Hi all,
first post but I think the price is pretty fair for a good quality phone.
The specs for $99 brand new is pretty sweet.
3.2" screen
3G
3 MP camera…which is not too bad for people who hardly use the camera.
Bluetooth
Wi-FI

LOL, bought this one last December for around 290AU$.
Actually, it's the only thing that stopped me from having a go at them for not putting in some important information.
Isn't it obvious from the number 1 in front of his name?
Not on my phone it's not, it doesn't show.
He probably won't do it again
I see what you did there.
Is this unlocked or locked to Virgin?
If locked, how much or what is required to unlock?
Is buying this with a SIM optional or required?
These are points that usually get covered in a posting like this. Just a heads up.
How easy to unlock? Any one?
Easy. Just recharge to $80 on the sim card provided, then contact customer service and they'll give you an unlock code. I just emailed them and they always reply within 24hrs.
Great phone but camera is very disappointing, made more so because of no flash available.
Another cheaper option is buy one get one free from Harvey Norman but not this model.
Cant confirm that but all I can see from the catalog is it can be unlock after $80 is reached and recharged on the new service.
If you don't intend to go with Virgin, then it would be cheaper to buy an unlocked one from the start. There are various offers, just search.
I've got this phone, decent cheapie, pretty small screen. You can put Cyanogen mod on it, otherwise stock firware is pretty bad.
Can this be used with other optus carriers (eg live connected) without having to unlock?
Should be able to (as it's usually just a network lock) but don't quote me on that!
Nice find is it locked? Or can it be use on Voda reseller?
just do the gingerbread update from LG site and it also unlocks it ;-)
would this update apply to other brands of phones too?
Specific 2.3.3 update for this phone direct from LG site
But if you do an update from say 2.2 to 2.3 or higher via the Phone manufacturers site then you'll usually find it'll also unlock it ;-)
Thanks irlking for both lots of information
My girlfriend is in the USA at the moment, and has a US version of this phone (the LG Optimus V). She paid US$149 for it back in June 201. It seems like a pretty good phone for the price!
My wife has one of these. A little underpowered, but incredible value for this price.
I'm on this post-paid. Sturdy phone, not very fast processor but works fine. =)
I've been impressed with this phone. Small size (compared to some Androids), works well and cheap enough that I don't mind if I lose it. I decided to brave the LG 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) update today, so hopefully it continues to work okay.
