Have been looking at getting an Instant Pot. 8 litre size in particular for cooking large batches then freezing.
Noticed that the 8 litre size "international" version is currently a lot cheaper than the smaller sizes, at $136.02 delivered w/Prime.
The Duo doesn't have the automatic lid sealing, but given the price discount I can live with that.
And I'm sure I have an AU kettle cord lying around home somewhere :)

For comparison:
The 3 litre Duo is currently $147.99.
The 6 litre Duo is currently $179.71.
The 8 litre Duo Nova is currently $239.20.

  • Nice find op.

Will be gone in an hour or so I'm calling it now.

  • will this require an adapter?

    • +1

If you use the cord that it ships with, yes.

However, from my reading they take a standard IEC C13 cord, which most people know as those cords that plug into your kettle or rice maker. These are readily available with AU plugs on them.

      • +1
        • +6

Yes, I have an Instant Pot purchased in the UK. Can use any standard PC/monitor power cord, no adapters needed

        • Yes, like others, we bought our 6 litre from the UK before they were available in Australia, and just needed an Australian 'kettle cord' for it.

Just recently ordered one of these for my parents last week…it was in 'preparing order' status for some time, but is now with DHL and should be delivered this week. Shipped from Italy.

    • Should need an AU kettle cord.

    • +1

the 3l and 5.7l power cable can be separated, meaning you can replace it with an aussie plug (or go to jaycar to get one).

The 8l cable cannot be separated/disconnected, so you will need an adapter (UK plug -> Aus). but you don't have worry about the power watts

      • That's weird because the listing states:
Ships with 2 power cables, a 3 pin UK plugged one and a 2 pin EU Schuko one.

My assumption is that it can be disconnected, because it ships with 2 different cables.

        • +1

hmm you might be right there. I know the detachable cord for 3.7/5l only is definitely the case for DUO PLUS. but the design for DUO might be different.

        • Yes it can be disconnected, explained under comment section.

        • That's right my 6l IP was shipped with 2 different cables..

      • On the 8L model the power cable is non-detachable, you can see in unboxing videos.

      • My 8L Duo Nova uses an IEC plug. There could be different versions of it out there confusing things.. but at least some of them are removable. Mine was also bought off of Amazon recently during the prime day deals.

      • +2

"The 8l cable cannot be separated/disconnected, so you will need an adapter (UK plug -> Aus). ”

Stated with such assurance and seeming authority that we could be forgiven for believing you, yet you didn't actually know you just guessed. And were wrong. Better for everyone to state you're making an assumption, or not making the statement at all.

        • Well I GUESS my opinion was based on the general knowledge of 8l instant pot does not come with a detachable cord.

I also GUESS that because this is the older model so it might not have the same design (see my second comment), and I couldn't edit my first comment

I GUESS you (or anyone else) could have negged my comment if it does not help?

I GUESS you need to chill out and relax.

        • Check the table he posted above - it’s clearly states the 8l one listed here as a bargain does not come with a detachable cord

          • +1

@TightTerry: nah TightTerry. as someone has pointed out, this is the 220v version.

            https://www.instantpot.co.uk/product/instant-pot-duo-7-6-lit…

which comes with UK and EU cables so I'd have to admit that I was wrong.

so I GUESS from now on I must not to provide any "statements' unless I have a 3rd party fact check my comments, and I will do so in a non-assertive way.

      • Bought one for my parents, which just arrived. Cable comes out. It came with a Euro and UK cable…just kettle cables. <$5 at Bunnings for an Aussie one, or if you're like me you have heaps of them sitting in a box.

Seems like a really good price…. Been eyeing one off for a while. Now there's one on its way! Thanks OP.

How is this compared to Breville, or sunbeam cookers? Im looking to get one but don't know the brand!

    • Just a history, this brand is in the top 1 in amazon USA in kitchen electric category. I watched the YouTube history about who made this a long time ago. It's still the best.

    • +1

This comes with a stainless steel insert.

    • The Breville is amazing (can't recall the model number sorry). Much greater control over temperature and pressure but the killer is the automated pressure release. You can set it to automatically fast realease, slow, intermittent, without having to be there when the programme finishes. That will be my next purchase.

      • Fast Slow Pro?

It's good. I just wish it got up to pressure faster.

    • Breville is amazing. They have better pressure release and safety. They are more expensive though.

I like the Fast Slow Pro.

      • I had one of those but I couldn’t depend on the lid sealing properly. Also having the lid at the side was annoying. However, I agree the controls were very good.

    • +5

For what it's worth. These are the Choice recommended products (the first 10) in order of performance. (June 2020)

Breville The Fast Slow Cooker BPR650BSS
Breville The Fast Slow Pro BPR700BSS
      Philips HD2237 All-in-one cooker
      Sunbeam PE6100 Aviva Pressure Cooker
      Tefal Cook4Me+ SERIE EPCO9A
      Crock-Pot Express Crock XL Multi-Cooker CPE300
      Big W Contempo 5-in-1 Pressure Cooker 6-Litre MY-CS6004WF
      Instant Pot Duo Nova 5.7L
      Cuisinart CPC-610A Pressure Cooker Plus
      Crock-Pot Express Crock Multi Cooker 5.7L CPE200

For the person asking about Rice Cooking…… the Philips and the Crock-Pot-Express got the highest score of 95% for that function.

