  • That's still twice the price of many other places

It comes down to preference - glass beads vs steel, ties vs zips, multiple weight selections vs limited or none, multiple cover choices vs none.

I get some are cheaper but it's not always about price.

      • Do you happen to own one from this brand?

I am looking to get a weighted blanket as the winter got me too used to using two blankets and the weight helped me sleep better. There are many sellers in Australia but the pricing isn't consistent.

Appreciate you letting me know of the differences between the blankets from different companies. How would having glass beads over steel beads benefit the feel?

We opted for this brand (hence the email discount code) but I was also considering the following:

          https://www.calmingblankets.com.au/

Personally, what did it for me was the zip covers. It's bad enough not being able to wash some blankets and then it's worse when it's not easy. Being able to change covers like a sleeping bag sold me. Launderer's prerogative.

As for the beads, steel and glass are both anti-bacterial but obviously steel can 'clang' and be heavier. But there can be less of them. Glass can escape if pockets are poorly manufactured and more are needed to achieve the same weight. Avoid nonsense options like sand, polymer and stones.

We figured we'd give them a go - we had budget to burn in a short time frame.

So far, no complaints. We tend to be a bit 'on and off' - I'm the same in winter (I have 2 wool blankets) so the 5kgs is similar but my partner hates it. If you have a partner, think about whether you need a Queen or perhaps just a single.

@Benoffie: Many thanks for the detail response! I'll definitely keep in mind to avoid any blankets which include those materials.

100% agree with the ease of washing, being able to at the very least wash the covers is essential for me.

I'll browse around more and check out other options, but it'll most likely be this brand.

            Thank you!

          • @Benoffie: Thanks for the feedback (and the Choice article you mentioned has some great, impartial info too).

  • Does it make you hot in summer?

    • +1

We opted for a bamboo cover for summer and half weight (5kg) so we can fold it or layer them etc for grown adults. And there are some nights where no amount of weight is going to stop your restlessness unfortunately. Especially in the heat!

We bought one with the bamboo cover, so we could use it in summer, but we still find it fairly hot. It's been too hot for me to use over the last two months. It's maybe the equivalent of 3+ blankets?
