Singer Bread Maker $14.85 + Delivery @ Singer

2360

Singer Bread Maker for $14.85.
Delivery was $15 for me to 3012

A good idea is to set this to a timer so the bread bakes as you wake up to the smell of fresh bread and then smoke and then your kitchen is on fire and your house burns down. So then you don't have to go to work.
Life hacks.

Edit.

An interesting statement on the bottom There are no capsules currently available on the market to suit this bread maker.

  • OOS, then F5'ed, got one!

    Thx OP.

    • Successfully Purchased one via catch thanks @crazynic

I will be coming back for recipes - pls post when you get the machine and have some feedback ;)

I think the capsule idea is actually a really good one apart from maybe the packaging waste. Maybe there was insufficient takeup by suppliers and people didn't want to buy a machine that was marketed as a capsule machine when there was uncertainty about the capsule supply ?

  • this video shows the capsule - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fZZDBzPgIs
I reckon it's useless until you can procure at least 1 and try and reuse in worst case scenario or unless someone who is already using it here can share their process without a capsule
otherwise since none are available in the market
    time to cancel the orders?

    • +4

A capsule is nothing but a convenient packaging of all the necessary ingredients. When you pop in the capsule, the bread maker will cut open the capsule anyway.

    • +4

See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIduT_6f8W8 for a recipe/method (in the comments) - don't have the machine yet to try but makes sense.

      To wit:

      Ingredients:
      - 1 tbsp granulated sugar
      - 1 tsp salt
      - 2.5 cups all purpose flour (Robin Hood)
      - 2 tbsp nonfat dry milk (Carnation)
      - 1 1/2 tbsp unsalted butter, room temp.
      - 2 tsp active dry yeast (Fleischmann's Traditional)

      Steps:
      - Fill water reservoir (@ 35C)
      - Turn on the machine, set the browning level and start the baking cycle.
      - Let the machine dispense the water (1 min), once you start hearing the beater in the empty baking pan (at 2:09) stop the cycle, wait for beater to reposition itself, then open the machine.
      - Now add butter on top of the water, then the dry ingredients and finally the yeast.
      - Close the door and resume the baking cycle.
      - Enjoy two hours later.

      • Do you think we need to put the water in the water dispenser or just put everything in the bowl ?

        • There is an empty water sensor in the water dispenser, so the water need to be in the tank.

The easiest way to work out the proportion is measure how much water it will dispense per bake, then adjust your other ingredients based of the proportion of the water.

          • @jpl: Could probably tape foil over the water sensor to make it think it has water?

            • +3

@timpo: @timpo you can place a magnet at the sensor location. Do not install the tank, press start, the pump will run for about 40-60 seconds thinking that the water is in the tank. Not sure about long term, if this will burn the pump without water, but definitely working, just tested this morning. By doing this, you can control the amount of water in the ingredient manually.

  • Back in stock.

  • Any good recipe for your own mix? New to bread making lol. Do you just mix the ingredients then proof them to rise then put it in the maker?

    • I think if you bought the machine, you just dump all the ingredients into the maker and it should do the rest for you (mixing, kneading, proofing, baking)

      • Guess we are all gonna find out really soon

      • +1

Lol not much proofing in that 2 hour and 10min programme… :)

        • I am sure the machine would keep the temperature at around 37C, which for commercial yeast that would be enough time for proofing?

  • Anyway to have shipping fee waived ?

    • Yes only if they want to lose money by 'selling' this product. Might be cheaper for them to donate to charity.

  • +1

Thanks so much OP. Just purchased a couple - 1 for a gift and one for myself. What a great bargain!! :-)

  • Thanks OP. Hope this bread maker actually works lol

  • +1

Note that this makes small loaves, one pound / half kilo.

So half the size of a regular bread machine, but that suits me. Thanks!

  • could you make gluten free bread with this?

    • Sure, can't see why not. You could make various versions of bread like products. Might have to look up ingredients and match a cooking setting most suitable.

    • Through experimentation, probably. Usually bread machines have specific programs for gluten free. If you can find the manual online then you can check for certain

    • Here's the manual.

It does say it has a gluten free mode on page 31.

  • Thanks bought 1, gift sorted!

Cheers OP not really a bread person but might make some noice gifts dough.

Free pickup from warehouse. Pretty solid machine. Thanks OP

    • Where can we pick this from? Also, which website did u use?
      Thanks

      • +1

Warehouse in Seven Hills NSW. Both websites showing the same address.

        • I don't get an option for a pickup or free pickup? Using easybread website.

          • @punjabiz: must be based on the address you use. If you are close, you get the option of free pickup.

