12 Mixed White Wines $19.99 + Delivery ($9.90 to Sydney) @ Cheaper Buy The Dozen

110

Please note that these are past their "drink before" date, but a quick google revealed that whites should be okay for a year or two after that date (no idea how true that is).
There isn't a great deal of information on them, but I've ordered a dozen for a surprise birthday party, I'll know in a week if they're okay or terrible. But given I'm only risking $30, I thought it's worth the risk (given all my friends know that I'm a cheapskate already).

Would be great to get feedback from winos.

Without knowing the ABV% it's a bit hard to guess at what they would be like. Can't really go wrong at the price OP.

If stored in good conditions it may last that long but otherwise you might be buying vinegar especially if it run out of preservatives.

    • I was about to say this, it's a huge factor and one that people often miss or don't even do themselves.

  • Just ordered any idea what kind of wine ?

    • "White"! :D

It says from the "IGE range", but I have absolutely no idea what that means.
Happy to post a photo of my bottles once they arrive, but some/all mightn't have labels, so I'm not entirely sure it would help.

One of the reviews calls them "French like".

      • If there are any issues with the taste, just add some vodka shots to the glass.

Brother in law just got made redundant. I was wondering how to make him feel better.

    • That or poison him

I wonder how much the actual wine is worth after factoring in the cost of the bottle, cap, and label. Probably nothing.

Also wine doesn't really have a "best before" date, if stored correctly.

White wine most definitely does have a "best before" date. Particularly those with a higher acidity.

      • I'm assuming that the difference in whites and reds is that the reds have a lot more antioxidants that keep them fresh?

        • +4

No. The difference is one is red and the other white!

  • Another option is Aldi wine. $2.99 a bottle that works out a similar price.
You can get just one to try - It is actually not that bad.

Sorry about all the crap in the background.
    What did everyone else get?

    • Probably be sweet, sweet, sweet that one. If thats not your thing then make it super cold or drink with some ice cubes. And beware a sore head the next day, stay hydrated with it.

I got the 2017 version of the same thing 10.5% / 6.2 standard drinks….. It's very sweet (diabetic so don't do a lot of sugar!) - almost undrinkably sweet to be honest…Oddly semillion is normally a dry wine (or blended with others to make dessert wine) - A fairly awful wine that would likely be loved by teenagers! I just drank 1 bottle - I'd be surprised if the 10.5% alcohol is accurate - If I'd paid the suggested RRP I would have been very disappointed…ad less than $3 a bottle it's only mild dissapointment! Maybe it could be used in place of sweet vermouth to make cocktails?
