Pullman Coffee Tamper 58mm (Jarrah) $67.50 Delivered @ Campos

561
WELCOMECAMPOS10

Was helping a friend look for a coffee tamper and came across this Pullman one from the Campos site. Looks to be the Nexus model and have confirmed that it is Jarrah wood for the handle. It is $75 with free shipping and using the WELCOMECAMPOS10 for first time orders gets it a further 10% off taking it to $67.50.

The next cheapest one I could find was $129 inc shipping.

I've owned my current Pullman tamper in the early days of the company and have been very pleased with it even to this date.

      • +3

According to their website they are Australian made and the company is australian owned.

        • thanks! I just wanted to make sure I was not buying stuff cheaply made overseas

            @ets27: You won't be disappointed.
Over the years I've seen much discrepencies in coffee gear prices. I remember when I purchased my coffee machine at jet-black espresso they sold me their home branded tamper as well @$70. tbh I didn't think much at the time because what is $70 when you're already spending thousands. On reflection they probably get it in bulk really cheap ~ $30 a pop as its well made but unbranded, similar to what you can find on aliexpress.

Another example is when the OCD ONA tool first came out I was a bit got smacked at the price, $200 for a chunk of metal to distribute grinds. I searched up on aliexpress and purchased a copy for $35. It feels solid and probably functionally does the same.

This tamper created from local wood at $67 with local wage prices in mind is definitely a bargain in my eyes. I've seen wood makers charging hundreds to replace plastic handles on tampers for much more (no doubt very artisan) as well as portafilter handles and coffee machine controls.

@charzy: Yes, and quality aside I prefer to support a bit more the local economy, given the times..

              • @ets27: to be honest the home coffee industry is probable in the best shape lol

Pullman is an Australian company that has been around for almost 2 decades, operated out of Adelaide I believe.

        • I might have the first original Pullman sold coming to 2 decades now. Sent my basket in to experiment sizing with, and purchased a fitted disc for the Quaha and a matching tamper. Both the machine + tamper has been an excellent investment given I am still pulling 2 double shots daily!

    • So it's an emotional purchase, not a fact based one. We've all been there 🤣😀

  • +4

These do absolutely nothing for the taste of the coffee, which ultimately is why we drink it?
Not negging the deal, but if you absolutely must upgrade the tamper, get a stainless steel one from Amazon/eBay.
Otherwise you're paying for a showpiece. Nothing wrong with that, just don't expect your coffees to taste better.

You summed up 90% of the items I buy off Ozb…

    • +1

The grind, amount and tamper will determine the flow; which does effect flavour.

  • +1

For this price I hope it tampers the coffee automatically without you having to do anything!

    • +2

Nope, but the Puqpress does it for you for $1,300+.

Or just stick to Nespresso pods.

  • I wonder if it can be used for smashed patties like my boy chebbo

  • It's bling more than anything else, I think a distributor tool produces more consistent results.

  • I can't decide between this one and Pullman

An overpriced toy for snobs IMHO.
BTW how is it better than this one for $29?

    • -7

It’s because coffee snobs are delusional, just like audiophiles. In a blind test these muppets wouldn’t know the difference but they are utterly convinced of their golden tongues/ears.

      • Could you please elaborate why you would think so? Have there been any blind tests done?

        • Because it's not magical… it tamps coffee.

          • +1

@lunchbox99: Thanks for your pearls of wisdom. you must be an expert in coffee.

      • +1

unfair comment. I'd call myself a coffee snob and wouldn't buy this at all.

How is a Bentley better than a Hyundai? Its way more expensive and really they're identical products, right?

      • -1

Lol, you think that is an accurate comparison? These are a stick with a flat thing on the end, not some mystical magical property or performance characteristic. But hey, if you're dumb enough to spend $70 on it, knock yourself out.

        • You literally own an Apple watch, that's gonna be a paperweight in a few years. But hey, if you insist on being a clown 🤡🤡

          • -1

@frowny: LOl, I didn't buy it numbnuts. I work for Australia Post and I got gifted a watch for stitching up a deal with the banks.

  • +1

Why pay $67 when you can have your coffee tampered for only $1,639.

Forgot to add that you can get $100 coupon too, its Ozbargain after all!

    • I reckon… don't people know they difference between a Hyundai and a Bentley with their el-cheapo $67 tamper? /s

  • +7

What a big old wank this is. If you buy this, you've got too much money.

    • Nah man, you can seriously taste the difference between a jarrah tamper and something else. /s

I get people buying it just because they think it looks nice, but no need to claim magical properties.

    • Agree. This is as wank as paying for water at a restaurant

  • +3

    You guys don't understand "bargains."

This is a bargain. It is an item heavily discounted from the usual price you need to pay.

You're arguing that it's not cheap. So what? "Bargain" doesn't mean "cheap," it means "cheaper than can be found elsewhere."

You're proposing an alternative, being a cheap item sold at full price for what it is - that's not a bargain.

    • Its pretty Amusing to see people comment on things they have absolutely no idea about.

      • -2

Yes, your stick with a flat metal end is much better-er than another.

    • This is taken out of context. People aren't denying it's a "bargain", we are responding to claims made on page 1 when people asked why it's so expensive that some responses claim it's better at tamping.

It looks nice and is well made. That is reason enough to buy it. No shame in that. I just think the claims of better performance are dubious or outright fantasy.

  • I once put this in my bum

    • It would have made a very flat, uniform puck. Well worth the money.

  • +1

Imagine spending over $60 on a single utensil. Should be called OzRich.

  • For those who missed out, be glad and buy something like this at less than half the price https://www.amazon.com.au/Omgogo-Stainless-Coffee-Barista-Es… which still looks great and will work just as well.
I purchased a great machine which came with a tamper and grinder, practised for years and this makes much more difference than this overpriced item (as nice as it looks)

    Looks like a butt plug.

    Brand is Pullman.

    Name checks out.

    • Ahahhahaha

    • +1

      Shouldn't it be Pushman?

      • +1

Yeah, you Push, I'll Pull, man

  • I thought this was a butt plug.

  • wank
