AGL 50/20 nbn Plan for $65/Month (When Combined w/ Gas or Electricity Plan) (Normally $80/Mth) @ AGL

132

For those of us getting AGL’s 21c FIT, this is a decent price for 50/20 broadband.

I pay my AGL gas bill with my solar credit. Once my Belong starter NBN plan expires I might start paying my NBN bill with solar credit too.

Hope it’s useful to someone.

    Pay peanuts get peanuts

Rebadged Southern Phone services - https://www.agl.com.au/about-agl/media-centre/asx-and-media-…

Sooooooo it’s a new NBN provider, how do we know it’s not good/peanuts?

I pay less for my Belong NBN plan, it’s great. Not sure your peanuts analogy works on a bargain website?

      • +3

My dad was with them after Mynetfone sold their Internet division to them and left shortly after. Rubbish service and slow speeds etc.

        • agl did the same thing after buying dingoblue and ran it into the ground. it went from the best budget isp to the worst. agl sucks.

      • +4

        It’s not a new provider. A re-badge of a crap one.

I pay $69 for 100/20 with letsbemates simply by bundling my mobile service with them

        • +6

I read "letsbemates" as something very different…

        • +1 for this same combo. Went from AussieBB to mate and it's worked out well so far.

          • @jiminyjillikers: Mate were great Until I got the email yesterday saying both my mobile and internet plans are increasing by $5 each from next month.

A lot of history behind this company.

in 2018 amaysim sold their broadband business to Southern Phone

a year later MNF Group sells their broadband customers to Southern Phone

then in late 2019 AGL acquires Southern Phone

The got a lukewarm review (hopefully unbiased) on review.org https://www.reviews.org/au/internet/southern-phone-nbn-revie… which is 3 out of 5 stars. So there's a lot of question marks about it's performance and customer satisfaction scores. Thankfully there's no setup fee and no lock in contracts either so you're free to leave if the performance is sub-par.

  • Financials are tough, so took a plunge and moved to their top plan 3 hours ago from ABB. Moving out now. Don't make my mistake. To sum up - they're pretty bad

    • -1

Well you will never get as good as ABB anywhere else.

But what was the major issue? Did you move to an equivalent plan?

      • I'd say my provider has been better then abb. Both good services.

      • +2

Off peak speed fluctuations between 40 and 80mbps. Random internet freezes and ping above 45ms. Those are first impressions. Definately not worth $20 saving over a decent provider like ABB etc

    • +4

      Go Superloop or FBB.

      ABB no longer worth it.

      • +1

        Launtel is better

FBB might have a 85Mbps download speed limit/issue.

        • That's my provider, they never miss a beat. I even got 3 days credit (which they gave when i asked about it no issues) when ringing to tell me telstra main had been damaged and is have no internet, the internet didn't even slow down lol. Never had 1 issue yet.

        • Agreed Launtel is better i'm with them for 400/50 it just works as expected

      • AussieBroadbnad?

  • The real deal might be the $80 for 100/20 plan. Anyone else know of a plan this cheap?

    • New Superloop customers can get 100/20 $74.95 for 6 months. Check for new deals after that.

    • mates $79 for 100/20

      • Cheaper by $10 by bundling your mobile service

        • Do you bundle your phone with them? Any issues on that front?

          • @serpserpserp: Nope been over 6m now they use the telstra wholesale network

      • Any issues with these guys internet speed wise?

        • no issue for me.
          50/20 - WA

  • +3

Lets Be Mate…$79 a month for 100/20 Mbps. No setup fee, no contract, 1st month money back satisfaction guarantee. I have been with them a few months now. Fantastic service, great evening speed…always around 90Mbps.

    • +1

And one can get $10 discount per month if he/she activate a mobile plan with them as well. Been with them nearly a year now.

  • Do different providers really get different speeds?

Do you need to provide your own modem?

    • +3

Each provider is responsible for purchasing capacity from nbn Co (CVC). They can cut costs by buying "just enough" which usually results in terrible speeds when everyone using it.

      • Thanks. I'm with TPG. Sometimes it's very slow (especially when we had lockdown.) How are they compared to their competitors? Could this slowdown affect everyone, even those with top plans from the best providers at absolute peak usage periods?

        • Check out ABB's page;

          https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/cvc-graphs/

They have a nice explanation on all the things. Your speed depends on a heap of things, but starting at what POI you're on can help.

Unfortunately very few providers are as transparent as ABB, so if you're slow, the best you can really do is move.. Pick someone without a contract and give them a go.

If you just want hassle free internet, IMHO go ABB. And I'm saying that whilst not using them - I'm on Mate.

    • +1

      1) Yes, absolutely. If a cheap provider skimps out on bandwidth on their servers then everyone is fighting during peak times; best known as 'congestion'.

      2) Depends on the provider; most can supply one if you don't have one already

      • Thanks. When you say they can supply one does that mean for free?

        • Sometimes it's free as in beer.

Usually it's either an upfront cost, or 'free' as part of your 2 year contract that'll cost an arm and a leg to leave like Telstra.

If you're rich, or tech savvy, then you can buy your own - but if you have little experience with the foibles of NBN setup scenarios then a preconfigured modern from your ISP is a reliable solution with easy tech support available.

    • Wait for a deal to come along on NBN that is offering a free router when you join. I did that with Activ8me. I haven't had too bad a time with them. But I downgraded to 50/20 and now I want to try a different provider to see if the issue I am having is my (free) router or their service. I go through strange periods at home when video conferencing is even audio with no video is horrid during the day. But if I switch to Telstra 4g on my phone no issues. So it isn't the VPN/VC I'm using that is the problem, it's my gear or my provider.

      • have you tried both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz from router?

        • 2.4Ghz gives some pretty poor performance, while 5Ghz gives much better speeds but can low range (even in my tiny house). 90% sure it is my router which could be better. But in saying that, when I was on the 100/40 plan I had no issues when connected.

  • More interested in how u can get 21c FIT. Can only get 16c in SA.

    38 typical peak @50
    76 typical peak @100

What a joke and costs more than superloop unless you have a bundled plan.

  • I made the switch over from Superloop as it was $65 a month (employee discount) for 100/20. In summary it was big mistake giving up my 6 month Superloop discount for this crap. Seriously every second webpage I open times out.

    • Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear it.

  • i signed up for their service without reading these comments. my Bad :-(.
Even gmail.com gives me connection time out.
Most of time times , initial page loading takes too much time.
I'm gonna switch to super loop.