      • ++++++++ for the Breville Fast Slo Pro. Never realised how much I needed a pressure cooker until OzBargain alerted me to a super price (half the price of the current RRP) a year ago and I thought, ‘Why not?’ I now use it for everything - curries, bolognese, braises, rice, pasta… even frying eggs. You can even make yogurt with it, not that I’ve tried.
Negs: Yes, sometimes, annoyingly, the lid doesn’t seal (it tells you before it reaches the nominated pressure) so you have to reseat the rubber ring; and because I often sauté (high temp) onions and meat before pressure cooking them, the base of the inner bowl (not stainless steel) has distorted. One other thing that is a little annoying is the ‘ding’ sound that lets you know the lid is fully closed is so soft I can barely hear it.
But apart from its misgivings (the excellent controls make up for these) I now couldn’t live without it.

      • +2

Despite being further down Choice's list I'll probably still go with the Instant Pot. Stainless steel pot means I can use metal utensils and not have to worry about chipping or scratching the coating that the Brevilles and such have. Kicking my self for not getting the Duo Evo Plus for $180 a couple of months back.

        • +1

Some people would also say it's a lot healthier, given the information available about the carcinogenic properties of Teflon/non stick coatings. I'm going for stainless steel too.

          • @skysurfer: Wouldn't think the Breville gets the pot hot enough to worry about over temping the non-stick coating.

      • Surprising the Ninja Foodi Multi Cooker (with Air Fryer function) isn't on the list…I've got one at home and it is a joy to work with!

I love using it for big roasts where I use the pressure cooker function to cook it internally, and then take out of the pot, season & brush a light coat of oil on top, then use the air fryer function to crisp up the skin on the outside, beautiful!

    • I've got the Phillips, and got the stainless steel bowl later. Most things work great, main annoyances are the searing function not being hot enough (this will be purely the wattage of the device), and the lid being finicky to wash, but I haven't tried any others so it might be a common thing. What can I say, it pressure cooks great, slow cooks great, and makes yoghurt (this is my most regular use). They all probably do these things pretty well…

      • Every single one in the test has this in the negatives list "• Limited surface area for searing larger cuts of meat."

  • I bought one as wife wants a pressure cooker. And i want a Tiger brand rice cooker but can't afford one. How is this compared to tiger or cuckoo rice cookers?

    • +1

In my experience they don't compare at all, it's a different type of device

You might be able to cook rice with this but its not a rice cooker

Also cuckoos die but tigers last forever

      • My Tiger died after just one and a half year, the wire connected to lid melt, never knew there was circuit in the lid until it burned out. Bought a Breville, 1/3 of the price to Tiger, I found the rice cooked by it was better than Tiger.

        • That's sad. What exact breville model did you bought?

          • @YassPantone: Cheapest one BRC460, nothing fancy, but it cooks very nice rice.

      • …tigers as a species may very well last forever (although doubtful), but atm all tiger sub-species are endangered - as are all cuckoo sub-species, for that matter.

    • Yes you can cook rice in a pressure cooker (eg https://www.pressurecookrecipes.com/instant-pot-rice/), but to get it right for the rice and cooker you have would take a few goes as the pressure cooker stops based on a timer but the rice cooker stops when the rice is cooked. So I suspect you still want both. ;-)

If you currently don't have a rice cooker at all, and you eat more rice than slow cooked meals, then I'd get the rice cooker first. If you currently have a rice cooker that works - even if it's not a Tiger - then I'd get the pressure cooker.

I scrolled through the reviews, didn't fill me with confidence.

  • +1

    Bought one, thanks!
Really good price for the 8L.

  • +1

Great price. Got one will replace slow cooker (always bothered me how energy inefficient they are)

    • Also good for taking stews and such to a picnic; seal keeps it in the pot, insulation keeps it warm.

  • +4

At Prime day got the 6L for $97. So on Black Friday might have another sale

  • +5

If you're new to pressure cookers you may want to also order the Instant Pot Official Large Mesh Steamer Basket and 2 other seals. Just my 2 cents:

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07WSRMC8P/ref=ppx_yo_d…

    https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B06Y26FN63/ref=ppx_yo_d…

Free shipping with prime/$39 spend I believe.

    • Thanks Mate. Just curious why extra 2 seals?

      • +1

The problem with these sort of pots is the cooking smells get trapped in the seals. You can ameliorate it a little but it is always there. Although it doesn’t seem to transfer a lot of people use different seals for sweet/savoury and for strong smelling/less strong smelling. Also, eventually, the seals will fail due to wear and age.

    • I would get the glass lid, as well, it is good for yoghurt and slow cooking.

  • -3

Aka a fancy 32 cup rice cooker. :D

  • Can anyone recommend a stove pressure cooker (8-10L)

    Thanks purchased

Very tempting but I’ll wait for a deal on the Breville Fast Slow Pro

$149 with free delivery ($199 normally)- gotta use the mobile app or something to get 10 off

Im prolly going to go with the insta pot, bigger, stainless steal pot and easy to get accessories for.

      • +1

        That's the non-pro version.

        • oops;)

  • Pity I bought Philips Viva Collection All in One Multi Cooker/Pressure Cooker/Slow Cooker with Anti-Scratch ProCeramic+ Pot, 6L, 1000W, Silver, HD2237/72

Last year black Friday for like $149 but it is really good quality not sure about the instant pot

  • +1

Amazing deal price. Bought one of these from Australia for $202 thanks to earlier OzBargain deal.

  • Does anyone know how this compares to the Tefal Cook4Me?

    • +1

      i have c4m , amazing

      • be good if they used stainless steel for the inner bowl.

  • Can this fit large whole chicken for soup/stock?

  • How important is the automatic lid sealing feature?

    • Not very important if you always remember to seal your lid by turning the venting knob otherwise you'll end up with uncooked meals. I personally own a Duo Nova (automatic sealing) so I can always set and forget.

  • +1
    • Great find, thanks!

  • Assuming this would be great for something like meal prepping? im after something that i can cook a good 3 days worth of food in

    • It depends on what you are prepping and for how many people.
