it compared to this IMO.

          • @random-guy: nah.. how about ASRock B550M-HDV, Asus PRIME B550M-A, Gigabyte B550M S2H, Gigabyte B550M GAMING, Gigabyte B550M H..all <=$150

  • This is the board you want out of all the ones on sale today.

  • This or Asus B550 TUF Gaming?

Heard the TUF was very good, seems like people like this one too.

  • looks good. ~$10 shipping. AsRock B550 Steel Legend is effectively the same price at about $250 from few other stores. I think i like the AsRock one more with more +2 USB-A at the back. Considering this board but not sure what features or why this would be a better option.. any opinions/suggestions?

    • If you check out some reviews, the Tomahawk destroys the Steel legend in thermals, but if you're not doing heavy OC the Steel Legend is fine. The lack of usb is definitely a weird omission by MSI

They sacrificed 2 rear usb A ports for the front usb C io port. Only good when your case has a front usb c port.

  • bought this last week. waiting on my ram so cant comment on the build! upgrading from z97-i intel build.

  • Does anyone knows how this compares to the gaming edge wifi? Planning for a build soon.

    • Look at the Hardware Unboxed reviews (on youtube). If I remember correctly Gaming Edge Wifi was one of the worst boards due to VRM temperatues?

      • the gaming edge seems to have better temps than the tomahawk? Plus it has wifi?

      • I must be thinking of the X570 board then.

  • I got this board last week.

Overall its a nice board but had a really annoying issue I was pulling my hair out with until I did a bit of reddit-fu

I was trying to boot into a Windows Recovery USB to repair my bootloader (I went from intel z270 mobo -> this one so had to recreate boot configuraiton data)
No matter what I did, Legacy, UEFI - the USB would just freeze at the first frame of loading.

Turns out this was an was an issue with the mobo out of the box

So I had to flash the BIOS to an older version - 7C91vA3 to get it working.
This was annoying as I only had one USB. So had to wipe the Windows CD, flash bios, take USB back and recreate W10 recovery media and then do the needed commands to restore bootloader.
