thinkpads have better build quality and reliability
Currently a month into repairs with my P1 Workstation laptop - Lenovo refusing to replace or refund me…….
Are they repairing it?

@greatlamp: call centre in Malaysia - have been trouble shooting (BIOS/reimage etc etc) had the tech out twice -
They would rather waste my time then send me out a replacement machine - they're due out on friday again. so fingers crossed. ….
I had bought a warranty with the machine - but pretty piss poor from a business grade laptop…..
@Glenningvalley: I had an older P50 repaired under warranty, they express posted it from Melbourne to Sydney, repaired it, and returned back in 4 days.

I have been giving them the benefit of this being quite an unusual case but at this stage im fairly over it.
I was an awesome laptop up until this.
As an owner of the S540 13 with the Ryzen 4800U,posted in the link above, the chassis quality is actually above the Thinkpad E series and other Ideapads.The S540 is all aluminum vs plastic of the regular Ideapads. It also feels stronger than the Thinkpad E laptop I previously owned recently.
Yeah my big thing these days is the screen - wtf is this 250nits nonsense. I'd take the ideapad
I have a T470s with 250nits screen. Too bad, hardly usable outdoor.
I wonder whether a 300nits screen would be better (usable outdoor)? Or I need to find something 400nits up?
its not even the nits its the colour. 45% SRGB is pathetic. 300 nits at 100% SRGB would be fine.
I'm fairly sure I've read elsewhere that the 300 nit option is the same pathetic colour, what you want (and what ALL the US reviewers are getting) is the 400 nit low power 1080p screen WHICH LENOVO AUSTRALIA SIMPLY DOESN'T WANT TO SELL (you can't even select it as an option for most Thinkpads, even if you do a totally custom build outside of deals). Its idiotic, instead its like the worst screen in the world, 100 bucks to upgrade to 300 nits but bnasically still terrible, or…. 450 bucks (or thereabouts) for overkill 500 nit HDR which totally ruins the value prop
@greatlamp: My T470s was from Canada. Once the keyboard got issues, and the Aus team replaced it in 2 days. Quite a good service from my point of view.
However, if I buy from the US, will the Aus Custom ask to pay the GST or something alike?

Does lenovo US site let you order to an Ausrtralian address or are we talking the freight forwarding etc. required?
It's a different class (13.3" ultrabook, less ports, better screen, no HDMI) so it is hard to say one is better than the other.
From my experience, I bought a laptop from Lenovo on sale in september and it says ships in 8 weeks, no updates for a month and then I got a shipping date in April 2021, I message them if it was an error, if not I will want a refund. They refund me straight away, so they expect me to wait 9 months for the laptop to deliver, a totally waste of time and a joke.

Was that a mistake? I have never heard of a delivery time that long for any laptop brand.
I bought two dell laptops from official dell eBay, the auction page said the shipping estimate was 2 weeks so I got the deal. Heard nothing for 2 weeks, was given a tracking number finally and no more updates. Put the tracking number into the dell website and it showed my laptop was not ready and had an estimated ship date 3 months in the future. I didn't cancel the order and it really did take 3 months to get the laptops.
There is no excuse for that beyond accumulating orders for JIT production reasons. Essentially offloading the cost of holding inventory to your customers. genius move on their behalf but I would demand a refund.
@lunchbox99: I think it was a new production run as it was for a generation of Ryzen mobile CPUs that had only just hit the market, no idea why they didn't list it as a pre-sale thing though.

Question - My son is going to high school next year and the requirement is a windows 10 laptop, preferably mil-spec / tough (e.g. aluminum chassis)
The preferred supplier is lenovo and the school supplier is not bad pricing (nowhere near Ozbargain standards, but they are doing a good spec without taking the enterprise Micky)
This deal is great (and better by quite a margin in base spec), except they seem to want a touch screen and a stylus for notes. not essential, but they seem to use one note and writing notes by stylus a lot more (not just said, examples shown).
The school CIO and teachers (who presented) appear quite savvy. so this is cool.
Any recommendations.
Can anyone who owns this laptop confirm if the power button has a finger-print reader built-in? The Lenovo website says NO, and yet shows the Ryzen 5 (and the E15) variant as Yes. Doesn't make much sense…
I suspect it's an error on the website?
