So this guy (or girl idk) is saying my claim that people are not gaming at 1080p with a 3070 or 3080 is absurd
So I would like to ask, if you are to/have purchased a 3070 or 3080, what resolution would/do you game on?

Why does it matter to you what resolution people are playing on.
I just said it as a general statement cause that seems like a sensible thing to do
Both the RTX 3090, RTX 3080, and RTX 3070 are fast enough to play modern-AAA titles at 4K resolution with High/Ultra Settings, and over 60fps.
The only issue is VRAM amount. You'll need 16GB of GDDR6. Otherwise, you won't be able to load all those textures in needed for 4K, so you'll have to step down to 1440p instead. AMD delivers on this front with the 6900Xt, 6800Xt, and 6800 all having 16GB VRAM.

Who cares what other people, especially people you don't know, say?
Are you really going to show them an OzBargain poll as proof that you're correct (if you are)? lol
I thought it was common sense but the other person disagree strongly so now I'm curious
I will admit that I don't game - but logic would assume that one would simply pick the highest resolution that the game would run smoothly on, no?
There's also refresh rate to consider, but generally there's diminish return on high end gpu with low refresh rate, and the 3070 and 3080 are best bang for the buck at 1440p or 4k
@ln28909: You might actually find what you're looking for on a gaming forum. It sounds like they're popular graphics card and I'm pretty sure this wouldn't be the first argument about this topic. Find it, send them a link and tell them to go eat a dxxk. haha.
32k @ 480fps
Depends on which type of gamer you ask
Casual gamer that plays single player or non competitive games like racing games - doesn't care about FPS and will buy whatever monitor gives them more immersion like ones that have HDR / Ultrawide aspect ratio, or they want a high resolution monitor because they want the extra screen real estate for non-gaming purposes. I fall into this category — I don't game much, but I don't think I can ever stand having a regular 1080p monitor. And multi monitors clutter my desk.
E-sports gamer that plays CS:GO or Fortnite might spend big money on more 'classic' 16:9 240hz 1080p monitors for input lag reduction, and so that they have some kind of edge over their opponents.
That said, the type of person who goes out and buys a RTX 3080 at launch day can easily fall into either category. It's possible that many high end GPU buyers are buying it because they enjoy the thrill of playing at high framerates but also do not care what resolution they are playing at.
Yeah I guess more frames is more, but I'm getting 400fps at 1440p with a 2080 super on cs go, so if you're in pursuit for that 1000fps I guess that's understandable
If you game on 1080p, just save your money and buy a 1080ti.
1080 on a 3070, if using a 240hz+ monitor on 1080 a 3080 otherwise 1440p with a 3080.
As much as Nvidia wants to make 4k gaming a thing on their 3080/3090, it really isn't for competitive games. (Maybe RTS games like civ VI where fps over 60fps isn't crucial/beneficial)
Would be sensible to set the resolution to match your monitor pixels
Whatever monitor you have. People have been saying X GPU is overkill for 1080p for a decade, seriously just google the phrase with a random high end GPU for any particular year.
So this guy (or girl idk)
i think you/they have more important problem than what resolution to play some game on
If i bought a 3080 i would expect (in most cases) 4k gaming for that much money plus my main game is Battlefield so it should run that easy enough at high frame rates. For the 3070 i would probably run it at 1440p for high refresh rates and some times use it at 4k.
The bigger question is how people own 4k high refresh rate monitors?
I play BF5 with my RX5600XT @ 1440p on medium settings getting above 110fps average usually higher depending on the map. Some maps do as good as 120+fps average. Ultra setting @ 1440p you get around 85-90 FPS with this card.
So the 3070 should be doing above 140FPS ultra easy enough.
Buy a 4k monitor and run whatever resolution you want in the game. Scaling at these huge resolutions isn't a problem, not like scaling games on LCDs when resolutions were much lower and antialaising cost half your GPU power.
3070 and 3080 for 1440p definitely especially for ultrawide setups and high frames 1440p.
3080 will work for 4k but I feel it isn't the target just because the market isn't saturated enough with 4k monitors.
They are a bit overkill for 1080p. I feel like 2070S is peaking at FHD and in the future, 3050 and 3060 will cover that market.
Such a silly argument as it can really go both ways and depends on the type of games you play. I personally voted 1440p but I don't play competitively anymore. I know people that have purchased 3090s to play at 1080p for absolutely max refresh rate.
I would like to use 3000 series to play at 1080p, but I also bought the xiaomi monitor on cheap so…..
640*480
I would just tell them I banged their mom 3080 times.
..I banged their mom 3080 times
You really are a mofo, aren't you? hahaha
Personally 1440p 144hz, but there would be a ton of competitive FPS players at 1080p 240hz or 360hz who would make use of a 3070 or 3080.
