[VIC] Roctel (DGtek) Fiber Optic 1000/1000mbps Synchronous $229.95 Per Month - $275 Setup Fee

100

I acknowledge the government has promised to upgrade to gigabit speeds, but I am sceptical of capability when speeds throttle when my whole street tries to watch Netflix. Furthermore this is symmetrical 1000/1000 MBPS, whilst the best speeds NBN offers at a much high price is 1000/250.

In 2016 I read an article about a man who build his own fibre network company and was laying fibre in Melbourne because of the government NBN backflip. While gigabit is not a new proposition, he was selling 1GBPS it for $150 being symmetrical. He was able to roll out to a few more suburbs since then, but has opted to let resellers handle sales and work on rollout. I was dissapointed with this decision, as at the time all the plans ranged from $300 to $600 a month after that. However I checked again and was pleased to see that Roctel is now offering $229.95 per month. The next best price was $250/pm with a $800 setup fee. This is a reasonable price considering he is selling through resellers now and the Coalition has introduced a $7.10 tax on NBN comparable and frankly superior plans. Taxing NBN competing businesses so the government can claw back their investment is a step towards socialism.

Can't wait for synchronous speeds to become more available and affordable.

Shame it's only available within one suburb of Melbourne. That being said still much more expensive than Singapore, Canada, USA or New Zealand.

  • Damn they only do Elwood

  • Should be changed in title that DGTeck/Roctel only provide services in Elwood, Melbourne.

Its pricey but atleast you get 1000 Up for those in the Video/Music industry this is great value for money.

Fixed, I thought people might considering moving there for the internet in Melbourne, I even considered it and I live in Sydney.

  • Network is not only in Elwood.

There is coverage in Elwood, St Kilda, Southbank, docklands, South Melbourne, Melbourne CBD, Brighton down to Moorabbin.

Mostly along st Kilda road into south Melbourne and down Nepean highway to Moorabbin. There is a coverage map on DGtek's website.

The coverage is limited to certain streets and areas however. If you're interested they can determine if you're in one of the locations lucky enough to be connected. You have far more chance of being connected if you live in an apartment block.

    • Yeah they cover that, but to say they cover Elwood is BS. I live smack dab in middle of Elwood and that cable is 300 metres away.

      • Yes, the coverage is not localised to entire suburbs. The most accurate map is found on the DGtek website.
