  • What is the minimum credit limit?

    • last time i applied this card with $2k limit about 2 months ago

  • Last I check you can go as low as $1-$2k.

  • +3

This is Qantas Premium card, not Ultimate

    • yeah did a copy paste from other deal so mixed it up. admin has corrected it now.

  • +1

This looks like pretty good value

  • existing amex card holders eligible?

    • From T&C: This offer is only available to new American Express Card Members. Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited, in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for the bonus Qantas Points and Statement Credit offer.

    • This is always the same issue.
I have had Gold for a long time. Then got Platinum few years back, got points not a problem.
I wonder if the same will be here….

  • Any good ZERO fee cards for points?

    • Yes Westpac Platinum but you need be a Westpac customer. Easy to set one up online if you haven’t got one.

      • +1

Westpac Amex costs 50 per year now with Qantas Points

        • Well there was no mentioned that it had to be a Qantas earning cc. Just says a points earning credit card which is the Westpac Platinum rewards cc which is $0 annual fee and $0 rewards fee.

  • How do the referrals work with this? If I apply via referral link do I get access to both bonus points?

Never held an AMEX so considering signing up for this one just before the deal expires.

    • +4

You won't get the same deal via referral…only 40k points via referral link so best to apply using deal link

      • Ok, thanks!

  • +2

Finally a card not offered by Citibank
Oh and was approved instantly unlike Citibank's rejections without justification.

Now to see who actually accepts AMEX

    • +5

Link it to paypal and pay all bills using Australia Post Billpay. I pay my council rates using it as well.

AMEX acceptability has widely increased in recent years. Except Aldi :P

      • Are council rates, bpay, australian post bill pay considered eligible spend in this card for points?
Usually, these are excluded for every card I know.

        • +2

They're supposed to be ineligible, but I can confirm, at least in the past, that going credit card -> PayPal -> Australia Post Billpay -> Council seemed to sufficiently obfuscate the fact you were paying the council with your credit card.

          • +1

@Benjamin Dobell: with amex you can pay council rates and meet spend criteria. I have already done that on this card

            • +1

@jedimaster: My apologies, you're quite correct. From the terms page:

Eligible purchases do not include cash advances, interest, fees and charges for traveller’s cheques and foreign currencies.

So government payments are perfectly acceptable with this card without needing to jump through hoops.

      • Is there a surcharge for these bills going through paypal

  • Can’t find the foreign transaction fee? In the US most Amex annual fee card had no foreign transaction fees.

    Curious about this one.

The challenge is how to spend 3k given most merchants dont accept AMEX?

    • +3

      Groceries and petrol
All the major retailers will accept Amex these days. You are never going to hit 3k at your local coffee cart

    • +1

I don't understand why I would be negged. You can't buy Woolies GCs with Amex, so that leaves paying for petrol with Amex.I can't see myself spending 3k on petrol even in 10 years, much less months.

      • +1

My Amex has always worked paying for WW GCs?

        • Has it? They don't have the Amex symbol listed, only Visa and Mastercard.

          • +1

@clubhonda: Yep looks like my most recent was 31/10 but it's worked for the whole couple of years I've had the card

  • +1

Has anyone on jobkeeper been approved for this card?

    • +2

      Is this a joke question?

  • Amex Sucks, half of the places don't even accept it.

  • so a platinum edge amex card holder not eligible for this?

  • Is it just me or for everyone.

When I navigate from the website amex.com.au>All Personal Cards> Qantas Cards> Qantas Premium it only brings up 30000 bonus points. When I tried to access the same page via referral link it shows as 40000 bonus points. Can someone confirm. I tried different browser but same results. Can't find the 80000 bonus points page unless I click on the link in this deal.

      • +2

thank you for that…..am looking to score the referral points as my sister is looking to apply for this card…..maybe I should wait for a couple more days so that the deal is spread across all forms of application pages…..

        • Did you end up referring your sister where she would get 80k and you would get the 30 bonus points? Mine only shows 40k points via referral link.

  • Is American Express Westpac Altitude Black Card counted as a card product issued by American Express Australia Limited?

    • +2

      no

  • Nice one. Applied for this yesterday (Thursday) morning, was instantly approved and the card was in my mailbox tonight (Friday).

    • Did you have the option to chose your credit limit? If so what was the lowest?

      • yes , lowest was $2000

    • wow , that’s blazing fast..hope it has your name printed on it :)

    • Do you have any other credit cards?

      • No - i closed my last card about 6 months ago after getting the sign up bonus.

  • is this the cheapest annual fee credit card to get atm which offer the highest bonus QF point on sign up?

    • Westpac offer also comes close with 75k qantas points with $50 qantas rewards fee

      • Yea I just signed up for westpac 2month ago for 75k and I need another card to churn.

Can't sign up with Citibank or ANZ for another year atm. Any recommendations cheers

        • St George is the only other decent offer
$99 AF but need to spend $1500 each month for 3 months. I got my wife to sign up as running out of cards to churn :P

Else pay higher annual fee and look at NAB Qantas Signature, Qantas Premier Platinum
          https://bit.ly/2KleYvF

          • @jedimaster: saw the one your referring to 70K bonus point $95 AF not bad

  • +1

Achieved the $3,000 spend yesterday and the 80,000 are already showing in my Amex account… I guess they'll transfer into Qantas au the end of the statement period.

    • +1

Amex is the fastest bank in terms of transferring points on meeting spend criteria. Love them for this and their cashback offers.

    • Nice one! Did you get the cashback already too?

      • Yep, $200 credited - it will offset the $295 annual fee at the first statement.

        • rightio is 295 or 249?

          • @kgree92: My mistake - you're right, it's $249

            • @josh909: where did you spend the $3000, give me some ideas lol

              • @smeng: I had a heap of work expenses so it was easy for me.

  • Ok, quick question how long did it take everyone to receive their card, it's been 10 days for me and still no card (in WA btw)

    • I received my card in the mail the day after I applied (Sydney)

  • What are people spending on? Thinking that it might be difficult to meet the $3k requirement in 3 months lol….

    • Please tell me where i can spend Amex at lol

    • paying bills (use paypal linked with QFF card), online transaction, groceries… for someone with family 3k in 3 months is not even issue

      • don't have many bills to pay this quarter, but i managed to spend some on coles giftcard promotion yesterday thanks

  • Has anyone with an existing Amex card tried applying for this card and still got the bonus points?

  • Do I still have to pay $99 to join QFF?

edit: already found other ways to waive QFF signeup fee