I can't believe Ozbargin just made me purchase a bread maker…

    • Don’t be a doughting Thomas

    • Heat rises
    • Heat is the mortal enemy of electronics (capacitors dry out, etc.)
    • Hence why the electronics in most bread machines is positioned BESIDE the cooking chamber, to reduce exposure to excessive heat
    • The electronics in this machine are directly ABOVE the rising heat
    • Hence why it actually is worth $15
    • +1

Don't air fryers (eg. Philips) and wall/underbench ovens both have the electronics above the rising heat?

      • +1

Yes, and I regularly repair them for friends and family because they tend to fail prematurely (that's if they are repairable, which many are not). Capacitors and solder joints do NOT like repeated heat cycles.

If you're wise you buy an air fryer and oven with mechanical timers and thermostats, as they last much longer than electronic ones. A squirt of grease often fixes the mechanical gubbins if they do fail for some reason. They actually benefit from greasy environments.

      • My comment was more tongue in cheek but generally holds true. House ovens are better designed with more robust components meant to withstand heat plus thick insulation that keeps more heat in the cavity. Air fryers I haven't had much to do with but one I saw recently was only 1100W, and I imagine the fan is probably divided off so hot air circulates in the lower section. They would have hopefully put some R&D into this too, to mitigate heat, and this deal is certainly worth the price. But if I were looking at two similar appliances at similar pricing, I would take the one with its electronics below or off to the side. It's a well known fact for example that electrolytic capacitors dry out with heat, so they change value, which can alter all sorts of things like timing. Some caps get so dry they blow like fuses. Manufacturers can choose to fit high-temp rated components in stuff, but it's more important to them to save $5 (or less) to compete, replace the few that die inside warranty, and sell new ones when the rest go.

  • Ordered last week.
No new emails or shipping confirmation.
    Has anyone received theirs?

      • How does it taste? I still haven't received any shipping confirmation either

        • +4

I hadn't received any shipping confirmation either, it just turned up today with StarTrack commercial (not the contractor StarTrack)

Taste was fine, regular bread Maker bread, crunchy outer, soft inner.

The recipe provided on the website certainly needs to be pimped to include sugar and salt at a minimum.

          The resulting loaf is 430g

          • @ash2000: did you go light, medium or dark?

            • +1

@toogoodtobetrue: I didn't change that setting, so I suspect it was default…. Which I think is dark.

              • @ash2000: do you get a burnt plastic sort of smell, or is it just the new machine smell??

                • @toogoodtobetrue: I didn't smell anything unusual, but it's not unusual for a newly used element to smell for the first minute or two.

                  How was the bread?

                  • @ash2000: i did it on medium. pretty average. but maybe its not the machine, but the recipe thats needs tweaking :) just followed the basic recipe given above

                    • @toogoodtobetrue: Did you use bread flour and add salt and sugar?

                      • @ash2000: I used all purpose flour.. salt and raw sugar yes. Maybe will substitute with honey next time

                        • @toogoodtobetrue: Maybe try using bread flour next time you make a loaf. It makes quite a big difference. Also try adding some oil. I added a couple of tablespoons of olive oil but I guess you could use any oil. Did the raw sugar dissolve sufficiently in your loaf?

                          • @ash2000: Good idea. I used only butter. Raw sugar worked just fine. Do you recommend any bread flour? Also, do you think a bread improver might make a difference?

                            • +1

                              @toogoodtobetrue:

Do you recommend any bread flour?

Needs to be strong bread flour.

                              Higher protein/gluten…

bread improver might make a difference

If using normal plain flour, then yes…

                            • +1

@toogoodtobetrue: Ok, butter is fine rather than oil.

I used the Defiance brand but I think any bread flour will be just fine.

Bread improver is probably a good idea. All commercial mixes use it to give a lighter texture.

  • Woohoo mine arrived today - no shipping info, the driver just showed up.
Now, I need to learn about how to actually use it.
Does anyone have any packet bread recommendations?

Magnet Hack with Your Own Ingredient

      • Inside the box there are two packs of 500g. Split 500g into two portions (250g with 2g of yeast). Split the required water into two (should be around 125ml)

      • Wait for about 2 hours
      • Enjoy.
      • Outstanding! Thank you!!!

      • How large of the resulting loaf? Does it rise to the top of the tin?

        • +2

I think 2/3 of the bowl.

To rise to the top of the tin, the mixed flour need to be 360g like the manual said.

The reason why 500g divided by two is easier to divide, plus we like eating the bread fresh and not keeping them, hence a smaller loaf.

      • Thanks so much for that!
Do you know of I could just add any premixed bread mix (about 250g) to the top section where the capsule would normally go, and then just measure 125ml of water in the water tank and just hit start?
