Tevion MD81299 Learning Remote with LCD (Refurbished) - $6.98 Shipped [Ozstock]

100

From what I read, these are pretty capable remotes (especially for the price). Have Macro, Volume Punch-thru, LCD,

• The direct access keys (punch through) enable direct access from TV mode to the functions of other units such as a VCR or DVD player. A changeover via the source keys is no longer needed
• Home Cinema Macro function (programmable key sequences)
• Built-in Joystick for easy navigation
• Pre-programmed for replacing most popular brands' remote controls
• Can be used for up to 8 different audio/video units by direct selection: TV, VCR, DVD, ASAT, DSAT, CD, AUX, CBL
• Flexible learning function with integrated EE-prom (up to 150 commands memory)
• 2-lines LCD-Display for date, clock(12/24hrs) and selected mode

I think these were sold at Aldi for $10 on clearance. But $6.98 is still a 30% saving.

Code List here, but it's dated 2006 : http://www1.medion.de/downloads/download.pl?lang=uk&filename… - but the remote can learn other codes anyway.

    BUY Logitech 300 for $15 - $20.. and you'll be happy

    • Does the Logitech 300 have a learning mode?

      • It does have learning mode plus logitech got codes for i think every device so you wouldnt use it much anyway

This is advertised as $0 + $6.98 shipping. Just keep in mind the warranty clause in T&C —

"11. If refund is determined by Ozstock to be necessary, we will NOT refund original shipping cost."

    • Good point, however do you really care for under $7? The return postage would eat up about $5 anyway

  • I think these were sold at Aldi for $10 on clearance

i don't think aldi is in the habit of selling refurbed stuff.

    • Aldi sells this brand

    • +1

No, of course Aldi doesn't sell refurbished, they only sell new.

Tevion is an Aldi brand. OzStock regularly sells the "refurbished" Aldi stock, which is all the stuff that people return under the Aldi 60-day money back guarantee. I'd assume that somebody checks it for functionality prior to resale.

It's not that hard a concept to understand LOL

At this price it's kind of a throwaway item, which is effectively what I've with the one I own…
If you've got an old TV in a spare room that rarely gets used this'll do as a rep remote, but hopefully you won't need to use the menu toggle very much. Sore thumb very quickly. Horrible piece of design. The LCD screen is also the most unreadable I've ever encountered.
Crap basic design aside, I've bought five universal remotes in the last few years, and these are a couple of the traps for the unwary:-
Even if there happens to be enough buttons to cover most of the functions you're hoping to replicate, on the el-cheapo remotes - like this one and the other slightly better Aldi one I own, unless you can find a code that works out of the booklets supplied - no mean feat in the case of the Aldi's in my experience, you can use up the tiny memory in these things on far fewer devices than you were hoping to control.
When using the learning function you can also find that some uni remotes just won't learn codes from certain brands. Sometimes some codes, sometimes none from a given remote.
Best advice early in the thread. Regularly of late under $20, Harmony 300 has good button count (more than on some of the more expensive ones), and Logitech site for programming is your best first hope for a working remote.

    • Good advice. Thanks Tas.

  • logitech harmony 300 for $19 at officeworks atm
    http://www.lasoo.com.au/portal/offer/remote-controls/logitec…

    • $10-$15 at some Aldis - left over from sale.
Or buy a better one at Logitech sale listed on OzBargain.

  • Had one of these in the past. Exact same model. Wost programmable remote I ever used. They cost $14.95 brand new when sold and is a few models old as Aldi seem to bring out a new model every time they have a programmable learning remote on sale.

Was very frustrating and difficult to programm. Ie you had to hold the remote you wanted to learn from at just the right distance and angle as well as press the button you wished to learn at the right speed, otherwise it faied to recognise the command. Ie it may have run out of memory or just refuses to learn the command nomater how often you try to program the button.

The Blue color display is also diffuclt to read when lit up nomater what contrast level it is set to and to get best viewing angle for display I had to tilt it at a 45degree angle.

Also the button lables rub of rather quickly. Especially the volume and program buttons. Chances are they probably have heaps of these returned.

Went for a Logitech remote afer that. Was the best remote I ever got. Well worth the extra money they cost and so easy to program via pc.

  • i bought the current version of this with the backlit keys for $9.95 and that was with 2 alkaline batteries, still works fine, minor downside is the limited memory as some pointed out, but the most annoying part is the d-pad, crap crap crap!! down is ok, left and right so-so, up doesn't work 90% of the time!

  • ozstock site is down…
